Jack will grab some food and an ale and also looking around non-chalantly to get a lay of the land as well as the people. “Wooooo, glad to get out of that downpour. Much nicer in here. What do you think about all this Duncan?”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kai steps into the Inn and surveys the place as water drips from his cloak. Hanging up the cloak on a hook by the door, he looks for a table large enough for the group, and slowly takes in the patrons, staff and environs.
The Dancing Horse is far from the most elaborate establishment that you have ever seen, the wooden floor is roughly laid and the ceiling in the taproom hangs low enough that you could touch it with a good jump, and a light smoke is starting to gather as many seem to have taken refuge inside, and a number of the patrons have their pipes out. The taproom is reasonably large though, and there are plenty of places to sit. The tables are long, with benches either side, and run up and down the room. there are smaller stalls on the one wall that look to be smaller private booths that would fit 3-4 people in them. On the opposite wall there is a fire with a cauldron and a pleasant aroma emanating from within. There appear to be no serving staff in the inn, but a couple are standing behind the bar chatting with some of the locals.
Elber, the stables are attended by a young lad who offers to look after the horses for you. After leaving them with him - but keeping a surreptitious eye on him as they are stalled, you notice upon entry that the stables are comparatively better kept than the interior of the inn.
Kai, you too don't see anything out of place in the tavern. A number of the patrons are freshly wet, similar to yourselves, whilst most seem to have missed the storm, or dried off from it sufficiently. As your group enter you notice a few glances in your direction, not hostile, but the sort of glances that suggest strangers are none too common.
Duncan, you notice nothing of note beyond the general goings-on in a tavern. As you approach the bar to order your refreshment, you stub your boot on a rut in the flooring and bump into the back of an overly rotund fellow. He turns around, holding his tankard of ale away from his shirt "Oi, watch yerself! Look after what ya done!" He points to the damp stain on the front of his jerkin, "Now I gotta wash this out so my Sally don't know I been in here, and you need to get me a refill." He points at your chest with a stubby finger of his free hand.
Kai smiles, a more typical village Inn it seems, with all the usual small minds. Kai lays a hand on the irritated patron. "Certainly, sir. In fact you can blame us to your Sally. After all, when strangers you have shown the way to the tavern out of the rain offer a drink, it would have been rude of you to decline. And, I am sure, Sally will want to be able to tell everyone how much her husband learned about the strangers in town."
Looking up at the large fellow with the beer on his shirt, Duncan will say "Ah! Sorry friend! Must still have some rain in my eyes. Been a long, cold, and wet trip." to the bartender "another one for this fellow please." and back to the man at the bar "We're just in from Thithladroth. Looking for warmth and then work. I'm Duncan, just tell Sally some drunk traveler ran into you on the street eh?"
"I ain't yer friend. Too many strangers passing through recently, not sure how much I'd care to know about yer." The man puffs himself up, and looks Duncan up and down, clearly sizing him up.
"Rufus, shut yer pie hole and accept these folk's kindness or I'll be tellin' Sally exactly how often you're in here!"The lady you saw behind the bar is now making her way over towards you with a fresh mug of ale in her grip. She thrusts it into the belligerent Rufus' belly, spilling a little more onto his jerkin and forcing him to take it by his other hand. "Don't mind him, the oaf was born with less manners than a grumpy mule!" she says turning to face Duncan and Kai, and loud enough that anyone nearby would still hear her, and a few of the men next to Rufus chuckle at the comment.
Kai, you catch a short but unpleasant glare from Rufus towards Duncan before the woman asks, "What'll you be havin' luvs? We have beer, wine, stew is about ready, and bread. It's not as fancy as you'll be used to from such a fine place as Thithladroth, but it's all local produce."
Kai bows to the tavernkeeper, "We thank you for your intervention. Stew and bread definitely for us all. And a blessing on this house, for a cup of hot tea."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
She smiles warmly at you, "I'll bring your stew over, Jayden will pour your beers at the bar, settle the bill with him there, and I'll see if I can rustle up some nettle tea for you."
She steps between the other patrons directly towards the stew pot and watching her go is like watching the seas part, as the folk seem to clear her path almost unconsciously. You still see a few of the folks in the room looking at you with a hint of suspicion, but as interested as they may be in you, they are equally interested in their respective conversations and finding the bottom of their cups.
Returning to you carrying a tray with 5 bowls of stew on, the woman sets them down. "Nice to see new faces round here, we get a few in off the road every now and again, but there been a few more than usual of late." Eyeing the group, her eyes settle onto Landrae's instruments and her face lights up, quite excitedly she blurts out, "I don't suppose you'd grace us with a tune lass? It's been far too long since we've had a minstrel here, and with the weather out, it'd right lift the damp mood in here."
As is her habit, Landrae negotiates her services fairly but pushes for a little more than the lady of the house wanted to cede to her. Landrae wanders off towards the stew pot, briskly clears the patrons from their warm seats, takes up her pipes and begins to perform (8). Though not up to her usual standards, the performance suits the crowd well enough and the mood lightens in the taproom, as Landrae's music fills the background.
((Your lunchtime food & drinks, and lodgings tonight, will cost the party nothing should you wish to stay here.))
"Ah, lovely."She says appreciatively once Landrae starts to play. "So, what brings each of you folks into our little Conwe?"
Drex opens the door to the Dancing Horse trying to not let any of the rain in. Oh look there is Rufus, looks like he is still a little mad from last time he seen us. Can't really blame him, he did fall in to themop bucket some how...
Drex pulls his cloak off hanging it out of the way as to not get any of the other clothing items wet, if they was not already that is. He turns to warm up by the fire. As he is standing there he shakes his red curly red hair out, trying to get what water is in there. With a soft smile he nods at anyone that might have been around him he got wet. Drex nods as if talking to someone "I need a drink too, maybe some stew if any is left." Looking up as if watching somthing Drex smiles then heads to find an empty chair.
As he sits down at his table he takes a little bag, pulling a few things out he starts to count some bandages and what looks to be some herbs and salves of some sort " Yes the Apothecary had what i needed. Our medical bag is all stocked up. Don't worry." Putting everything up nice and neat in his bag, he then places to his side. He wipes his hands off on his leather tunic and as he does little wisp of smoke seem to raise off of it. Drex then looks around, his bright green eyes seeming to catch a little light and sparkle, as if he might be looking for someone. Being a little over 6 foot tall its easy for him to find most people in a room even if he is setting down. Nodding a couple times to himself "Fine fine, I will be up after I talk Artemis and let them know I am fully stocked up thanks to the order that was put in." Spotting Jayden as he is looking around he smiles and waves.
Duncan sits down "A round would be nice as well ma'am."and when it comes will take a sip and say "We heard tale of a haunted mansion... though I don't care much for ghosts myself. Just looking to see if there is any work that our type" gesturing towards his armor and glaive "might be needed for mostly."
The door is flung open, rain pouring in as an annoyed human in robes walks in with a snowy owl on his shoulder. The owl flies over and perches on a chair next to Drex, flying close to Rufus on the way past. Artemis storms over to the table and sits down with rain still pouring in. Seeing the looks from other patrons he looks back to the door, waves his hand and a spectral hand closes the door. "Marsha, please bring some stew, and some drink. Drunk wizards are a hazard so not too strong." He doesn't seem to realise that she is in the middle of a conversation already.
Elber gives his companions a concerned look and props his bundle of swords against the table before walking over to the strange pair, his hands making fists around his belt but at least not holding any weapons. "With sorcery so brazenly displayed, this town be either very safe or very troubled. If you forgive me for being blunt, which one be it?" His question is loud enough to be heard in the room but directed at the soggy sorcerers.
"You and your fellow townsfolk have nothing to fear from us. I have come seeking knowledge and he (pointing at Drex) is here for his own reasons. Once we have what we came for we will leave." He turns away and mutters under his breath "if I ever get access to that castle"
Drex, Jayden gives you a shallow nod in reply to your wave. He moves to the taps, and pours you a mug of ale, leaving it on the bar for you.
Duncan, Marsha replies "Jayden will have your drinks poured at the bar luv, our girl, Maisie, doesn't come in to wait on the tables until the evening." She smiles a little apologetically at you, before continuing with your questions. Her voice grows hushed, almost conspiratorially, and her eyes light up as she speaks "Haunted...? You mean the castle? There been many a tale floating around that place these years past. A blight on the land, a curse against trade, unrest for the dead... Everyone round 'ere will give you a different story. Guess it's up to you who you be listening to but one of the old guards, Orvel, still lives over by the dock, an Rufus used to be one of the lads who'd ferry wares up t' the castle from the dock when them boxes were showing up regular like. One thing all will confirm true though, is that no-one has been in or out of the castle for many a tenday now, maybe half a year or more. That handsome chap," she looks over and then points to Drex shaking out his hair, then carries on, "an his friend have been tryin' their luck to get in."
Almost on queue, the man and his owl blow into the room like the storm outside. At his grumpy request, Marsha turns her nose up a little before shouting back at his across the room, "Yer sitting not ten paces from the stew pot, help yourself luv, an you know where the bar is... Jayden will have a light wine poured by the time you've walked the weather over there. Your owl better not leave scratch marks on my benches this time, or else he can go find a perch in the stables with the other animals!"
As Elber adds his question, the folk in the tavern seem to find interest elsewhere, or try to return to their conversations. Rufus, however, steps forward and replies "Them two ain't from these parts. Just like you, they don't belong here. An their hocus pocus is just as welcome!"
"Sorry Marsha" Artemis clicks his finger and Ghost vanishes. In reply to Elber "There is a collection of arcane knowledge in the castle. I wish to read it. And also, any other books I am also interested in. However we have been here 2 days and been turned away both times, if you seek access to the castle, then I wish you luck. If you feel like you have a chance then I would love to join you" Artemis then walks over to get some stew and gets his wine, appreciating the music from Landrae on the way to the bar
