The sounds are coming from the direction that one gnoll ran off to. The top of the map. From where you are now you don't see a cave. The crag looks big enough that there could be one but you don't know at this point.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I think it's better to follow where the chap went, we don't want to run into an ambush of gnolls, do we?"
Belialuin jogs after the gnoll that ran off. He prepares mold earth in case someone tries to rush at him and is generally rather attentive to his surroundings. Can he see anything unusual?
When you round the corner of one of the big boulders and have a clear view of the crag you see the gnoll furiously trying to remove rocks from a small opening at the base of the crag. He almost has the hole big enough to fit through.
Zarbof puts the dagger away, picks up his shield, and follows Belialuin, seeing the gnoll. "Quick, kill it!"
Zarbof goes to put away his shield and battleaxe, draw his crossbow and shoot. (OOC: Presumably it'll take longer for Zarbof to do that than anyone who already has ranged weapons out - Thorum or Mysti/Belialuin's magic, so I'll hold off rolling until they've had chance).
(Sound good Zarbof, but it's up to you. I'm sure someone could probably draw faster but this is another of those times I'm bending the rules a bit. I don't think we needed to stay in initiative or roll new initiative for one very injured gnoll who's trying to escape and focused on getting into that hole :)
I Shout "Guys we might need him to get information. We can always kill him if we wish".
Belialuin dashes forward and slams the gnoll into the ground. In case he tries to escape through the hall I use Mold Earth to seal the hall he created.
"We already captured one gnoll and didn't get anything useful out of him, despite having one of Parth's men who actually spoke Gnoll. None of us do, and in trying to open up that hole, I think he's given us all the information we need about where the rest of the gnolls live."
OOC: I'm assuming from that roll that Thorum killed it anyway, but I was holding off because I'm aware that I maybe have more regular internet access at this time of day than others and don't want to monopolise all of the action! How big is the hole, and are there other rocks that can be moved to make it big enough for us to fit through?
Seeing that all of the gnolls are dead now, Zarbof turns to check out some of the gnoll bodies, rummaging through their clothing for anything of value.
"Does someone want to see if the spear was worth fighting over? Probably not, but someone take a look while I see what's on the rest of them."
OOC: Not sure what, if anything, I'd roll to loot bodies? But someone else should investigate the spear - My investigation modifier is -1!
"I found 247 copper among this lot. To go with the 128 copper from the first bunch of knolls that makes 375. Is it worth splitting up, or shall I hold it for us?
Does anyone want a shortsword or two? Or a spear? At the very least we should take them back to Parth for his training camp."
OOC: My investigation skill is pretty bad. Does someone with a decent investigation modifier want to investigate the general area, and the hole the gnoll was trying to open up?

Belialuin tries to find anything on the gnoll that tried to run off and then checks the body of the old alpha. He also tries to look for any trace of arcane in the vicinity.

Zarbof moves back over to where the last gnoll was moving rocks and investigates the hole it was making.

(Ha! That's why I wasn't investigating!) Zarbof can't even find the hole any more. "Can someone come and help me find where that gnoll was rummaging, and check it out?"

Belialuin waves to Zarbof "The whole is right their" pointing at the place where he tried tackling the gnoll. "We should check there Zarbof". He goes to the hole to see if he can see anything inside and understand where the gnoll was trying to flee.

RavenloftAnnihilationYou don't need to roll anything to search the bodies. If you're searching the area give me an investigation check.
On the gnolls you find 247 copper
The new alpha gnoll has 2 shortswords and leather armor
There is the also the spear from the old alpha

Thorum is listening intently for sounds of more Gnolls in the area or from the area where the Gnoll was moving the stones.

Is there anything special about the alpha's spear or just your typical spear?

RavenloftAnnihilationEach of you walking around checking on various things don't find much. (no one had very good rolls)
As far as you can tell there are no other gnolls in the area.
The spear does look very well made and could be more than it appears but you're not sure.
There is nothing of an arcane nature that's detected.
What you notice about the hole is that there is the smell of mustiness and decay rising from it.
