Iz sheaths her sword and crouches down to poke the goblins with her finger. Her poking is sufficient to cause one to flop over, and she muffles a shriek, trying not to let on that she scared herself.
"Regardless, I think we should stick together... for protection."
She raises her shield. She'll try to stick with the party wherever they go, and encourage everyone to stay nearby as much as possible.
Frixori moves around the jumpy halfling. "Well, I'm going to make sure they didn't stuff something useful in that chest upstairs. I suppose anyone else is more than welcome to follow."
Underneath the bronze bell on the steeple floor Frix finds two sacks. The first contains three blocks of incense, a silver holy symbol in the shape of a unicorn' s head, and a few personal letters addressed to a "Hiral Mystrum." In the second sack is a poor box containing 37 copper coins and 15 silver coins, and three empty vials.
As Frix goes upstairs and the rest of the party prepare to head outside, Iz wipes down her blade and sheaths it, and settles her shield on a chair so she'll be able to pick it up again when she's all bundled up. She starts gathering her still wet and muddy clothing with an eye-roll and a sigh. She starts squeezing on the damp layers, trying to wring them out as best she can before squishing into them awkwardly.
But... as Nana Sagefoot always said, a halfling must keep warm in these dark times.
While others search the church, Rat will make a slow and stealthy circle around the building, trying to determine other points of interest nearby. Or even just signs of life.
Through the dim fog Rat can make out the outlines of a graveyard to the north of the temple, the Nightstone Inn and town square to the east, scattered farms and residences to the south, and the town gate to the west. Everywhere he looks he finds massive boulders buried in the mud.
Once she's all bundled up again, her shield in place on her forearm, Iz remarks,
"But... shouldn't we check the Nightstone Inn first? And... not only because there might still be stew and a warm fire. It seems it would be a fine establishment for townsfolk to seek refuge, if they hadn't time to reach the keep?"
It's pretty clear that she is tired and cold and just wants a bowl of stew, but she's trying to be a good sport.
Frixori stuffs the holy symbol into her pack and returns downstairs with the two bags. "It looks like they had collected a few things around town."She plops the two bags onto the ground. She picks up one of the empty vials. "Looks like someone had a few drinks."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Nothing else here, let's go," says Druug, heading out of the temple. He looks around as he exits, eyes narrowed, searching for anything that looks like trouble.
"Sounds like a plan to me," Thalia agrees. She pulls a hood back up over her head, double-checks that her bundle of things is properly shielded by the spare cloak, and steps back outside into the mist. "Hey, Rat! Have you found anything? Is it safe to head for the inn?"
Iz waits patiently while the party discusses their next move; which for Iz, means checking her equipment as best she can in her spherically clothed state (I imagine much clattering and clanging and apologetic looks), and whistling a happy tune to keep the spooky temple ghosts at bay.
A mischievous grin comes to the tiefling's face. "Look out, little one! A ghost!" Frixori rubs on a piece of fleece in her pocket as she brings about an illusion of a spectre near Iz.
(I have a halfling trickster cleric that would get along well with Iz. She has a Nana she prays to as well - Nana Charles/Charmalaine)
The front door to the Nightstone Inn creaks open, revealing the ruined remains of a dining room. A boulder has punched through the roof of the establishment, shattering a table and a pair of long wooden benches. A wardrobe and bed from the guest room above lie beside the broken table. Two smaller round tables and several chairs survived the impact of the boulder, and they stand on either side of the room. A staircase leads to the upper floor, and a door on the opposite wall leads into the kitchen.
A dead goblin with a crossbow bolt in it's chest lies in the middle of the room, and rummaging can be heard from the kitchen.
Rat peeks in, acknowledges the situation, makes a hushing motion towards the others and points them inside. Then points to himself and shows that he'll be circling around back from the left side. Then to the tiefling to circle around the right side.
Iz leaps back and taking a swing at the illusionary ghost with a gloved fist.
Back, to the netherworld you! Tell your master he won't have my soul this day!
She is dismayed when her fist passes straight through, and she waddle-runs over to Druug for otherworldly protection. She's thoroughly embarrassed when she finally realizes that she was tricked, and tries to play it off as if she knew it was an illusion all along, but wanted to play along.
She follows Rat a little too closely as he enters the Inn. She looks around in dismay, and is about to say something, but then Rat tells everyone to be quiet. She readies her sword and shield, and waits for signs of an attack, squinting hard at the darkness.
Thalia stays back a bit with Isabella and Druug as the gnome and tiefling set off around the perimeter. She holds her still-lit, mostly-clean dagger through the inn's doorway, the better for Iz to see what's inside, but the dragonborn herself is a little too distracted by the presence of the boulder and the gaping hole it left in the ceiling. "A boulder... through the roof...?" she whispers, her tone wavering between nervous and impressed. "That's... wow. I don't think goblins did that. Not unless there's a catapult somewhere around here we haven't seen yet. What in the gods' name is going on?"

Rat says, "Seems safe. Just watch your footing, there's mud and boulders and shit all around."
He will continue doing the hunting dog movements in the direction the group is moving, keeping silent and observant.
