I had placed Fope at the altar because I did not think he would want Barnaby climbing up to it alone, but, Dov, place Fope as you see fit. And if you guys had (or have) any words of encouragement for Ireena, please share them.
As Fope struggles to keep control of his own mind, Ireena - hearing the chanting, but unaware of Fope's struggle - makes her way to the crank. She has not reached it yet.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Føpé was attempting to persuade the chanters to help him with Gågor, as they were the ones chanting at him, in case maybe they can. Nothing to do with Barnaby except that Føpé stood near him in a protective way. Wisdom save at disadvantage: 9
[edit] he gets to reroll the 1 with a 14, so with the disadvantage, that comes out ton 10.
As Kif crosses the room, he observes Puddin appearing to cast a spell quietly. Almost simultaneously, she gently tries to get a grip on the scruff of Revenge's neck, but he - perhaps sensing her intent - backs away just in time.
One must die! Puddin says. Don't you see? One of us must die before the spirits will let us out of this room. Just think of how awkward it would have been, if we didn't have the perfect sacrifice! Look what we've been sent by Shar! She points down at the wolf cub.
She appears to be very much herself. The perceptive among you would simply believe that she doesn't care one bit about the wolf cub, and sincerely believes that this is the path to take to get the party out of this room.
Fope finds himself unable to respond, or to move, because he has failed his save and is currently Held. Kif was right nearby as the spell was being cast, and was close enough (and rolled well enough on his Perception check) to see that it was Puddin who cast it.
Puddin reads Kif's glare, and she turns to look at him. He seems like a decent kid, Kif, but we need to be able to talk about this for a sec with less drama. Now she looks at Fope: Sorry, kid, it'll wear off pretty soon.
Puddin', let him go, we are not going to kill anyone here, especially to appease these 3rd class spooks. who knows if that would even work, but if we do that we're no better than they are.
Kif has stopped and moves up to Puddin, ready to act.
We all need to be working together to get out of here
Puddin looks like she really doesn’t care. “Whatever. Brace yourself.”
The chanting gets louder. Place yourselves and take whatever actions you intend to take. Kif, you can scoop up your axes. They’re just laying there in the shallow water. The wheel is not turning easily.
I wanted to persuade her not to do something like that again. It seems like my characters charisma should play a roll in her treating him like a child.
I suppose she is an NPC at this point, so go ahead and roll. I will caution you that it has been and remains my goal to play her consistently with how she has been played until this point. I think it would be unfaithful to her character, as her personality has been developed so far, to allow her to be bullied easily in this context, so the DC will be challenging for an Intimidation/Persuasion check. But go ahead.
Because you said please, I'll call it a Persuasion check. If you want to be more intimidating in your tone of voice, you can make it Intimidation. Up to you, though (of course) there might be consequences for an attempt to intimidate.

Ireena, get to that crank, see if you can open the gate!!
are the voices saying anything we can understand
Føpé will guard his honored elder.
Very well, Føpé says, I will fetch my brother to this place, he is good to die. I may need your help in getting him.

I have already told you *never* to roll a die in a player vs. player context unless I clearly ask it of you. Barnaby, ignore that roll.
Fope, make a Wisdom save at disadvantage.
As Fope struggles to keep control of his own mind, Ireena - hearing the chanting, but unaware of Fope's struggle - makes her way to the crank. She has not reached it yet.
The voices repeat, over and over:
One must die! One must die! One must die!
Kif, you may move if you want.
Also, everybody roll a fresh Perception check.

Ah. The chanters are spirits. Kif was quite near one when it appeared, and it didn’t even look at him.
Yes, he was addressing the spirits. So far the party has had luck with that. Perhaps these spirits are less talky and just chanty.
Kif will move over to Ireena for a moment to protect her and, if his hand axes are within reach he will grab them
Sorry we brought you into this, Ireena, you're very brave
I'm going to try and help her work the crank

Betrayed again! When the time is right, she will die. Gågor will die. They will all die!
She looks disappointed but unwilling to fight about it.
”Fine, fine.” She waves her hand and Fope feels free to move. “We’ll see. Sorry, Fope. Brace yourselves for whatever, I guess.”
I guess she doesn't have to die after all. That was really rude Pudin. Please don't do that again.
Am I aloud to make rolls against Pudin?
If you want to attack her or something, fine. In this moment. But not social encounter rolls, such as Persuasion or Deception.

Puddin casts Bless on Barnaby, Kif, and Fope.
