Strix isn't able to help much, but he does keep a good eye on the people passing in the street and makes sure his friend's wandering and meandering path is untroubled, until he reaches his destination.
Dekhan, the woman introduces herself as Vhairi Green, a seamstress and long-time scout for the Harpers. I wouldn't trouble yourself with the Divlaynes. There's something fishy going on, to be sure, but we've others looking into it. We had others looking into the bandits too, but alas, I saw their crispy remains on the slab not a tenday ago. You've fought against these mages and their bandit allies? I'm sure you won, since you're sitting here sipping my tea, but did you defeat them with ease, or not? She stares at you intently, awaiting a response. Be honest, sonny. Her eyes narrow.
Incantis follows Vaz to the shop, as that's really what he wants to explore and accomplish here in Waterdeep. On the way he says to the sorcerer and Strix, "If we're out shopping, I'd like to look for some vendors on the more arcane side. Big city like this must have wonderful things to sell. And we have some things to sell ourselves."The half-elf, characteristic to his kind, has started to adapt somewhat to the louder urban setting, more talkative than he usually is.

Incantis, half-elf warlock (great old one) 4/bard 1 ● Thorok Earthhand, hill dwarf mountain druid 6/grave cleric 2
Cragmyre Ironseed, earth genasi ancestral barbarian 3 ● Cyrus Natriallae, aquatic half-elf warlock of the deep 3
Scupper will stay dockside. No trouble making, just getting a good feel for the place again. He'll listen to any sailor talk of which bar is up and coming, which places are on the outs, which gangs are taking protection here, oh...
And how a gang of fire mages managed to terrorize a town and go missing? Also just making sure no one is after Vaz for his display the evening prior.
Varinth, you have a street name, Vellar's Lane, and part of a shop name, Orsabba's, but not a clear set of directions, so it takes you most of the rest of the day to find Orsabba's Fine Imports, a rather grand-looking shop in the Trade Ward. You enter, an the initial impression is favourable - there are a wide variety of strange and exotic goods on display, but more importantly there is a definite smell of smoking in their air, coming from another room. A large counter is in the corner, and behind it a rather keen-looking elf. Welcome to Orsabba's Fine Imports! she cries, the exclamation mark very evident in her words. How can I help you?!
Varinth closes one eye in discomfort.
Hello! Good morning, golly gods that's loud haha. Ah yes I'm hoping you can. In my travels I came across this beautiful pipe and I'm finding it rather glum of me not to be smoking it. Do you have any tabaccoo for sale?
Dekhan raises his eyebrows In all honesty, Vhairi, if not for the martial and spell casting abilities of my compatriots I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you. They laid two of us out before the end, their caster was quite powerful and some of their men at arms took hits that would have felled most men. If we’re to root them out, any information you have would help. Do you have any idea who they are?
Incantis, make a Perception check on the way to Orsabba's, to see if you notice any shops selling magical items. You might also ask the shopkeeper in Orsabba's, if you wish.
Scupper, you learn a little more about the local taverns - if you're looking for really seedy dives on the waterfront, the two places to go are The Thirsty Throat and The Cookhouse. You hear news of a small tavern and inn a little way from the water called the Warm Beds, and learn that it burned down about two tendays ago. You don't learn much more about gangs or bandit mages, however, but you pass the rest of the day in good company. One guy mentions that he remembers seeing you before, when you were ashore with the rest of the Sea Witch crew; he mentions that the Sea Witch hasn't been seen in quite a long while, and he's heard the ship sails mostly near the Moonshae Isles these days. The day moves on, and it will be night soon; you didn't make any particular plans to meet up with the group again (or did you?). What's Scupper's plan?
Varinth, the elf's eyes go wide, or wider, in excitement. Tabaccoo?! What a strange pronunciation! Tabac! Or Pipeweed, depending upon where you are! Yes, indeed, we sell that! Stay here! DON'T! MOVE! She rushes into a back room, leaving you alone for a few moments only before she charges back at a full run, carrying several small leather pouches. Each one contains enough for thirty uses from a standard pipe! Is your pipe standard!?! How would you even know?! Show it to me! she commands.
Dekhan, Vhairi looks at you, considering. If you only survived through the aid of your companions, then why are you walking around the city without your companions? That is foolish, young man. A knitting needle jabs at the air as she emphasises her words. I would suggest that as soon as we're done, you go and find your friends and persuade them to stay together. Waterdeep is a dangerous city right now. She sighs. I wish I knew more that I could share with you. I know very little. But the Harpers are worried, make no mistake. We only know that the new gang does not seem to have a name, but it has a leader - a drow, or someone pretending to be a drow perhaps. Drow are very rare in the Sword Coast, but not unheard of. Whoever they are, they're upsetting the delicate balance of the gangs in this city, and that doesn't serve anyone. My request - find them, provoke them if you feel strong enough to face them, and learn more - then come back and tell me. Whoever they are, we have friends in this city who will help take them down, if and when it comes to that.
You spend about an hour in Vhairi's home, conversing, and she asks you for news of Phandalin and Garaele. When you do leave, she says her farewells. Now, off with you. Take care, and stay with your friends, Dekhan Vale. Do not be alone.
Dekhan nods. Thank you, lady Green, for your counsel and your information. I will not go alone from now on and will make sure my friends don’t either. May I bring them here to speak with you when we have more information or is there a more clandestine way of contacting you that you would prefer? After leaving the shop Dekhan will head immediately back to rejoin the party, keeping an eye on out for danger and a hand near his sword.
I am no lady, Vhairi replies. But you're welcome. There's a tavern just round the corner, the Grey Serpent. You can leave your friends there if you need to meet with me. Or bring them with you. If they're not too noisy. She waves you out, politely but firmly, and closes the door after her.
Does Dekhan know where the others are? Also, is Luskain back at the Blushing Mermaid?
Luskain and Soodi are both fine. Luskain is, as always, happy to see you, though feigning the stoic solemnitude expected of a mighty warhorse.
My goodness, what a standard-sized pipe! It must have taken you ages to find! The elf's enthusiasm, like her volume, seems impossible to diminsh. Two pouches!? That's enough for... many uses! Three gold pieces for one pouch, if you please!! That's... six gold pieces total!! She dashes back behind the counter, standing straight and awaiting the formal purchase.
Scupper makes a stop by the Thirsty Throat on his way back. He'll buy two cheap bottles of rotgut and put some coins on the bar...including the black one.
"Oh fancy that," as he eyeballs the bartender and pokes at the black coin, "Don't suppose you know where THAT coin is any good 'round Waterdeep?"
Now there is a good boy! A noble boy! You keep an eye out, Luskain, alright? There’s trouble, mischief, malice, and worse about in Waterdeep this night. Watch over old Soodi and let me know if you see anything amiss. Dekhan say through his bond with his steed. He then gives him one last affectionate pat and heads into the blushing mermaid, orders the smallest beer they have and sees if he can find a blushing barmaid,
Incantis, the elf replies: YES! We do have incense and herbs! Exotic incense and herbs! She walks to a shelf, picks up some small pouches and returns to the counter. Then she leans in, looking at you very intensely, and says: No charcoal!!
Looking around you and at what she has brought, you do see very expensive and high quality imported incense and herbs in little bags; though it is expensive, you would need less of it for your spells so it would work out the same cost overall. On the way to this shop, you did notice what appears to be a shop selling ingredients in magical and alchemical rituals and concoctions, and possibly some magical items as well (though you would need to enter to see for certain). The name of the shop was the Riven Staff.
Scupper, you purchase your Docker's Ale for three silver a bottle. As you reach into your pocket to touch the coin, it triggers a memory, and a name and address flash through your mind: Veskaya Harrow, Harrow's Fine Sundries, located on the High Road in the Trade Quarter. You recall that Halia Thornton gave you this information (see here).
Dekhan, you find only busy barmaids, not blushing ones. The one tending bar at the moment is named Layla.
Dekhan heads over to the bar and sits down Alright Layla? A small beer if you please. It’s busy in here tonight. Anything special going on or is this how it always is?
She pours a beer and hands it to you. Nothing special. Hold on a second. She moves away to deal with another customer. If you want, you can make a Persuasion check to catch and hold her attention.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dekhan attempts to hold her attention for a moment I don’t want to keep you from your work, but if when you have a moment I could ask you a few questions I would greatly appreciate it. persuasion24
Yeah, okay, hang on. She serves another customer, and then another, and then another. A fair amount of time later, she turns back to you. Yes, what was it again?

Soodi was left back at the Blushing Mermaid,
Varinth, stabbing the heel of his palm into his temple to stem the pain, shows the elf his pipe.
I'll take two pouches if you would be so kind. he tries to ask in between her enthusiasms.
((Fair point.)) Dekhan will return to the Blushing Mermaid, check on Luskain, and await his friends’ return.
Luskain and Soodi are both fine. Luskain is, as always, happy to see you, though feigning the stoic solemnitude expected of a mighty warhorse.
