"Alright spider bridge is probably the best bet then. So is the plan to cut down the 20 ft tree secure it on this side and then try to find a 10 ft or so tree on the other side lean it over and then secure them together?"
OOC: Oh sorry - yes! Thought I'd replied but evidently not.
Dog puts all of Tock's stuff (as well as anything else loose that others don't need and are worried about losing) into the bag of holding and ties it very securely to the rope, and then he throws it across to Tock. Let me know if that requires an attack roll or athletics check.
"No one can secretly fly, can they?" Dog asks with a rueful smile. "Genny, those little goat toys you've been playing with, they can't turn into flying goats, or make us all fly, can they?" He ruffles her hair a bit. He's worried about getting her across safe. He's also starting to think about how they can keep a low profile from the hordes of heaven and hell that are searching for them, looking again at his beloved group of circus freaks. "Shall I chop down this tree, Spider-Keyrie?"
"Whenever I reach my hand in there, it's very, very dry, and my hand doesn't feel great if I take too long rooting around. We could try, but it doesn't seem like the kind of place in which someone could last that long. Also I think it's honestly pretty full -- we really need to sell those chalices, scimitars, crossbows, pots, and anything of Merxina's that we don't still want."
"I think the trees our are best bet for now, I will wait until we chop them down to turn into a spider since I can't communicate in that form, and it only lasts for an hour. I don't know how long it takes you to chop down a tree."
Dog, never wanting Tock to be able to accuse him of hating trees or picturesque views, looks around for any logs on the ground of a suitable size that could serve the purpose. (He's also nervous about the city noticing them.)
If he finds one, he drags it to the bank and tries to prop it up and then set it across the bank. Perception checks: 13, 17. Athletics checks for toting the trees to the bank, lifting it up, setting it down, etc (athletics 20, 7, 23, 13).
If he doesn't find one, he'll just sit down, look at the riverbank, and say "Welp -- I guess we just... live here now."
Before Dog asks to borrow FeyTok's axe, and chop down a tree, and try the spider bridge idea, he suggests one more thing.
"Tock, you've got those three lengths of rope I sent over earlier. Try tying your ends all securely to the tree. That solid branch that reached out to just over the river would work. Then I'll go get a tree branch and tie it to our end. Then, after tying one more length of rope to the branch and keeping it on this side, one by one, we'll hop on the branch, hold tight to the rope, and then slowly cast ourselves into the water. We'll slowly float in the current to Tock's bank, attached by two ropes to the tree. Then we use the rope on our side to pull the branch back, and try again for the next person."
He says that the only caveat is Genny, who could be tightly secured to Nev while she crossed, but it's still a risk. "It'd be awful if we got this far in protecting her only to be defeated by a river."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dog chops at a tree branch repeatedly with his sword as the light fades. It is a large one, large enough that it might carry two people at a time. Then, with three ropes, the branch, and a tree, Dog and Gash attempt the first crossing.

Gash and Doggear emerge on the other side, cold and wet but otherwise none the worse for wear. Lucien pulls the branch back to his side of the river. Then Feytok and Neventi attempt the crossing next, with Gentoa holding on to her mother on the opposite side of the branch from her.
DM Shield:
STR(4) check): 20
STR(4) check): 10
Everyone gives a sigh of relief as the golden-eyed child and her mother make it to the other side safely. Gentoa is clearly unhappy with the cold water, but is stripped of her clothing and warmed up by her mother quickly enough. Keyrie and Lucien make the final transit.

Keyrie, perhaps showing off a little, lets go of the branch when it fails to swing quickly enough and swims across without any trouble. Lucien bumps into the far bank shortly after Keyrie climbs out of the water and pulls himself up onto the shore safely. Shivering, wet, and the light now gone, the party looks to the city, a mile distant.
"Well that wasn't pretty, but we made it across. That was both arduous and dramatic -- perfect for us circus freaks. FeyTok, I completely forgot to ask you for your axe to chop off that tree branch, I don't know what I was thinking!"
Dog asks FeyTok to help him light a small fire, positioning the tree they'd been using between it and the city. (If FeyTok can't, he uses a tinderbox to do it.) There are bedrolls and changes of clothes in the bag of holding. Hopefully everyone can warm up and rest a bit now the crossing's done.
"Now, we could try to go into the city tonight, and find some hopefully safe lodging, and eat some food that we didn't have to catch, and possibly get spotted by whoever's looking for us there. Or we could stay out here another night, away from the prying eyes in the city, but out in the open for others in the country. Is it better to enter the city in daylight with the crowds?"
He looks at Tock. "Whatever we do, Tock, I was wondering if you might help us fix up some costumes for each of us to try to help us hide a bit from angels, demons, and, well, druids or zombies or whoever directed us to Merxina's carvern of wonders and horrors? A genasi, bugbear, goblin, tiefling, kenku, and goliath all traveling with a human mother with a strikingly gorgeous child like Genny can't help but stick out. Think there's anything we can do to pretend we're something else? I might be hopeless here but the rest of you could try to pass as something you're not. That might buy us some safety and time to gather intelligence, sell a bunch of things we don't need, reprovision, and figure out what we're doing."
He pauses his absentminded game of keepaway he's been playing with Genny, trying to make her laugh and jump and warm up a bit after the cold river.
"Nev, have you thought more about your choice of what you want to do? Short and long term?"

"I don't see a better option. "
(I'd love to try the bag-of-holding option, but Dog hasn't responded yet..)

No roll necessary. It is an easy toss across the river and the rope ensures any mishaps can be corrected.

Tock suits up once more and then becomes thoughtful. "Hey, Dog, can a person fit in here?"

Tock tries one last idea, "Should I go ask for some help from the city while we destroy their riverside view?"

"Did I ever mention to any one that I don't like water? In my country is all desert, only water is small oasis. I don't know how to swim."
Before Dog asks to borrow FeyTok's axe, and chop down a tree, and try the spider bridge idea, he suggests one more thing.

Gash tries to conjure a large coil of rope. “Will this work?” (I’ll let the dm decide how much rope I could conjure?)
“maybe Friend can take an end and fly around that tree and come back”
Gash - Lvl14 Goblin Wizard - The High Court of the Aasimar Queen
"Yes perhaps Friend can help Tock tie the rope to the tree securely. And more rope wouldn't be a bad thing!"
Gash can conjure 100 feet of silken rope or 50 feet of hempen rope.
Tock agrees to the floating log plan and makes whatever is required of him.
Dog does the same!
