" I didn't think there would be anything yet, I think our associates rather just wanted to get us two out from under their feet by sending us here."
" Time to head home, Kettle."
"Thank you Maykyn. That is very sad. I don't like to think about it. Better to think about happier things."
Kestrell grins at the intentional mispronunciation of his name. "Home? Should we go there, or somewhere else? let's go to the Tower and talk with Barny. He's probably missing our interactions."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Silver sighs looking at the figure as he releases the birds "Clearly not a friend." he says drawing his bow and knocking an arrow as he begins to mutter some words in undercommon casting [/spell]Faerie Fire[/spell] on the person "That should be useful for keeping our eyes on him. Hopefully he doesn't have any friends. I'll try to provide long range covered if this goes bad." he says trying to move and disappear behind whatever maybe nearby.

Selinae sighed slightly, " Ok, lets see him. Are you sure running the risk of angering a powerful mage is a great idea?"
She smiled at Maykyn, " Thank you for your service, Constable."
Selinae just chuckled and shook her head at his first statement.
" Just....well, Elon works for scum like the Zhentarim, Silver works for an evil sex-trafficking ball of eyes....Phaedra is a Harper....that sort of thing."

As you start to cast you see the humanoid figure run to a trapdoor in the roof of the temple and right before he starts to descend you see your spell take hold. As he climbs down you can see a glow coming from the trapdoor, until it's closed.
You all look around and everything else seems calm and peaceful now. What will you do?
"Hmm....seeing how you seem to know we were coming then you probably already know we are not interested in hiring you. As for information, all we require is directions to the Hornraven estate" Elon leans forward "but additional information doesn't have to be free" Elon pauses for a response and if Vassa wants to jump in.
"The name's Sunstar... Vassa Sunstar. That there is Elon... see? So you know who we are, huh? No surprise there I guess, your business being what it is and all.
Might be we can pay for what we're after, though seeing as it relates to that ugly incident this morning right outside your place of business, I figure you might want to answer a simple question or two out of a sense of community concern. Gotta protect the neighbourhood... am I right, or am I right?
More specifically, we're here to talk about a dame. A noble... you know the type. Hornraven is the family moniker. We just want to know where she lives, so we can ask her a question or three about that explosion out front. She was a witness to the whole thing, don't ya know."
The man smiles one of those "I know something you don't" smiles and says, "Perhaps you're not interested in hiring me, but perhaps you will become interested in hiring me. As for Mrs. Hornraven, I will not divulge information on her or any other client of mine for that matter. However, I can assure you that she had nothing to do with today's tragedy. She was here to hire me and simply chose a bad time to leave."
Taking a puff on his pipe, he continues,"However, I do know what caused today's explosion. It was a small magic item, or a part of one. And for the right price I'll even give you what's left of it. How does that sound to you fellows? Tell you what. Because I care for the neighborhood, rather than charging what this magic item is worth, I'll pass it over for 50 gold. And for 50 more, I'll even tell you what it does."

"Well, well, while I can appreciate your desire to protect your clients, Vincent, trying to extort gold from us using evidence from a crime that killed numerous innocent citizens of Waterdeep is, well, not very civic of you... or strictly legal, come to think of it. You see, we just finished meeting with an officer of the Watch and a mage from the Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors, and I don't think they'd look favourably on the witholding of evidence and information for personal profit in such a matter as this. Obstructing justice, or somesuch, I think that kind of thing is called. Isn't that what old Barnibus Blastwind called it, Elon?"
Vassa leans forward as he drops the hammer, still smiling though the warmth doesn't quite reach his eyes as he fixes the PI with an intense stare.

Vincent chuckles while taking another puff on his pipe. "Yes, yes. Lemi said you were a bit of a straight laced fellow. You are correct, of course, Vassa. It is highly illegal of me. But the offer is still there, should you decide to take it." Looking over to Elon, "Surely a member of the Black Network doesn't hold such strict views on legality, right?"
Taking another puff, the man looks out the window for a moment before turning back to the duo, "It's like this gentlemen. I don't claim to be a good guy, I claim to be a good detective. And I'm very good. But I have rules that I live by. The biggest is, I never work for free. As such, I can't go solve this mystery. But you can. So rather than sell this magic item and make somewhere between three and six thousand gold, I'm offering it to you for my minimum rate of 50 gold. It's up to you."

Shaking his head at his inability to catch a break lately, Vassa hops off the guy's desk and shrugs at Elon, before starting to walk towards the door.
"Compared to Lemi, everyone is sort of a straight laced fellow, so that's not saying much. I'm not above playing ball when the game is interesting, but right now I'm not interested in mincing words.
Sorry, Elon. I tried. I don't have 50 gold on me, more's the pity, so no point in hanging around here. I don't think Vincent's the sort to take tavern credit in lieu of coin."
[OOC] Unless Vincent changes his mind or Elon does something to intervene, Vassa leaves the PI's office and heads in the direction of the temple of Gond.

Feeling a little upset that Vassa gave up so easily, Elon puts his full attention on the PI with a sinister smile "Well since you know my....association and its reputation then you also know that we can make a good business partner in you career or much... the opposite" Elon waits for a response hoping that knowing the Black Network would be enough for him to reconsider. "Favor for a favor. What do you say?"

Oblivious to Elon's dissapointment, Vassa nevertheless notices his Zhent companion's attempt to intimidate Vincent into handing over the magic item. With a grim smile, the half-drow bard adds, "I think we're wasting our time, Elon. I'm sure that a tough loner like Vincent won't care at all if he finds himself short on friends with word getting around that he's dipping his fingers into this Xan vs Zhent gangwar... would you, Vinnie?"
[OOC] Bardic inspiration bonus action to give Elon a 1d6 to use on an ability check, attack roll or saving throw in the next 10 mins and help action to give him advantage on his intimidation check if the DM allows it.
