Sorry I've been inattentive for a while. I think I will be able to get back in the swing of things.
Barnaby will spend the extra time looking for Vistani willing to listen to him tell the stories that his companions are already sick of hearing.
Chubs will find a quiet space to meditate (drink) and ponder the significance of his recent misfortunes and near death experience in the land of Barovia.
She places this card in the top position, and stifles a gasp. The Tax Collector! The image is a woman - all the cards appeal to be humans - studying a list, with a sack at her feet. The sack has splitting seams, and is spilling coins onto the road around her. The Visanti have what you seek. A missing child holds the key to the treasure's release.
Barnaby: Madam Eva, it is delightful to once again gaze upon your face which radiates as much wisdom as from anyone I have met in my many years. I do have a few questions for you.
Deep in thought he scratches at his backside through his robe. First, when reading Kif's fortune at our last meeting, I recall something about a missing child holding a key. We found a woman searching for her missing child, and you said that the Visanti have what we seek. Does this mean that the missing child is among your ranks or have I misunderstood you?
Additionally, as your people are able to travel back and forth from this isolated land, are you able to conduct trade for those of us who do not enjoy that freedom? If so, how long would it take to fulfill such a transaction?
Barnaby: So, perhaps I am daft, but I just don't understand. If your people are able to leave this place, why is it that we cannot just travel with you and thereby find our way out?
Barnaby as an aside to Kif: Ah, I'm not sure I understand the Visanti, but they certainly seem the friendliest people in Barovia...he scratches at his beard thoughtfully...and the happiest. Perception: [roll]1d20+1[/roll]
I'm not saying they did this, perhaps this is a missing girl that some other foul agency has corrupted. There are plenty of foul agencies about this place
Kif braces himself while his mates get ready
Barnaby: Yes Kif, I apologize, I did not read your post closely enough before, but now I see what you were saying. Did we not also meet a grieving mother, when we first arrived in town, whom we perhaps told we would keep an eye out for her missing daughter? Perhaps the GM will help remind us so we don't have to dig back through all those posts. Meanwhile, if this is her, she does not look in a good state to be bringing back, so...His hand lifts up and he points at the girl with his jaw rigidly set.
Firebolt: [roll]1d20+7[/roll] to hit for [roll]2d10[/roll] fire damage.
Chubs: Moves forwards (up to 40') to engage scary demon child. Two attacks with the Gulthias Staff: [roll]1d20+7[/roll] to hit for [roll]1d20+4[/roll] damage; [roll]1d20+7[/roll] to hit for [roll]1d20+4[/roll] damage.
First battle with fun new level five abilities! Woot Woot!
Edit: Oops...wrong damage rolls for Chubs. Here's the corrected ones: [roll]1d6+4[/roll], [roll]1d6+4[/roll].
Barnaby reaches out as Kif rush's ahead, but he is a moment late...Slow down Kif. That thing looks sick. You'll catch your death. Barnaby rolls his eyes. He then jostles his shoulder nudging Tulip out of the hood of his cloak. Go friend. Tulip, with a few sharp beats of her wings, catches up with Kif delivering the spell Protection from evil/good to him (immunity to fear/charm/possession by all kinds of nasties - including undead - and they also have disadvantage on attacks against him.)
Barnaby and Chubs in unison while squinting and shielding their eyes from the bright noonday sun: Kid? What Kid?
Barnaby initiative: [rolll]1d20+2[/roll]
Chubs initiative: [rolll]1d20+4[/roll]
Edit: These rolls were broken when I first posted. I made the next post to reroll. Then I came back and edited this post just to make the dialogue bold, and when I saved that the rolls worked. I have added the extra 'l' to break them again. When they did work they were both better than the ones below.
Barnaby: Yes, that explains Tulip's recent jitters. His eyes narrow a touch in the staff's direction.
Chubs: I do hate to make nature's little innocents uncomfortable. On the other hand, if it keeps me vertical in this god forsaken land, it's probably worthwhile...or it is if the weeping blood doesn't drive me insane. Chubs glares with more malice than Barnaby did at the staff.
Chubs, after tucking in to his stein for a bit, is eager to go show those dog faced boys who's boss around here. I think the winery is too far away to make our dinner party. Otherwise, I'd be in on that. Barnaby is quieter than usual standing to the side with furrowed brow. If pushed, I'm tired of only bad choices, but given that there are only bad choices, and sitting still won't do anything for us, I am game for any option.
Josh/DukeOfPrunes, like Barnaby, is up for anything. We have a vote for the gypsies, any thoughts from Misalyk?
Barnaby: Ah, I see, your Aunt is Madame Eva. Very well. We spent a lovely evening with her once before. I would like to see her again. As I recall, she did have some tasty wine.

Chubs: Yes, yes. If nothing else, I hope he puts out a good spread. I haven't had a full belly since we got here.
