"There was also the two bandits who saw us fighting the Burners, I suppose it's a dark enough twist of fortune they won't be talking to anyone." He does his own mental workout interpreting Strix's speech. "That is wise, and I'm happy playing puppetmaster from the shadows to avoid painting our and Scupper's target brighter."

Anyone who wants to can make a History check to see what they know about the Zhentarim. I think Strix's background would give him advantage on the roll.
Varinth listens to the conversation at the table while tucking into his eggs. He's not sure when he last ate. He is also a little fuzzy on what everyone is talking about.
*** 'EM! he pipes in when he thinks it appropriate, still a little unsure who Them is. He will try to remember to ask Dekhan later what's happening.
Dekhan... I can't say I trust the Harpers anymore'n any other secret group but the Zhentarim are not fond of the Harpers so I'm guessing they best be informed and maybe consulted. That said, I'm so new te the group and they have suggested a sort of freedom to be active or not... there's nothin te suggest they'll off me fer leavin... unless they lied.
With a history check of 17, Strix would know everything about the Zhentarim as described here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/appendix-c-the-five-factions#Zhentarim. Beartrap had occasional dealings with them, but very warily, liking them less than other less-than-savoury organisations. Unlike local thieves' guilds who have some loyalty or affection for their city - or at least an inclination not to piss in their own backyard - the Zhentarim are too big to care, and will stab anyone in the back.
Dekhan nods along with Strix as he runs through the situation as he sees it, then listens to Incantis and Scupper in turn. He then looks around the room to make sure no one is paying them any undue attention and pitches his voice in such a way so as not to carry further than his friends. I can't speak in absolutes, of course, but everyone I've met in the Harpers has been working for the side of the Light and the people who I know personally I know to be some of the finest I've ever met. I know that they've often been at odds with the Zhentarim and may be able to help us. I've made contact with a Harper scout here already, she said that I could bring you with me next time I went, her shop is near a tavern called the Gray Serpent. We could head there and bring her up to speed with our new information and see what she has to say.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sure, why not: 7 ((Can I include Harper knowledge or want a separate roll?))
Incantis ruminates on his fellows' establishments of local contacts, and he wonders what his sect is doing at the moment, and can't help but keep Vyerith out of his considerations. "That sounds wise, newcomers here as we are we should get a better sense of what we're dealing with."

Strix, drawing on his experiences, the rumours he's heard, the things he's seen, and some of the more probable truths that have been laid upon him holds his hands approximately 3 feet apart to indicate the size of the mess.
(Because there's no way I'm translating that entire appendix into 3 word monosyllabic sentences :D )
Right then, Dek. Lets go to your Harper friend now. We have a bit o' time on the rest afore it all blows up.
Scupper would like to use some kind of disguise or stealth (hide in a crowd?) to follow Dek so he's not seen going to a Harper if they know each other.
Are we all going? Incantis keeps a close eye on Scupper, but on the occasion they make eye contact the warlock's face softens with guilt, friendliness, and sympathy.
Dekhan, you lead the party as you go once again into the Trade Ward, down the well-tended pretty alley festooned with blooming flowers and brightly-painted house fronts. Once again, for those of you unused to the city, you are amazed by the bustle and noise in even the side streets at the busier times of day, and though parts of the city reflect the grim and hardworking lives of its citizens, there is room for nature and art as well.
The dark blue door is there just where it was before, slightly ajar, and as you approach to knock a familiar voice greets you: Sir Obvious and friends, do come in. And well done for keeping together and not being dead. I have heard some fine tales this morning, though I would hear more. Well, come in then.
Vhairi Green sits in her common room looking much as she did before - an older elf woman with a sharp expression on her face. The room has enough chairs to seat all of you comfortably, and looks much like the front room of any middle class waterdeep family. After you sit, Vhairi asks Dekhan: Why don't you introduce your friends, and let me know what brings you back so soon. Not that I mind, of course. Having five strangely dressed adventurers traipsing into my little shop is enormously helpful in maintaining my cover as a humble seamstress. Perhaps I can sell you some cloaks before you go?
"Good for your cover, and for our looks," Incantis says, scanning any of Green's creations with a buyer's eye. "Well met. I am Incantis, pilgrim of the Wandering Star; though I am going by Inky in this magically molested metropolis." He refrains from sitting until invited.
Scupper removes whatever additional rags and cloak he used to go more(?) unnoticed on the way there.
Aye. Well it only be fittin' we get te know one another. It jest being a matter o' time afore Harrow knows what I'm up to. I'm Scupper, pirate of some ill repute, recently finding me inner hero alongside me betters what stands before you.
((Is 'gang' us the party?))

He finishes up his food and orders a beer
Strix's face contorts like a wrung flannel as his brain's tyres start spinning in the mud of memory, trying to gain purchase.

That'd be fine by me. The Zhentarim are many. I'd like to know what kind o' mess I managed to put us all in.

Incantis, you know as much about the Zhentarim as Strix (see link abouve). A separate roll for the Harpers, yes. DC 15 for the information here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/appendix-c-the-five-factions#Harpers

Varinth takes a lengthy draught on his beer and then looks suitably impressed by Stix's analogy of the current Pear-Shaped... ness.
What can I do to help?

Let me know if you're headed out to Dekhan's Harper contact, or staying to deliberate some more.
