Andolin mutters lowly, “ I was shown a vision of the rising sun over a forest. But these troubles...perhaps they are connected with the evil the Guardian spoke of in some way. We may as well explore since no one has heard of this tower. It may be that it is something that lies farther to the east...or it may lie adjacent to this plane, as in the vision I saw of the waste. Let’s go to Orlane for now.”
<<OCC: In case any asked before you left, the peasant will tell you it would take him all day to push his cart to Orlane, if he left before dawn [and it's almost sunset now] >>
As you march east, the road shows signs of being more traveled with foot and cart paths seen occasionally branching off to cross the stream to the north or to disappear in the grass to the south. Small lines of smoke can be seen rising in the distance. Just before sunset, you come across a lone peasant's cottage near the road. The crops seem to have been untended for some time as the plots are weed choked, the pigs have broken from their pen and chickens roam freely. An axe lies rusting near the wood pile, no smoke issues from the poor cottage and the front door hangs open on one hinge.
Andolin motions for Wren to join him, then flanks the door and slowly pushes it open, his elven vision piercing any darkness inside, one hand on the hilt of a shortsword.
Inside the darkened, cottage is a single room. The left side of the room functioned as a kitchen with wooden shelves of wooden crockery and utensils, knives hanging on pegs, and earthenware jars. A cold fire pit with a large pot suspended from the ceiling above is in the far corner. In the near right corner, close to the door, a ladder leads up to the loft. Crockery was left on the table, stools overturned, and what was probably the remains of a meal in the pot.
Upstairs are a number of sleeping pallets, clothes still hang from pegs on the walls.
Outside the ground is dry, and based on the weeds, rust and the dry ground, estimate that it jas been 5 or 6 days since the last rain, the weeds are older, and there is no sign anyone being here when the ground was last wet.
As the sun sets, Andolin feels the effects of his bond with the tree [-1 Const till morning, -1 Spell slot].
The night passes, and three half moons rise in the east. As the reach their zenith, Andolin, you are disturbed by a squeal of surprise of a pig outside, and several high pitched voices exclamations in a language you do not understand. That is followed by more squeals and the frightened squawks of chickens.
Out the window, you see 8 small figures, between 3.5 and 4 ft. tall, in two group. Each group is dragging a netted and squealing pig. 4 more smaller figures with moving sacks and nets are chasing chickens through the grass.
The figures have a lizard-like head surmounted by 2 horns, and appear to be wearing dark smocks tied with a rope about the waist, with a dagger hanging from it..
The groups are being directed by a 13th creature, the tallest of them all, wearing a metal cap, and a leather shirt mounted with circular disks. He is armed with a dagger and a broad bladed spear.
Horus whispers to Darwin (and anyone else putting their head close). “Darwin, I think they might be kobolds. Think we should stop them? Sorta seems like they’re robbing the place.”
Andolin nods and whispers back, “These are likely the source of some of the stories the farmers were telling earlier. We could take them here, or folllow them back to wherever it is that they go, see if there are more of them.”

“I like that idea, but don’t kobolds usually trap their warrens?”
Any further questions or actions?
Seraphina is right, appear to be just scared farmers with farm implements defending their families.

Assuming this all looks like it’s been here for a while, Andolin will suggest that we rest here for the evening.
If anything looks disturbed more recently, he would try to investigate further.
In either case, he will take a look around outside to see if there’s anyway to tell what might have disturbed the people who lived here.
Nothing inside points to anything recent.
Outside the ground is dry, and based on the weeds, rust and the dry ground, estimate that it jas been 5 or 6 days since the last rain, the weeds are older, and there is no sign anyone being here when the ground was last wet.

Andolin will see if the others agree, then offer to take watch (as an elf, he needs only 4 hours of meditation).
Horus will take a watch in there

Andolin: “Seems likely. Why don’t we take them here, but either let one go and follow it or capture it? Not sure we’ll be able to talk to it though.”
“A good idea. But I’d like to hear from the others before we make the decision for them.”
