This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lady Susanne is going to search around the crew quarters for anything of value or that they can use to replace lost supplies and then will move on to search around the supply room the captain pointed out...
as you approach the open door you notice that the lock is damaged and that the damage appears recent.
Lady Susanne, the crew quarters is filled knee-deep with seawater. Bits of ruined cloth and broken wood float in the water. Everything in the room is rusted and waterlogged. There appears to be nothing of value or worth salvaging. Moving on to the supply store, you find broken crates and smashed barrels, most of their contents still sitting inside though long ago spoiled. A few of the crates and barrels do appear to have been emptied of their contents though you aren't sure if it was before or after the ship wrecked. Hanging in slimy cargo netting high on the back wall, you find a small locked chest.
Lady Susanne, you try to pry the small chest open but the seal stays water-tight. Judging from the sturdy construction and looking at the locking mechanism, you get the feeling a few well placed blows from the pommel of your blade might do the trick... Or ruin it in such a way that prevents opening it...
If you'd like to try opening it, roll 3d20. If thetotal is 35 or less, the chest opens. 36 or greater and the lock is ruined and it will not open.
Susanne will hold the box for a little bit in case they stumble across a key or maybe one of the others has a crowbar or thieves tools that can help open it. If not then later she can try to force it.
And she goes to catch up with Strife and the captain.
What I was referring to was using an Inspiration on Susanne opening the chest, but instead of adding 1d6 to the total, she'd subtract that from the total.

Ah ok, I see. You mean the roll where she would roll 3d20s. Lady Susanne, I think Strife has a crowbar, but it you want to try the 3d20 roll to open the chest, you can roll an additional 1d6 and subtract it from the total.
Strife will turn to the crew "Hey, it looks like the lock to this door was damaged recently..." The kobold will say with a look of confusion. Then seeing Lady Susanne examining and trying to open the small locked chest, Strife will pipe up, holding out his claw to stop her. "Hey! I have a crowbar you can use that might help you with that! Or I can try to pick the lock... I uh... I have a little bit of experience picking locks... " Strife will mention before pausing and wondering if he should have kept the last part to himself.
Lady Susanne, go ahead and make another Strength (Athletics) check with advantage, using the crowbar.
It's been a while since Vappa last posted so we'll move things along. You find nothing else of value in the flooded crew quarters or storage room. Strife noticed that the lock to the storage room appears to have been damaged fairly recently. Lady Susanne noticed that some of the crates and barrels in the storage room appear to have been emptied relatively recently. After searching the rooms, you suddenly hear footsteps and other noises coming from above deck...

Strife,

Lady Susanne grabs the small locked chest and try to find a way to open it.
If you and the party lack lock picks or a set of Thieves' Tools, you could always try a Strength check.
so athletics check or straight strength?
Athletics is fine.
Athletics check 7
assuming it didn't open on that roll she will take the chest and go to catch up with Strife and the captain

Seldor, absolutely.
Lady Susanne, you can add one of Seldor's inspiration dies to your previous total.

(Strife totally has a crowbar and thieves tools, just posting quick to chime in, busy now!)

"Go for it Strife" Lady Susanne hold out the box for him to take and try to open.
"Oh uh, OK!" The kobold would say taking the box from Lady Susanne. Strife would then pull out his theives tools and get to work on the lock. 22
"This lock is pretty tough... You uhh... you might just need to borrow my crowbar after all..." Strife will say as he struggles with the lock.
Lady Susanne, go ahead and make another Strength (Athletics) check with advantage, using the crowbar.

Still not having much luck with the lockbox Susanne heads upstairs to investigate the noise.
Seldor follows behind Lady Susanne with his rapier out.
