"Ah yes of course. I almost forgot about the book! You see, I am a scholar and a researcher. It's not often that people go deep into Chult." Volo fishes a book out of his pack, "I'm far too weak to brave the dangers of the jungle, but you don't seem to be. All I request is that you take notes along the way. Flora, fauna, monsters, everything."
Quetzalcoatl smiles warmly. "I will gladly take you up on your offer. Gold is worthless to me, but a copy of your book would be of great value on my quest."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thakdrith
"So lets say we accept your offer, would your *Ahem* friend be coming along with us?"
A firm believer in knowing one's employer, he casts Divine Sense in an attempt to determine if there is any evil or ill intent hidden behind Volo, just as a force of habit, knowing all too well the dangers of trusting too quickly and too easily. 8 To detect Ill Intent.
Maromin stares at the book while fiddling with her necklace. She takes out her crossbow from beneath her hair behind her back, then confidently sets it on the table. "You can count me in."
"Gold. I have plenty of it, and I'm willing to share as long as we figure out where this beacon is. I'm willing to give you 10 each to prepare."
@Archimedes, you detect no evil intent.
((In Forgotten Realms lore, Volo is a traveler, writer and scholar. He's a good (and famous) person. The 5e book, Volo's Guide to Monsters is based off of him)).
"10 gold sounds plenty fair to me! Now tell us any details you may have as we drink." Pointing at Volo while shouting to the barkeep "The next rounds on him! To a prosperous business, and a hopeful end to the areas troubles!"
Laughing and grinning at Thakdrith "Aye, when I was a younger lad I always thought of trying my hand at pottery" before bursting out laughing unable to remain serious. Raising his mug and declaring "To new comrades, lost brothers, and the slaying of damnable beasts that keep the likes of me drowning in ale!"
"I do like me some parties..." Volo mutters, thinking of a different kind of party. He then hands each of you 10 gold pieces ((add it to your sheets)). "Well. I'll be waiting. Good luck on your endeavors."
"Lets not waste any time, sounds like all of this is only going to get worse. Let us gather supplies as early as possible tomorrow, and set out as close to daybreak as we can manage. Any objections?"
"None," Quetalcoatl replies, examining the gold pieces. She has since learned that these coins are of great value to the people of the east, and that they can be exchanged for items of practical use. She shrugs and tosses them in her pack.
Nair puts the coins in his belt pouch. "Nope, no objections." Nair gets up from the table, "Well, I'll see you all tomorrow." He gives the a wave and walks to his room.
"Yes, it is important that you rest. I'll be more than happy to pay for your rooms! After all, you are completing my notes." Volo says smiling.
The Northerner looks at Volo. "I suppose you'll be paying my room too?" He asks.
"Why of course not. You're not taking notes are you? Besides, you get enough gold hunting Giants, I half expect you to pay for their rooms." Volo replied, grinning at his old friend.
