It's been a day at sea. Basiel tells tales of his life at sea, and stays alert for danger. Erika spends most of her time in the crow's nest and in the galley, fixing up the food. Dara is typically sitting and reading her spellbook. Benagol often isn't too far off, seemingly checking the equipment on board.
It's evening, and the sea is open and calm. Erika, sitting in the crow's nest and tossing knives into the air, notices it first. A long, thin slice into the water. A fin like shape emerges above the water, and drops down again, only to come up once more on the other side of the ship. With a roar, the sea beast emerges from the ocean. It's beady black eyes fix on the ship, as it swims through the water like a snake.
From what you can see, the beast's head resembles that of a dragon, but it has no wings, only short, webbed fins. It isn't awfully large, perhaps 5 feet wide.
Basiel, you have heard of these beasts from your voyages. They are known as Sea Drakes, and are sometimes spotted harrassing ships near Grizzleheim in the north. The one in front of you is still an adolescent. Sea Drakes can sometimes be scared off by magic, which they fear.
Upon noticing the drake's presence, Dara immediately twitches her hand to the side, temporarily dismissing Aspen. Aspen almost turns into a wisp of smoke as he disappears into a pocket dimension. Soon, she stands up, tucking her book away quickly, as she eyes the drake slither by.
She then warily eyes Basiel, who seems to recognize this entity, before looking at the drake, her quarterstaff once again in her hand.
(Dara could prepare to cast a cantrip/spell at Basiel's request if needs be)
Basiel is at the helm of the ship, holding the Windborne's wheel as the vessel moves through the water. As the Sea Drake rears its head out of the sea, Basiel grunts in surprise. He hadn't thought to encounter one in these southern waters. He turns his gaze to the deck below him, and sees Dara and Benagol staring at him expectantly. His eyes quickly dart to Erika and back to the Drake before he makes up his mind.
Basiel yells out a warning, "Hold fast, Erika! We're coming about," and swings the wheel, turning the ship away from the sea monster, and keeping the ship with the wind if he can. He fixes the wheel on the new course and shouts, "All hands to the deck!"
Calling out to Benagol, he says, "Full speed ahead, Ben! Quickly now, get every hand on those oars, and get them rowing!"
Then, to the wizard, "Dara! Use some of that magic of yours to scare this Drake. Anything dazzling or loud should do the trick!"
((@ashvgupta938: I subtracted 10 GP for the cost of the goods. Correct me if I'm wrong: I believe I read that we don't have a harpoon - or any shipborne weapons on the Windborne, for that matter. ))
((OOC - Catching up a bit here so apologies if the post is a bit all over the place! Also sorry for the extra delay, had an awful day at work upon my return yesterday!))
Before they set sail Filli will have taken the map(after it was copied) to the Goldenfield vault to make sure it was secure, doing her absolute best to avoid any contact with any of her siblings while on the family estate.
After this she will have visited the captain of the watch with Basiel to discuss having additional patrols and a permanent watch stationed outside of the Ship in a Bottle to make sure that Larkan was protected.
She will also have paid half the cost for the supplies they needed, making sure that Basiel accepts the money even if he insists otherwise.
On board ship Filli would spend much of the time in prayer to Argon, asking for the blessing of knowledge to guide them to their missing quarry and seeking guidance. She would also make sure to check in with each of the other crew members to try to get to know them as best she can before they get to the blood shoals.
As the Drake emerges from the sea and Filli hears Basiel call for everyone on Deck she emerges from below as quick as she can. Upon seeing the beast her first reaction would be to draw her musket and hold it at the ready, but listening to Basiel giving orders to the group Filli instead sprints to the oars and gets rowing as fast as she can despite the fact that she is not a particularly strong little halfling.
Mugs stumbles out onto the deck from down below. Moving into the boat was uneventful given she only had her backpack. A free place to stay as well wasn't anything to argue with. She had spent her time hanging out in the mess hall talking mostly with Basiel as he'd tell sea stories, or reading some books she found in the captain's quarters. Being the surgeon was an uneventful task given nobody seemed to get hurt.
- - -
She was in the mess hall when she heard the call for all hands on deck. Shrugging off a nap she runs to the doorway of the ship. A buzz of activity was on the deck as people prepared for battle with the drake. "Blimey." she muttered. Staying hidden in the doorway she waited for an order from Basiel or Filli. Seeing Filli running across the desk she calls out "What are you doing?"
Filli only responds with a quick word as she passes, "Oars."
Windborne is given a sudden burst of speed from the sails and oars, and speeds away from the Sea Drake. The beast attempts to follow but fails, and then dives into the water, and swims away. As it leaves you can see a strange mark on the back of its head. The beast is soon out of view.
The mark was slashed into the scales of the beast, and resembled a storm cloud with lightning bolts beneath it. Dara and Mugs, you can make an Arcana check for the symbol's origin.
The rest of the voyage goes uneventfully. Two days after the encounter with the Sea Drake, you reach Blood Shoals.
Blood Shoals is the name of the beach and cave at the area. After many feet of sand, a mountain sticks out of the ground. Inside this mountain is a cave network, which is also used as a pirate outpost. The rib cage of some enormous beast lies in the sand. The region was named Blood Shoals because of the fighting that frequently occured between pirates, and against the navy. Around the mountain, to the north, south and west is a forest, and to the east is the beach.
How do you want to approach?
((Also, nice job with that encounter. The dice did not favor you when I rolled on the travel table :) ))

Dara has to hold herself, trying to catch her balance at the boost in speed of the ship, having been preparing to cast a spell upon Basiel's request. She frowns in worry at the symbol as she regains her balance. She also makes sure to keep the journey of the ship in mind, trying to fulfill the role of the Quartermaster dutifully.
First he looks at the ribs of the monster, clearly worried, then he looks around, especially in the sand for marks or even little construction etc. (practically all that could let us understand anything that is not natural)

Filli gives a glance in Basiels direction hoping that he will have a plan of approach, however she is unwilling to let Benagol go ashore alone and so she hops off the boat and cautiously follows close behind him with her musket held at the ready in case of danger. As she goes she wracks her head to see if she can remember anything of significance about the Blood Shoals that might help inform them in their approach.
ooc: oh, sorry. I thought we anchored already, that we were on the shore, previously I help to set the anchor and to wrap the sail, as for my tasks, obvious
@Filli, you can't remember much about the Blood Shoals except for the things that are common knowledge: It's a pirate cove, and it takes its name from all the blood that's been spilled on these beaches. The mountain is said to have winding catacombs like a labyrith.
@Mugs, you do remember some lore behind the symbol. It is the symbol of pure elemental storm magic. Magic in this age is made by using parts of each element. Pure elemental magic is deadly and insanely powerful. The fact that the Sea Drake had this symbol means that there is some disturbance in magic that is being manifested in the real world.

If possible with a ship of the Windborne's design, Basiel will guide the others in the task of hauling the ship safely onto the beach, with the help of Benagol. He informs the others of his intention that the craft will be used as a shelter on the shore, as well as a defensive structure should they be attacked. If this is not possible, he will assist Benagol in dropping the anchor and preparing the ship for their disembarkation.
Basiel nods to Filli and protectively grips his own musket. With a last glance at the ship and the sea behind it, he cautiously follows Benagol and Filli onto the beach. He will keep an eye on the mountain and the tree line for any threat.
Perception: 5
If nothing alarms him, Basiel will go inspect the rib cage. He will try to identify the type of creature the ribs were a part of. If Mugs has told the group about her understanding of the symbol on the Sea Drake, Basiel will remember to look for any similar markings.
Windborne is hauled onto the beach, but it will require some manpower to push it out to sea again whenever you wish to leave.
@Basiel, you aren't able to discern anything on the rib cage. The tree line and mountain is safe. No threats from that direction. You are also able to spot an unnatural crack in the rock face of the mountain. It is smooth, rather than the rough rocks around it, and is a flat and clean cut. This is an entrance into the pirate's cave network, very well hidden, but not well enough.
"Do you see that flat part of the rock face?" Basiel asks the others, pointing towards the mountain, "Just there, different from the rough rocks around it. That's the entrance to the pirates' caves, I'd bet. I would also bet that the two we're looking for are inside those caves."
"Should we continue onwards? Do you think it be wise to wait until night falls before continuing into the caves?"

Benagol knows only legend about these creatures and none of them is particularly happy.
He rallies to the harpoon (if there is any) or just charges his crossbow and looks at Basiel, ready for shooting it.
READY ACTION: At Basiel order , Benagol launches the harpoon (if any wihin the ship) or a dart from his crossbow
Initiative if needed: 3
