Lady Susanne moves towards the sense of the benevolent protection, trying to position herself between the point she sensed and the figure moving closer to it. "Who is there she says..both of you I am talking to...the figure with the divine protection and the other moving towards it...who I think is Vappa, both of you identify yourselves."
Vappa hears Lady Susanne's voice and lets out a low hiss. "There are spirits... on boat." He says, never turning away from the being staring at him in the fog.
"Yes I sense them, but I think the evil spirits are surrounding the boat...and this spirit here," she points to the figure on the rail, "I sense a divine presence, possibly holding back the evil spirits..." Lady Susanne looks at the figure by the rail again, "Identify yourself spirit."
Vappa and Lady Susanne, the figure with the glowing golden eyes calls out to you in a familiar voice "Hail, Vappa and Lady Susanne. I apologize for startling you." and Orias Stol, the ships surgeon, steps into your limited field of view. The purple-skinned tiefling regards the both of you with golden eyes behind circular spectacles. "You sense them too? I couldn't sleep but for the unsettling chills that have haunted me since this fog appeared."
"Well I do sense them, but even more concerning right now is the big puddle back there on the deck, with a trail leading away from it..." Susanne says, "I don't suspose you've been swimming this evening Orias, have you? You don't look wet."
"No, not this night Lady Susanne. I too saw the puddles of water when I came on deck. I also heard the mournful cries of the spirits and seen their incorporeal forms sliding through the sea alongside the Misty Matron." says Orias as he stares off, absentmindedly touching a pendant hanging from a thin silver chain around his neck. He looks up to you and says "It seems the legends were true. The spirits of long dead sailors haunt these waters."
"So Orias, what do you suppose made the puddle then and left the trail...I fear we need to track it down as we may have another infiltrator on board." Lady Susanne says scanning around for anything else out of place.
OOC: How are we handling the loot, I see people search and you say what they find but what then? Just curious cause my character didn't even have a chance to search she was sent below for medical attention, which is fine, but I need to save up for plate armor.
(strife found 20 gold worth of pirate accessories and stuff. You can have some if ya want, I had Strife offer to split it with whoever so that if anyone wanted some they could. )
"If I had to guess I'd say it was one of the spirits, I don't think anyone would survive long out there among the angry dead. We're protected from their ire thanks to this charm I acquired during my time helping the indigenous peoples that live amongst the many strings of islands along the Sword Coast. I kept it more as a lucky charm than anything, but I understand now the reverence in which those people held it."
OOC: I'll leave it up to the party to fairly distribute loot amongst yourselves. Up to this point the loot has been rather light as Bandits and Pirates don't tend to carry too much, and to offset the 250gp payout you all recieved at the beginning of the expedition. If I had to guess, I'd say an island that doubled as a Pirate hideout has a pretty good chance of being laden with loot though.
The rest of the night passes cloaked in dense fog and filled with the cries of the undead, but it passes uneventfully. Vappa and Kelp manage to navigate despite the fog thanks to an ancient looking spyglass that Cpt. Red Skies had given them once the fog rolled in. Though simple in appearance and obviously a few hundred years old, the spyglass grants its user a crystal clear view through the fog.
Early the next morning, the shout "Land ho!" is heard from atop the Crow's Nest. After a few hours you can just make out a dark shape on the horizon. Eventually, the shape grows in size and detail as the Misty Matron takes advantage of prevailing winds and sails swifty through the sea toward the island.
The Misty Matron drops anchor in the deep waters about a mile off shore of the island. Cpt. Red Skies gives command of the ship to Isadore, the cook, before she and the party climb into a rowboat that's just big enough for everyone and some supplies, with which the plan is to establish a base camp. The roawboat is lowered slowly into the water and once untethered, the party begins rowing their way to the island.
The island appears to be covered in dense jungle. A large smoking volcano surrounded by large rocky hills rises above the treetops, their bulk encompassing the rear portion of the island. What appears to have once been a rock-filled harbor is now choked with the wreckage of a shattered ship. Splintered hull and broken masts jut out of the water at odd angles, shredded sails hanging limply from them.
As the oars cut through the crystal-clear blue water, you hear and feel a bump as something knocks against the hull of the rowboat. A few strokes later and you feel two more bumps, these a bit harder than the last.
Suddenly the rowboat rocks violently as something rams into it’s port side. A large dark dorsal fin breaks the water on the other side of the boat, and you see it starting to come around for another ram. Two more sharks slam into the hull and the boat bucks from the blows, threatening to toss you and your gear into the water.
I need everyone to make a Dexterity saving throw to keep from being tossed overboard!
OOC: Headed to work, I work again early in the morning so I won't be able to post again until around 2pm central time tomorrow.
As the kobold jumped into the rowboat, he would cast gust on the back of the craft once they were ready to depart, propelling it forward and making it easier to reach the shore. "Thanks for saving me yesterday..." The kobold would say quietly as his eyes move from the floor of the boat to lock eyes with Seldor. "I uh... I appreciate it. No one has ever done anything like that for me... here" The kobold would say as he reaches his hand into his bag and pulls out 10g worth of pirate teeth and earrings (Technically Seldor's share and Strife's if anyone would have asked for any of the pirate stuff). "I want you to have some of this nice stuff... I wouldn't have it if you hadn't saved me...." Strife would say holding the bag in both hands obvious struggling with the idea of giving out the loot. A few moments later as the boat starts to rock, Strife will try to quickly put his treasures back in his bag....
Strife, you plant one small clawed foot on the gunwale of the rowboat and cast your spell. The boat is propelled through the water at a decent clip and leaves a large wake. Suddenly, you hear and feel a bump as something knocks against the hull of the rowboat. A few strokes later and you feel two more bumps, these a bit harder than the last.

OOC: Ha ha, sorry. Feel free to search for treasure once you actually reach the shore. Provided you aren't eaten before then!

Insight check on Orias.

Vappa, though a bit enigmatic and mysterious as all Tiefling seem to be, you get the feeling that Orias is being honest with you thus far.

Vappa will sheath his blade and cross his arms. "How long until... fog subsides?"
