"Where are the masters of the house, the Dursts...?" Krolbrik thundered, his imposing orange figure suddenly radiating anger. "Step forward, if you cowards can hear me. My god is a god of mercy, but foremost a god of justice and law. What you two have done to your own children is abominable. You will be made to answer in judgement."
While this is going on, an aura of golden energy began to emanate out from the hobgoblin's form as he concentrated, trying to grasp how much of the unholy were around him and his comrades.
(Krolbrik uses Divine Sense to try and detect just how many evil hearts surround his comrades.)
Aka and Bala, the two of you try to puzzle out exactly what the demands of the spirits are but no avail.
"One must die, one must die,"
Krolbrik, you open up your senses and are flooded by the sheer evil of this place. The entire room, eminating from the altar, is filled with the foul stench of a dessicrated place. Strangely enough the thirteen apparitions don't register as undead. They continue,
Eh... is this a riddle?Aka takes out his bow and attempts to shoot one of the spirits, thinking it may be a sadistic riddle. If this doesn’t work, I’m stumped.
Aka, your arrow flies through one of the robed figures, phasing straight through it and impacting with the wall. It appears completely unaffected. They continue their chant without missing a beat,
"Are they...talking about the baby?" Bala recalls Aka yelling about a baby. "Everybody who lived in this house, from what I've seen, is dead, but one. I think they're talking about the monster."
Bearicina will revert to her normal human form slowly and then begin to chant as she starts to ritual cast Detect Magic, hoping to find what may need causing the strange apparitions.
Ericina, opening your eyes after casting the detect magic, you don't seem to find the source of the apparitions. Instead, you see that the pile of refuse on the far wall seems to be surrounded by a faint aura of transmutation magic.
"There is something strange about that pile over there... It has magic all around, the type used to change one thing to something else...." Ericina says as she points to the strange pile.
Maybe... maybe we have to kill something? Is there any place to kill something? Let alone a creature to kill? Aka seems disturbed by the chants, and desperatley looks around for a bug or something (like a rat) to kill, and something to kill it on.
investigation (to find bug/creature/kill on thing): 22
Aka, you glance about the room, if anything stands out as the place to kill something it's the bloodstained altar on the stone dais in the center. You hone your senses and notice the soft pitter-patter of a rat swimming along the edge of the flood room. You chase after it and try to grab it. 13 (Grapple check, contest with Athletics)
Aka, you snatch the rat up by it's tail, in your other hand you wield your dagger and plunge it into the defenseless creature. It's blood runs over your hand and drips onto the altar.
As the creature dies, Aka, you swear you hear a small voice whisper to you, "Murderer..."
But your crazy plan seems to work. The apparitions fade into dark mist and the room returns to normal. The chanting is gone and the overwhelming sense of malice that you've felt since entering the house disappears like a weight being lifted.

I thought the baby was dead. But you might be onto something with the monster. Aka puts away his bow and re draws his daggers. Is that what you want?

No response from the figures but, "One must die, one must die..."
Krolbrik, make a religion check.

Krolbrik, you haven't really come across anything like this before. You're at a loss for what the spirits require.

"Don't hurt the rat! I want to name him Sir Cuddleston." Ericina said suddenly as she saw Aka go after the rat.

Aka slumps down, looking relieve. I... I did not like that. But they’re gone. They’re gone now.
