Ian, reeling from the first attack, but somehow finding himself still conscious (he suspects by magic), pulls himself to a standing position while dropping his crossbow, and unsheathes his dagger and rapier. Ian swipes at the orange wolf with the dagger, then spins and attempts to plunge the rapier at the yellow wolf. (with Graxx at K4, having just swung at the yellow wolf, I should be able to add sneak attack damage to an attack on the yellow wolf, I believe.)
Dagger attack on Orange Wolf: 10
Damage to Orange Wolf (if hit): 7 piercing damage
Rapier attack on Yellow Wolf: 24
Damage to Yellow Wolf (if hit): 10 piercing damage
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Glynquinal's turn:
Glynquinal will try to finish off the (Red) wolf at H7 while standing in G6. Drawing a dagger in his off hand he will take a swipe at the wolf with his short sword. If he finishes off the wolf with that hit, he will move to J7 and put try to put a dagger into (Orange) wolf. If the wolf at H7 is still up after the short sword attack, he will remain and try it with a dagger as well.
Short sword to hit 23
Damage for short sword 6
Dagger 1 to hit 20
Damage for dagger 1 3
Damage from the short sword is slashing damage, damage from the dagger is piercing damage.

OOC: HerrDoktor, thanks for reminding me about the vicious mockery disadvantage. The roll result wasn't coming up in that post. I had to edit the post twice before the roll finally showed, and it was a failure! Woo! Is it funny that I'm pulling for you guys instead of the bad guys? I think not! :) It's almost too bad that Ian finished off Orange, so the vicious mockery didn't have a chance to help after all.
Ian plunges his dagger into the top of the (orange) wolf's head. It finally drops onto the ground with a pitiful yip, no longer breathing. With a maneuver that is almost more dance than attack, he twists, the blade of his rapier slicing through the shoulder of the (yellow) wolf, blood flying all over its (green) pack mate.
Super secret DM roll: 3
The smallest wolf seems to finally find its courage, and it runs forward close to the ground, attempting to bite Ian's calf. (Attack: 21; damage: 11) Ian being distracted by his kill and the beauty of his attack against the (yellow) wolf, does not notice the small wolf and the attack is enough to drop him once more.
The other (blue) wolf that had hung back continues to do so, snarling and growling, but not advancing.
The (green) wolf advances (K5) toward Gruxx and attempts to bite him. (Attack: 14; damage: 5) Because of the barbarian's rage, however, the attack doesn't affect him as much as it should. (7/2=3.5 rounded down to 3)
The (red) wolf retaliates against Glynquinal with a ferocious bite, despite its few broken teeth. (Attack: 12; damage: 7) The wolf is able to get in under the elf's defenses and takes a chunk out of him.
The (yellow) wolf stays put and lunges at Gruxx. (Attack: 13; damage: 5) The attacks hurts Gruxx, but like the first attack, his rage keeps him from feeling the full effects. (6/2=3)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Herr Doktor Proferssor will move to H8, then I8, to flank the red wolf. He draws his rapier and attacks it with advantage, as the wolf is distracted by Glynquinal's flashing blade.
Attack rolls (c/o advantage): 22. If the attack hits, he does: 4 points of damage. Even if he misses, though, he will provide advantage for Glynquinal if he continues to attack the red wolf.
Herr Doktor Professor then casts Healing Word (as a bonus action) on Ian.
(Hear me out on my rationale for this: Grux and Glynquinal are both hurt, and I'm down to my last healing spell. But the way the rules are designed means that we are only combat ineffective at 0 hit points. HDP, Grux, and Glynquinal can keep fighting as long as they have 1 hp left. I thinks it's better to get Ian back in the fight, especially since he acts first in the round, before the wolves. He might be able to take down another wolf or two before they can react.)
He says: "Trade a smile for that frown, everyone knows you can't keep a good elf down. Knock him down to the ground, he's up again for another round!"
Glynquinal pleased with the damage the Herr Doktor Professor did against the (Red) wolf (assuming that last hit put the wolf down) will look elsewhere for his action. If the damage he did left the (Red) wolf up then the damage in the actions in the spoiler are reserved for him.
The damage he had planned for the attack against the (Red) wolf will instead go against the (Green) by moving to J5 and going to work shoulder to shoulder with Gruxx to put them down.
Attack and damage rolls already in posts
Short sword to hit 23
Short sword to damage 5
Dagger to hit 19
Dagger damage 3
Sneak attack damage 1
Glynquinal will only move to go after the (Green) wolf IF the (Red) wolf is dropped so there will be no AoO. If (red) wolf goes down after the first attack then Glynquinal will attack, move to J5 and go after (Green) wolf with the short sword, having put a dagger into (Red) wolf.
Total damage 9
3 piercing
1 sneak attack
5 slashing
Glynquinal calls out encouragement to Gruxx, "Get 'em Gruxx. They're just tiny furballs!" as well as to Ian, "Hang in there Ian, we're coming to help."
OOC: Herr Doktor, you can move another 20 feet if you wish.
Herr Doktor does in fact finish off the (red) wolf after moving around behind it (I8). The canine slumps to the ground and does not move. As it does so, the bard looks at the prone form of Ian and says, "Trade a smile for that frown, everyone knows you can't keep a good elf down. Knock him down to the ground, he's up again for another round!"
Gruxx, you're up! Please try to ignore Glynquinal's pre-post. :) And if you didn't, know that his rolls can be transferred to another target (or targets).
Gruxx is angered at his failure. So angry in fact that Gruxx would like to rage.
"TEMPUS!", Gruxx shouts as he brings up the Glaive to attempt to arc it down upon the (Yellow) Wolf he previously missed.
Attack: 24 Slashing Damage: 15
OOC: Hello All, I had pre-posted as well as I didn't want you to have to wait on me while I traveled. However, this seems to have caused more confusion than needed as it seems like my "rage" was activated per say but I do not see where my damage was dealt to the wolf. Therefore, I believe my rage my have occurred out of turn. If this is the case, the wolf's actually hurt me much more than anticipated. Gruxx may only have 1hp if so.
I will no longer prepost to eliminate confusion and I apologize.
Seeing the red wolf fall, Herr Doktor Professor will move 20 feet in a straight line to M8, to flank the black wolf and try to draw its attack away from the prone Ian.
OOC: *sigh* No, Gruxx, it was my fault. We did so much back and forth (my choosing) over Ian's move that when I looked back, I saw you had raged (prepost) and calculated things wrong. FEAR NOT! Just as you all are learning, so am I. I have changed how I'm keeping notes on battles (now using Excel), and that will make it much easier for me to notate when someone is preposting. Please don't let my mistake hurt your developing play style. Please continue to prepost when you want to. You are correct that you now have 1 hp.
Gruxx's mighty blow severs the (yellow) wolf's head.
OOC2: Gruxx, you may move up to 30 feet if you wish. If you move away from Green, though, it will be able to make an AoO.
Glynquinal moves to Gruxx's side and performs what could almost be described as a dance maneuver, his twin blades flying through the air in two graceful arcs. Both cut deeply into the (green) wolf's hide, delicate ribbons of blood trailing behind like gossamer. The wolf whines, and then growls.
Round 3: Ian (prone), Black, Blue, Green (wounded), Herr Doktor, Gruxx, Glynquinal
Ian, once again prone, but still somehow conscious, stands once more in a display of dominance, thinking to himself I will not be bested by a pack of wolves, Ian let’s lose with his best impression of a wolf’s howl to show he will not be intimidated, and plunges his rapier at the green wolf. If the green wolf is NOT dead, Ian will also swipe at him with the dagger. If he is dead after the rapier attack, Ian will spin and jab the dagger at the black wolf. (Because of the positioning of his allies, Ian will have advantage from flanking on his attack rolls, and sneak attack damage.)
Rapier attack on Green Wolf: 23
Damage to Green Wolf (if hit): 10 piercing damage
Sneak attack damage to Green Wolf (if hit): 5
Dagger attack on Either green or black Wolf: 25
Damage to either green or black Wolf (if hit): 7 piercing damage
Sneak attack damage to Either green or black Wolf (if hit): 2
Moving will provoke AoO, so Ian will stand there, but he will call (out because he is pretty sure no one else looked in the box back when they were first loading the cart) There are healing potions in the cart. If we make it through this alive, the first round of healing is on me.
In an equally beautifully deadly maneuver to Glynquinal, Ian dispatches both the (green) and (black) wolves. As the two canines drop, the last (blue) wolf barks one last bark before turning and running into the forest.
Combat is over.
OOC: Technically, if you wanted, you could chase the last wolf. Up to you. Concerning the potions: You may drink the potions if you wish. It is first watch, so there is a chance more enemies could show up before your eight hours of rest are up. However, since this is a teaching campaign, I would advise you that you put the potions on your person (any one or three of you), but save them. After your eight hours of rest are up, you'll all be back at full health, so it would make sense to save the potions. Yes, if you have to drink them, it will take an action, but potions are generally hard to come by, so it would be a shame if you drank them now and then didn't need them. Feel free to RP the post-battle time. When you're ready to continue resting, just let me know. Gruxx, your rage subsides.
Gruxx will slowly walk over and collapse next to the cart.
"Not the best start to a night I've ever had."
Gruxx will breathe in and out trying to not focus on the pain now that the rage has subsided.
"Could you hand me one of them potions? I ain't planning on drinking it unless them wolves decide they like my taste. Just need a little rest here and I'll be alright. Don't feel like they hit anything major."
Ian will sheath his rapier and dagger, walk over to the wagon, and hand out the potions, one two Gruxx, one to Glynquenal, and one to Herr Doktor. (dont forget to add them to your character sheets) Keep these on you. You never know when you might need one.
Ian then goes over to where he dropped his shortbow, and retrieves it and (hopefully) the arrow that is sticking out of the Orange wolf's eye, and puts it back in his quiver.
Ian then walks over to Herr Doktor, and says The only reason I am still alive is you, I know it. I know I have poked fun a bit about you being a bard, but as far as I am concerned, you are welcome on any adventure I ever take, and i owe you my life. and Ian will look him hard in the eyes, grab his forearm and shake in a gentleman's accord. Ian knows that he would gladly sacrifice his life for any of these men. Going through combat lets you know who your brothers are.
Ian walks back to the fire, sits next to it, stokes it a bit, pulls out his shortbow and sticks two arrows in the ground next to him, ready for a fight. I will finish my watch. You all get some rest.
Glynquinal's face shows a very pleased expression. All of his friends are on their feet and the lone wolf left ran like a coward.
Glynquinal says to Ian, "It might have been a tough go, but you did all right. Great move finishing off those last two wolves."
To Gruxx and Herr Doktor Professor, "Damn glad to have both of you around for this one.. That might have ended...(his face twists in almost a smirk), poorly otherwise."
Glynquinal returns to F5 to get into a comfortable position with his back to the fire to return to his resting trance keeping his short sword and dagger close at hand in case more wolves decide to be curious.
Rapier attack on Yellow Wolf: 24

Glynquinal's turn:

If he finishes off the wolf with that hit, he will move to J7 and put try to put a dagger into (Orange) wolf. If the wolf at H7 is still up after the short sword attack, he will remain and try it with a dagger as well.
Short sword to hit 23
Damage for short sword 6
Dagger 1 to hit 20
Damage for dagger 1 3
Damage from the short sword is slashing damage, damage from the dagger is piercing damage.
Almost forgot about the Sneak Attack damage on the (Red) wolf.
Sneak attack damage for short sword:

OOC, I will be helping a friend tomorrow so I put a spoiler together to help keep things moving when my turn in the rotation comes up.
