The orb is varnished, so it is hard and smooth to the touch. You are free to eat the withered tongue if you want, but Revenge has no interest in it or in any of the other curiosities.
You estimate about a dozen voices, but it's hard to estimate the size of a chorus from listening.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
13 niches 13 voices? I wouldn't fancy any tea made from stuff in here, Barnaby. Looks like the lamest yard sale ever, it's only missing a couch in the rain with a free sign
Well, I'm inclined to check the door that doesn't lead down to gates and murky depths. And no, Føpé, I'm not familiar with that, you'll have to enlighten me some time.
You enter a series of cells. Prison cells, you would suspect. Manacles hang on the walls. There are no remains of prisoners down here, though, except for a single skeleton in the southernmost room. It is a heap of bones in a robe matching the cultist robes you have found elsewhere in the building.
You might guess, correctly, that the skeletons lining the room where you found the Strahd statue include the remains of those who died here.
If you investigate the skeleton, roll a Perception check.
If you get a 10 or higher, read this:
You are fairly confident that this is just a harmless heap of bones in a robe, and not something that will spring to life on you.
If you roll a 16 or higher, read this:
Deep in one of the folds, near the left hand, is an exquisite golden ring, worth 50g.

Barnaby considers ritually caring detect magic to examine the triplets in the niches but then he notes that the dm twice refers to them as worthless and decides not to bother.
He does inspect the skeleton though. Investigate: 4
Edit: God I’m such shit at this die rolling thing.
Perhaps these are the remains from which the mother ghost sprung, or maybe father was kept as a prisoner down here. I recall that we have learned that they were at odds.

Hah! You guys are perceptin' poorly.
And Ireena:

There's nothing else in here. The skeleton has no signs of trauma or anything that hint at something other than a prisoner died and the skeleton was not moved up to the small sanctuary with the statue.
Ireena finds an elaborate gold ring, deep within the folds of the robe and near the left hand. It doesn't appear to have any magical properties or special insignia.

Right Kif. We'll follow you. Puddin, why don't you take the rear with me and we'll keep an eye out in case anything should come out of that other tunnel to try and sneak up behind us.
You make your way around to the puddly tunnel. After just five feet, you encounter a grid-type portcullis.
The chanting is quite loud now, and clearly coming from the chamber on the other side of the portcullis. With your darkvision, you can make out a central structure inside this large chamber, with water around most of the floor. There is a ledge around the outside of the room, too. For now, it's all on the other side of the portcullis.
It looks like there is a crank, maybe 5-10' inside the room along the wall to your left. If you can't figure out how to reach it and operate it, you'll probably have to brute force it.
One moment kids. Here's a little trick I have had surprisingly little use for thus far in our adventures.
Barnaby waves a hand about and mumbles some arcane words under his breath. A spectral hand appears on the other side of the portcullis and Barnaby attempts to operate the crank with it.

Still Kif looks about 12 perception
Do they have pétanque where you're from Kiff? Stupid exile. Føpé runs his hands nostalgically over the eyeball.
Kif peers more closely around the room, and discovers nothing more as he examines these worthless, grisly trinkets.

That's it for the prison cells.

11 perceptin'
Besides the skeleton I'm going to look through the rest of the cells looking for anything unusual
12 perception
Puddin checks, too:

She slips it onto her finger and admires it.
Well, nothing more to see here, shal we explore down the stairs to the gate and murky depths? Kind of like a wet bar

Perception: 9
as a group we have collectively the worst perception rolls evar...except for the NPC, of course

Is there a visible mechanism on this side of the gate to open it
16 investigation
otherwise does it look like something we can move manually with enough swagger
