After listening to Liet's news, Nalla sits quietly, contemplating. Her heart pumps blood to her ears as she takes deep, nervous breaths. Rhukis told her to start acting like a master and this will be the first test: speaking her opinion, even just a little bit.
Nalla clears he throat and stands tall, awkwardly aware of just how much taller she is than the rest of her group. The words stumble from her mouth as she tries to figure out what she's trying to say even though she's already started speaking. "The Baron's in charge. We have another way to get to the cave so we can leave the guys in jail. The Baron will decide what happens to them. That's not our decision."
((McFuddy is talking big as if he might torture maim or kill..... but he has no desire for that. Thats a thing people do.... in nature the biggest toughest creature often get what he wants bc others back down.... really he just wants to find a way to peacefully get reliable info.... so this is all just pufferery and a way to figure out solutions))
((Makes sense. Though Liet now thinks he's a torture happy ranger after what he said earlier~))
"Agreed. Following the directions I have, and some good forest tracking, should hopefully get us there." Liet responds. "Though we're now down to a party of three... Perhaps the Baron knows some who might want to join and help us on our task."
"McFuddy. Do you think if we get to the mountains you can find the cave? We know it's near direct NW of here... It may be easier to not bother the Baron and to head out soon. I'm ready when you two are." Leto will say as they share an evening meal, hoping to leave the following morning
((Since Rhukis will not be joining us, can Nalla take his bag and distribute most of the items between the remaining party members? He grabbed a lot of stuff and it would be a waste not to bring it.))
((Since Rhukis will not be joining us, can Nalla take his bag and distribute most of the items between the remaining party members? He grabbed a lot of stuff and it would be a waste not to bring it.))
(( Certainly. Post it all in the OOC chat and we can divvy it up. ))
"Well, i can certainly give it my best. im not sure how often they took the path..... or how long its been since someone has... but i can always check. Plus if they do as good at hiding their tracks as they did when they were fleeing.... well there will be tracks for months! Plus there might be more men in this group that were simply not there while we were... possibly out scamming another crew of travelers"
Nodding, Liet will add to McFuddy "Though I'm not quite as at home in the forest as you, my eyes are not dull. I will help when I can. Shall we all be off in the morning?"
Then jumping to the next morning we can head out. Following the directions towards the mountains to start. McFuddy will be our primarily leader through the woods, though Liet will help as much as possible while trekking ^^ Liet has also taken guidance at level two, so will be using that to help out when possible.
The brisk spring morning air mingled with the sweet scent of pine hits your nose as you walk outside the threshold of Caer Blaine. Heading directly northwest proves to be difficult, as there is no path to lead you toward your destination. McFuddy is easily able to keep you heading the right direction, though you haven't caught sight of any trails yet. The three of you make remarkable time despite the lack of trail, and as dusk approaches you find yourselves easily 15 to 20 miles in secluded wilderness with no sign of civilization around.
McFuddy notices throughout the walk that there are fewer animals about compared to normal, especially the further you venture.
You come across a small stream, with a wide flat sandy bank on the side. It seems to be a perfect location to camp for the night.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Liet will lay out the furs he picked up from the bandits for his sleeping area, and will say "I will take the first watch. Though I don't expect anything this far out, these woods are strange." PERCEPTION 18
The moon above flits through the thick branches of the forest around you. The quiet gurgling of the stream is all you hear. As Liet's shift begins to come to an uneventful close he notices a strange violet glow in the distance between the trees, barely there. Liet waits a moment and sees the glow move, every so slightly, but just so.
((Question, DM. How do you rule "Resting". I believe RAW says that it includes light activities such as reading, sitting, and eating. If you rule it this way, would Nalla also have seen the purple glow? Also, how long have we been resting before Liet sees the glow?))

((I believe you still need 6 hours of sleep in that 8 hours for a rest. And 'keeping watch' is probably not as light of an activity as reading))
@pro - There had been people harassing travelers on the road. Our party was hired to find out why. Following the road for a while we found a camp with some injured men in it who tried to take Liet (me, halfling druid) hostage until running away. We followed them to their cabin, and thanks to having a holy cleric (he dropped) were able to talk them down and learn that they worked for a new 'demon' who was causing problems in this area. Back in town, our patron, The Baron (crazy powerful tiefling warlock), promised us more payment if we tracked down this 'demon' and deal with them. Searching town, we got some info on where they could be found, and we are now headed towards them to see what's up.
((I imagine you're all down for the night, which will probably well over 8 hours. That said, there is an opportunity that she [Nalla] could have been awake as time wasn't too much of a constraint. Here's what we'll do @Nalla. Roll 1d4, if you get 3 or 4 you were awake. Then roll perception to see if you see the glow.))
((Everyone got a short rest, not that you needed it.))
Liet would certainly have told about the glow in the morning. Though it wasn't threatening enough to wake the rest for during his watch. He certainly kept an eye on it of course.
((Fair enough. If Nalla is awake, then she knows as well.))
As you ((and potentially Nalla)) watch the glow, you can can see it changes its direction and make its way VERY slowly toward your camp. It creeps along the ground and is about knee high. It is still quite a ways away, several hundred feet, so you can't quite make out anything specific other than the faint, eerie glow. You hear nothing, not crickets, not bats, only the stream. As you watch, minutes pass and whatever is in the distance gradually maneuvers its way toward your camp.
Seeing it approach, when it's within maybe 100 or so feet, Liet will toss a flame into their fire pit ((I'm assuming we put it out for sleeping to keep a low profile)), tap our ranger (and maybe barbarian) on the shoulders saying "something approaches!" while passing then by so he is on the outside of the camp, awakened friends between him and the glow ((i never claimed to be brave :P )), another flame in his hand ready looking over his shield.

((per our OOC chat, let's just go ahead and push forward, I can adapt. Unless you REALLY want to ask the baron))
((also, excellent RP for Nalla. I'm excited to see her come out of her shell, as well learn more about that backstory!))
