What? Are we considering another companion so soon? It will be difficult to trust another man so easily after I was so wrong about Fope. On the other hand, it’s hard not to respect a man who starts his day with a drink. Barnaby orders a whiskey and water so as not to be left out. Well met friend. My name is Barnaby. This is Lucento. Yes, we all find ourselves here quite unexpectedly, though in this town... it is definitely best to just enjoy yourself. Of course you are welcome to join us. There is strength in numbers. I hope you know what you are doing with that blade though, it seems like we have a way of attracting trouble.
Chubs looks at the blade. I take it with me when I travel. Sometimes I work the forms, but probably not as much as I should. I had just set out for Wine Fest in the Crumbling Hills, when the fog came. As for trouble, I find that there's very little that song and good cheer can't keep away, little one! He slaps Barnaby on the back joyfully. I shall have an easier time enjoying this strange fog magic in good company. Thank you for your invitation.
The winery is roughly 10-11 hours of travel time away to the west. If you left now, you would spend several hours traveling at night. If you wait until morning, you should arrive late afternoon.
If you guys decide to spend the rest of the afternoon in Vallaki and leave in the morning, you can give me a list of things you want to do and I'll summarize (to the extent possible) what happens.
This is down time before heading out the following day. It's the first time we've had something like that. Just tell me what you want to do; the whole town is at your disposal. I'll take care of it summarily, if I can.
Whether or not we roll play it, Barnaby would like to check in with the priest and the orphanage mistress to get their thoughts on the burgomaster and his lieutenant. Our new friend Chubs seems to be quite the charmer, so I would like to encourage him to do the talking, but, if allowed, Barnaby will chip in to try and aid. The thought is that if the DM allows this, Chub rolls a persuasion check for each person with advantage to get them to open up on their opinions. Of course we look to have these conversations where we can expect some privacy.
Chubs is enthusiastic, friendly, and ready to have a good time. He comes off as a little bit over the top, and is not all together the most charming person. He will however be thrilled to try.
Excellent question, because I have made a point of not saying. As you wander around talking to your old friends and introducing Chubs to them, you do learn that the festival is supposed to start in four days. That basically gives you Day 1 (in progress) still here in Vallaki, Day 2 mostly on the road and arrive at the winery, Day 3 start at the winery and return, in time for the festival on Day 4.

Headmistress Belasco and Father Petrovich both consider themselves in your debt and are happy to talk to you and to meet your new friend.
Both are weighed down by those in their care, and they are not particularly involved in local politics. The know that they burgomaster has these constant festivals, and they know that his reasoning is that happiness keeps the darkness at bay. They do not utter Strahd's name, which is consistent with what you heard from Lady Wachter, but it is clear enough that that is what they mean.
There is enough time in the afternoon for Barnaby to finish learning his spells, in addition to the time spent wandering the streets of Vallaki.
Feel free to throw in other questions or business for the afternoon. Otherwise, night falls, and you spend one last evening at the Blue Water Inn before the following day's journey.
Barnaby and Lucento, you have extraordinary dreams, full of light and color. You awaken incredibly refreshed, with 1d6 temporary hit points.
Also, Barnaby and Lucento, make CON saves and INT saves.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Burgeoned by a good night's sleep and auspicious dreams Lucento declares, with renewed vigor and brightness: "Dreary as it may be, if the region has a respectable vineyard it may yet redeem itself! Lets tarry no further -- if we hurry, we may yet have time to fulfill our errand and sample some of the local vintages ourselves!"
Lucento makes both saves! He desires another pastry for breakfast. The craving is strong enough that he does not feel quite himself, almost as if he will now suffer a particular penalty until his next long rest. Unless he has a pastry.
He also recognizes that this craving is not healthy, and there is possibly something unwholesome afoot, with regard to the pastries.
Barnaby, also, has succeeded on his Constitution save. He desires a pastry for breakfast but does not crave one as he did the day before. He, too, feels a bit sick. A pastry would no doubt help him feel better.

Kif will cautiously approach the man
Greetings, fellow stranger, My name is Kif, what would you be called?
Despite the somewhat early in the day hour Urwin, might I also have a beer, and perhaps a sausage mcgriddle of some sort?
Hi Kif, I'm Chubs.
So ... I'm in a bar, which is great. But I'm not in Water Deep, which is, ... confusing.
Kif makes his order.
Do you like frachy beers? Try this.
He proffers his mug with a smile. Chubs is very happy to share his frachy mug of beer, and nervously trying too hard to make a good impression.

The clap on the back sends Barnaby stumbling forward, but he catches his balance and manages to give Chub a wary smile.
Barnaby will definitely take the time around whatever other activities to memorize the remainder of the spells from the found spell book.
Done!

We're going to a winery in the morning? Fun! I was headed to a winery before the fog took me here. Perhaps this one too is run by my brethren.
In the mean time, I'd like to get my bearings. Perhaps some of you could join me for a walk and song around the neighborhood?
Remind me when this festival will be starting?

Do the temp HP I got from the previous day fade away?
I'd like to check with the Inn keeper if there are any horses available to help speed our journey to the winery
Yes. After a long rest.
There are no horses.
