Quetzalcoatl eyes the dwarf, clearly a veteran of many battles, curiously. "Well met, friend dwarf. What occurrence has warranted these grim words?" She asks, calling for a round of beer.
Nair looks over to the small dwarf/human gathering. Eyeing the characters' weaponry and battle scars, specifically one of the dwarf's marks, Nair identifies these people as those who are, potentially, in the same trade as him. He pushes himself off the counter and heads over to the table. Nair gives a friendly wave of the hand, "Greetings."
((If I was able to hear the undead part of the conversation)) Nair looks at the battle-worn dwarf, "I could not help but overhear your talk about undead. I was just hoping to hear more about this." He asks.
"Captain Stonefist, of the Stalwart." After placing his axe back in it's place on his belt, and shield on his back reaches to shake hands with the other dwarf. "Balrun to those that live long enough to be called friend, And in that sense you would be right friend, but it's far greater than a day, weeks at this point. The undead are never ending, but we've managed to hold them at bay. As for the dragon and it's hoard, I've heard many a rumor mentioned among the townsfolk, but me personally, I've never witnessed it." Pulling up a chair he asks, "And what should I call you? As i've caught a bit of the conversation, but your names have eluded me."
"Thakdrith- erm, Blackbrewer...Well met." Gesturing to Nair as well as Bulran. He seems a bit concerned, hard to imagine the undead numbers are this much worse than rumors led to believe.
The conversation between the human and the dwarf could be a potential lead to finding her missing sister, considering that she is an adventurer and it is possible that she has taken up the job of ridding of the undead. Maromin had already asked around the city about her whereabouts with no luck. This could be her chance to finally track her down. She approaches the group. "Pardon me. Have any of you met an aasimar woman who looks just like me?"
Nair leans in a bit as he listens to Balran tell his experiences. Nair brings over a chair and sits at the table. "The name's Nair Do'Well, pleased to me you all." Nair says to everyone. "Never ending, you say? Is there any sort of move to try and track down the source of these undead hoards?"
Nair looks over to the aasimar woman. He stares at her for a few moments before speaking, "No, I can't say that I have."
To Maromin, "Ive only just arrived in town, can't say I've seen much yet." Beckon for her to join us, "What's your take on all this undead business? It may be related to their disappearance. Hopefully not for the worse." Thakdrith nods reassuringly.
Looking in Nair's direction, "We've been doing the best we can between holding off the hordes, and reinforcing the defenses that keep them at bay. We've lost a great many to the undead..." *Stares off blankly for a moment, reflecting on lost comrades, clearing his thought before continuing* "It's possible with a special team that could make it through the force of walking dead, that the cause of the uprising could be found and eliminated. Most of the company is busy maintaining the defenses on the edge of the forests, and unable to root out the cause."
"As for you..." glancing in the direction of the Aasimar "I can't say that I have, as I've been in the field for a while, tonight is actually my first night off post in over a week. I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you." Giving an apologetic smile.
Rallying himself, injustice at needless innocent lives lost, noble, selfless sacrifices of Balrun's comrades, "With the city defenses stretched thin as it is somebody really should DO something, and that somebody is me. Now I'd hate to presume help from any of you, getting to the bottom of such a dire task, but I'm also rather remiss to go alone..I think destiny may have brought us all to this table for a reason."
"Thakdrith, was it? Maromin Zomna." She bows her head. "I believe it's as the captain said. It will take a strong team to push through the undead hordes. And I'm willing to form that team with all of you."
Nair nods at Maromin. "I am willing to join that team as well. Finding the source of this all will provide ample opportunities for me to study." He says, mostly to himself.
"Excellent! Anyone else i can count on?" Pauses briefly, "Balrun, you're part of the cities' defenses, will you stand with them, or help us root out the source of this ungodly deluge? Eyes Coatl, "I know this doesn't include your original motive, Thoughts?"
As your speaking, a man walks into the Swinging Sword. He looks like a Northener by his clothing, holding a great battleaxe at his side and a rune covered shield on his back. This man walks swiftly over to the scholar in the corner of the room.
"Still writing Volo?" He says gruffly, "Thought you'd be here. I've been tracking the Giants as you asked. They went South, into the jungle. Never heard of jungle giants in my entire life, but you'd know more."
The two then begin to talk quietly together, and occasionally glance in your direction.
Quetzalcoatl draws an ornate dagger from her boot and inspects it. "It would be an idle Sun Oracle who let such a threat remain unchallenged." She looks up and offers a half-smile. "Consider us a party."
Turning, she regards the overweight man with renewed interest. "Even in the jungles of Chult the name of Volo is known. What business do you think he has here?"
Nair looks over his shoulder at the Northerner and overweight man. Turning back to look at Quetzalcoatl and says, "They seem to be talking about Giants..." He leans in, speaking quietly, "And based on their looks over, about us too."
The man, Volo, stands up and walks over to you all while the Northerner looks on.
"You look like the adventuring lot." he says, somewhat grimly, "We need your help. There's too much going on in this jungle. More than normal. Dragons. Giants. Undead. We need to find the source of this evil and destroy it, once and for all. My friend here," He says, as he points to the Northerner, "tracked frost giants from the far north down here. Something is calling these creatures here and we need to find out what it is. I'm willing to pay you a sizable amount for finding this beacon of evil. Will you help us?"
Glancing at Volo "So you're to say that the undead is just the beginning of our problems...well, if it will help to put end to these attacks, and the things yet to come...then I'll gladly assist...for a fee of course." Cracking a chesire grin. "I've been paid to help defend these lands...but I'd be glad to fight something other than the damned undead. Giants and dragons...now that's a challenge I could enjoy."
Nair nods at both Volo and Balrun's words. "You know, we were just talking of going out and doing something about this situation. You have some great timing, Volo." Nair smiles. "I'd love to find this beacon, much more so, now that you plan on paying us."
