So prior to reading the letter, while Carmir was staring off into the distance.. Pokim and Vruuk manage to work together to removed the large heavy chest from the top of the thick wooden shelving. The chest is huge (Think a refrigerator on its side) and has a very large and sturdy lock. Once the chest is on the floor, Cinders pulls out the ring of keys he pulled from Herman's corpse and begins trying them in the lock. After a few attempts, the kobold manages to find one that seems to fit, and with a great amount of effort for the kobold, he is able to get it to turn with a loud clank. Lifting the large wood and iron lid, you are able to see A large war hammer, a set of shimmering plate mail, a silver necklave, a set of blood stained vestments, a mace, and a few other pieces of clothing. You all quickly realize that this is the equipment is your parents. Many of these items you have grown up seeing them wear every day, and you know that there is no way they would have allowed themselves to be separated from these items willingly....
(Ma used the war hammers, No one did a very good perception / investigation on Herman's corpse so technically you might not know much more than he was wearing a really nice silver robe. I think Cinders was the only one that searched it and I believe he actually crit failed when he found the stuff that he did lol. That being said it has a pretty large slash in the front so it is pretty messed up.)
(Also, never wanted duel wielder feat more than I do now..)
Earlier with the chest:
Vruuk mutely starts to go for the symbol, but catches himself just shy of touching it; an instinctive fear and memory of great pain flashing in mind from where the dagger pierced him earlier. With a scowl, he turns to Cinder, and gestures for him to grab it if no one else beat him to the punch. The rest he sifts through mutely but in clear anguish as he takes out and set things aside.
"Ma..." He mutters as he brings the chest plate in close, thoughtlessly breathing deep any lingering scent before holding it out. Sadness, soon turns to anger while looking over to the letter. Before reading it aloud a determined looking Vruuk starts putting on whatever pieces of the set he can onto himself, discarding his own simply leathers without hesitation in the process. If he had the mind for it, he thank whatever goddess had blessed his Ma for being on the thicker side.
Whichever of the two of their parents weapons Pok'im decides to grab(if not both), Vruuk grabs the opposite before curiosity among other things lead to him reading the letter. His rage is no less consuming as before. If anything, it is reinforced upon donning what personal effects he could while leaving the rest to pick up later.

OOC: In post 1657, I rolled a 20 on investigation.
As the items are pulled from the chest, Carmir looks up and watches for a second, then goes back to staring off into space, his face full of worry.
I was thinking that the 20 was for searching the storage room, I didn't realize it was for the corpse as well. Carmir would have noticed that the silver robe was composed of what actually appeared to be many tightly knit silver scales. Many of the designs stitched into the robe were of fine threads spun from rare metals. Although the robe is badly damaged, it is still work a lot of money or could maybe be repaired. (it is a robe that offers 16ac.. or used to... before a pike slammed through the center and then was slashed open and stuff :D)
"Pok'im normally like sharp things such as 'is pike ere but he will take Ma's warhammer and use it till he can give it back to her when everybody is rescued" the large bugbear pronounces reaching into the chest to take the weapon.
Cinders looks very sad as he realises that the stuff is from Ma and Pa. He then turns to the group once the letter has been read aloud. "We need to find these guys before they do anything worse. I don't know what I will do if Ma and Pa are hurt anymore." he says sadly. After a few moments, with a fierce grin he continues, "We can stop them!" Can't we Vignar?" he says the last bit to the Mastiff with an ear scratch.
So as you look inside the cracked door, you can see a chained up small figure laying in the corner of the room. Although you cannot make out the face of the creature immediately, you can tell that it is a young Kenku that is badly hurt. There is blood on the ground and splattered on the walls and the black beak of the small bird-like figure is cracked and tied shut. Her hands and feet are chained together before connecting to the stone floor. The room is dark other than a single lantern hanging from the ceiling and the only furniture is a dirty blood soaked table, a set of small wooden chairs and a bucket of filthy water.
Vruuk frowns, and after Carmir's gasp of "Holy-!", he cannot help but stepped what he hoped was far enough away from the stairs to say something terse. Then, the smell hits him now thanks to the door being fully open. Growling bestially, he turns back to the stairs leading upward...
Wisdom Save: 4.
???: 3.
RIghtenous is once more subsumed by a murderous look as Vruuk turns away for a proper look inside the room, sees the banged up Kenku, then with an angry huff starts making his way to the stairs. What brief moment of hesitation there was at direction is swiftly resolved by an impulsive turn towards the stairs leading downward. Using what predatory grace his new armor still allowed, he carefully starts picking his way down the staircase unless stopped by the others.
(@Wrecks: A belated Ohhhh~ Other Magic stuff! Totes got to take a short rest soon to get people attuned(if they want) to those last 2 items. Not that Vruuk's got a stake on those))
So Carmir enters the room and makes his way to the kenku. The kenku is pretty young and he doesn't immediately recognize her, not that he would have an easy time anyway considering the thick blood caked in her feathers. He an quickly see that she is in pretty rough shape. Her breathing is very shallow and you quickly realize that the noises you were hearing were her choking on blood with no way to open her mouth with her busted beak tied shut. You are able begin trying to bandage some of the still bleeding wounds and pour clean water on them from your waterskin but she is going to need more help as her eyes begin to roll back in her head...
****Alright, so it is going to take a few medicine checks to stabilize her as well as some strength checks to free her from her chains unless you have some other way to undo them / break / cut / unlock them. Her mouth is tied tightly with rope that also needs to be untied, cut, or otherwise removed. If you all do nothing she will be dead within the next minute from choking on blood and within the next few minutes from other injuries****
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Pok'im moves into the room and moves up to the chains holding the Kenku. He turns to Carmir and says "Pok'im break chains, you look after little bird!"as he attempts to break the chains (Strength 24)

(OOC: remind me did Ma or Pa use the Warhammer)
DM - Stopping a god in his tracks
(@Wrecks: That also reminds me, what type of armor was Herman using, and was it salvageable?)
(Also, can our parents armor be adjusted to fit a bugbears frame?)
(@Grant: Pretty sure it was Ma with the Warhammer given she was a paladin, though could be wrong.)

Pokim struggles to break the changes but they remain intact, They are somewhat slick with blood and the damp nature of this room.
