"Seems it be pretty well settled then less any of yu's gots more to add...."
Pausing a bit to see if anyone adds anything,...Merric adds "I's got to be fillin' me pack and maybe gettin' some thicker clothes and outdoor gear...be's getting a lil' colder up here thans I expected. Where's can I be buyin something tasty and buyin' me a warmer cloak and such?"
Joseph is able to sell some fur-lined winter gear to merric. "I got some snow shoes as well, if your'e interested? Is your dwarven friend needing some boots? I got a couple pair back here."
Before everyone leaves and after they have made their purchases you all watch him climb up onto the bar and bring down the display, that was hanging above the bar. I have some things that I no longer use, they're just sitting here looking important, not doing a dang thing. You all can use them if you'd think they'd help." You see a fine cloak, a gleaming longsword and shield all on the counter.
Durven will meet everyone outside when they are ready to travel. ((If you want Durven to accompany you. If not, he can just give you some final directions.))
"They's all be lookin's too big for me...ya'all takes a look at that stuff if it be suitin' ya. The cloak may be workin' for me as a blanket to keeps warm maybe..."
"How much for the boots? Some wolves bit a hole in one of mine." Harivaldr's gaze lingered a little long on the gleaming longsword that Joseph had offered. On the one hand, he was a proud dwarf, and not given to accepting charity, but on the other, Harivaldr knew that this offer, while generous, was not made out of pity. If their little band failed to stop whatever (or whoever) was behind the troubles in the Northwood, a retired warrior missing his old sword was going to be the least of the townsfolk's problems. A little hesitantly, Harivaldr reached for the weapon, and said, "I'll be sure to return this when we have finished our work," then, with a smile and some very tongue-in-cheek bravado, "and when we are done in the Northwood, you'll be able to tell all who come here of Harivaldr Laurison, the last great hero to wield this blade!" He completed this declaration with a "dramatic" pose that was equal parts ridiculous and satirical.
"Well that's be a might fancy eh?" Merric examines the cloak carefully. "Joseph, do you know what's that about?" Merric passes the cloak to Dathyra...."You maybe be wanting this. Color and style be more to your look thought I know not what it's doing. Maybe's when we knows more abouts em' we can thinks about who be wearins what. I'm thinkin' I'm good with me own duds for nows."
Sen will grab the shield out of interest to see if he knows anything about it since it does look somewhat special. History: 5 Sen dons it and pulls out his whip to see how it feels. Slightly overcome by the weight, Sen slings it. "I'm no Belmont, that's for sure." Looking down at his dusty boots, Sen reconsiders a pair of snow boots. "Mighty fancy cloak," Sen will agree with Merric's statement. "Got any boots about my size back there? Or anything else that may help us?"
Dathyra turned the cloak over a few times in her hands when Merric handed it to her. After their encounter with the bounty hunters, she had been able to mend her own robes with a quick spell once they had settled in for camp, though it still had a blood stain on it from where she had been stabbed. Still, her own robes were intact and warm enough, or at least, as warm as it was going to feel for her. But she did agree with Merric's reconsideration. "True, I don't think we want anything to go to waste." She folded the cloak and placed it in her bag. "We'll save this for if we're truly in need of it."

The party assembles outside after getting snow shoes and warm clothing (if desired)
The items that you received from Joseph were +1 sword, +1 shield, +1 cloak of protection
Durven is outside and geared up. He is ready to take you up the path of the maple stream (if you want him to).
"It looks like you are ready!" He takes you back you down the road that enters town and at the bridge he veers off the road and begins hiking North along the banks of the stream.
Upon entering the deeper snow along the stream, Merric's normally pleasant demeanor quickly changes when he has to sludge through the deeper drifts or sinks into unseen low spots. Much halfling cursing and muttering ensues...
"This not be the kind o' adventurin' for anyone be holdin' their right mind in their noggin' when they be standin' under 3' tall. Should uv be picken up some o' those snow shoes when I had the chance!"
Them seeing Hari doing a great job of easily bustin through drifts and packing down a nice path, Merric subtly falls in behind the rest of the group. "Uhmm....I'll be taking the rear guard for ya' all!". Trying to stay alert, he draws his bow and keeps an arrow at the ready (enjoying the much easier going now).

If Merric puts the cloak on he notices that it will conform to his stature...

Several hours of trekking upstream and the snow has since abated. The forest seems quiet.
Merric found a solution to deal with snow on the ground. Dathyra and Sen keep up with Hari as they make their way up into the valley.
