Chives is shocked by this development. "Amazing! Educated rodents! Perhaps we can keep some of them as pets?"

Horatio Hirschfeld - Squire imbued with fae powers, in the Coliseum of Conquest (W2/L1) DM for Reavers of Harkenwold, and sometimes The Fighting Grounds of the Coliseum
The Tailor Wife says, "Well... A lot of people went to the Rich dude's house and took shelter there. Maybe we should go there next?" The doctor says, "I think basements and cellars are the last place you want to hide in when you have a rat uprising on your hands."
"Agreed. I say we get going to the rich dude's house, but maybe we could sit and relax for a moment? It's been a while since I've been able to catch my breath and I feel like we're fairly safe here." William looks outside to double check the poisoned cheese situation.
Chives, looking quite scratched up, says "HEy doc, do you think you could do your docto-Healy thing? I don't feel so good right now."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eric the doc gives William a look and says, "You'll be fine" DM: The Doc can use a nerfed version of the Healer feat with his healing kit so he can't heal you again until you spend a Long Rest. He can heal you for 1d4 + 4 HP (Because he might be a healer but he's still a Level 0 nobody)
Eric walks over to chives and looks at her legs. "Yikes! These look like they've been wadding through a puddle of razor blades. He takes his healer kit out and tries to patch Chives up to the best of his abilities. 7 Heal
The Doc then walks over to Joben and patches him up as well. Heal: 5
With that being done, you guys head off to the direction of the Rich Dude's house. Everyone (PCs only) roll Stealth.

With the 3 villagers most experienced with the rat problem (PCs) leading the party, they villagers manage to avoid detection from the Rat Marines and end up at the gates of the Rich dude's house. The main wrought iron gate is locked. It looks like this part was locked to keep Giant Rats out but smaller rats can pass through easily. The garden walls are 10ft tall and the gate is locked and there may be rats on the other side. What do you do?

"I'd hate to see what would happen if one of us hops the gate only to be swarmed by rats. I think one of the thing keeping us safe from the Elite Rat Marines right now is numbers." William looks at the house to see if there are signs of movement at any windows/shutters.

As Joben looks out the window, he sees rats (not giant rants) in rat armor lying dead near the cheese.
They are as big as your average every day rat: Tiny.

Everyone nods with Joben in agreement. The Messenger girl says, "The post office doesn't provide good protection against rats so It's empty."

Eric the Doctor, Allie the Messenger, Tailors Mark and Cathy joined the party.
Alright so what do you guys do now?

OOC: lol, loving the talking rats!
The poisoned cheese is holding up. It's smells cheesy, it probably tastes cheesy and it is definitely poisoned.
Didn't you guys spend your short rest hit die or am I blanking out on something?
OOC: I would get my spell slot back and my hex blade curse. 😬
Fair enough. The doc can also heal people that want it. Looking at you Chives.
OOC: I'm down 1hp, if the doc can heal that, I'd appreciate it.

Is it a key lock or a padlock/chain?
Padlock/chain.
Eric says, "It would probably be stupid and pointless to leave a ladder lying around here since the point of the lock is to keep people out."
