Dog pulls out the accord draft, thinks back at their initial takeaways, then their subsequent conclusions, and parses through it again. (We're in a private room right? Has anyone recognized us as we have been through the city? No official inquiries?)
"So we have a year from the day we brought Genny back to Nev before they can intervene. That intervention is to have the heavens and hells appoint someone to work with Passalwyck to appoint a Steward. The Accords are pretty light on details of what the Protectors do and who we are. All they say about stewards is: These Accords shall end once the Child is accepted by a Steward, which has knowingly agreed to raise the child, has the ability to protect the child, and has been deemed a worthy steward by the Adjudicator. Aucasia of Vallas and King Haddian of Alciondria are both examples of possible stewards. Upon the conclusion of the Accords, both parties agree to the chosen Steward to which the child is Ultimately entrusted in perpetuity. No further action will be taken to claim the Child, transfer her to a new Steward, or challenge the final ruling of the Adjudicator once the Accords have concluded."
He pauses, sipping some beer from his pint, seeing if anyone else has gleaned anything more from the notes and the maps spread out on the table before them. He'll play with Genny a bit, using prestidigitation to try to toy with her, trying to make bubbles appear on his bald head in an imitation of what she did in that crowd.
"Also, Nev, this is entirely up to you. Says so right here in this letter we stole from the hells where they insist that only you can decide the patron that will conclude the accords. So no one can force anything on you. King Haddian has to make his pitch to you and you get to say yes or no. He's supposed to be a powerful mage, right? Do we need to make sure he's not mind-controlled? I assume he's powerful enough to defend against that kind of thing but we've all seen enough to be wary. Gash can break curses if we see a Sad Amulet or something on him but you might wish to demand some magical delving and screening."
He waits to see if Gash has heard anything from his Sending to the king. After having spoken so much, he looks at Martin and grins.
"I've talked enough. Was just hoping to review all this complicated stuff for everyone's benefit. Gash, did you ask where the king is? We don't know where he is now -- we can travel on the road to Pallaxus to see if he's there as we've heard. That's our goal, right? To find him? Not make an inquiry at the palace. I think we're due for some more time on the Long Road."
Gash sighs loudly as he prepares to cast sending again.
"We are at Alciondira already. Could you provide us any royal assistance to meet you there or shall we wait here? Thank you, your royalness."
Gash turns to the others and says, "He told us to meet him there... but I figured we should see if we can get some royal accompanyment or maybe we can relax for once."

Gash- Lvl14 Goblin Wizard - The High Court of the Aasimar Queen
Gash sighs loudly as he prepares to cast sending again.
"We are at Alciondira already. Could you provide us any royal assistance to meet you there or shall we wait here? Thank you, your royalness."
Gash turns to the others and says, "He told us to meet him there... but I figured we should see if we can get some royal accompanyment or maybe we can relax for once."
Gash:
"I must take all manner of caution on this matter. Without assurances of who you are, leaving Pallaxus would be incautious. Come to Pallaxus."
He waits to see if Gash has heard anything from his Sending to the king. After having spoken so much, he looks at Martin and grins.

Martin starts to shake a bit as the speech goes on, pretending to have a seizure.
Tocksays, "We are departing this afternoon. What would you suggest is the best way to reach Pallaxus this time of the year? By best I mean to ask if someone had unlimited funds and would like to avoid all trouble while enjoying all the comforts."

"Pallaxus?" says the clerk, eyes wide. "Perhaps I should have tried to charge more for the room." He laughs awkwardly at his own joke. "The safest, most comfortable way to travel is on the King's Road via carriage. The upper crust all own their plush carriages but such amenities are available for sale or rent."
This is not the first time the party has heard reference to the King's Road. They know it to be another name for the Long Road and mainly used here in the capital.
Tockmutters to the others, "I was hoping to learn about teleportation circles or a balloon ride or something like that. But a plush carriage sounds good too."
After thinking a bit, "Should we go and find a travel agent who would organize all of this for us like today? I don't like the idea of sleeping in a tent for a month. There's probably inns and horse exchanges and other things along the road if paced correctly, given enough resources."
"Does it matter if we're traveling to Palaxus from here or should we go to Codo to approach the way we're expected to approach? My instinct is to come from here, rather than Codo, because if there are traps in our way, they are more likely to be between Palaxus and Codo, or at least facing East. Anything the Hells set up has to have been planned before the Accords went into effect, so staying unpredictable will at least slow them down. Maybe we'll miss a coven of vampires in Codo."
Does Nev have any objections to or thoughts about these plans? Dog takes a look at their stores of supplies and food and travel wares to make sure they're well stocked up. I'm assuming we can do any more shopping offline before we leave? Dog would probably, before heading out, stop by a shop that sells spell scrolls to see if there's something that could help there.
"I'm fine getting a carriage if you want, Tock. Defer to you on that."
Tock would go and find a proper large carriage, pay for it to be prepared, pre-pay for the rent for a trip to Pallaxus and get back to the party to let them know where to go with the horses.

Dog et al. saw it from the outside but that was it.
Tock says once again, "Lets put on the table what we know about the accords and what the process should be for choosing. Then lets act accordingly."

(When we advance to the following day Gash will send this message to the king via sending)
"Hello, I am a Protector of The Mother and Child. They have made their decision. Would like to meet as soon as possible. Please Respond."

(its possible, even likely that it is. just covering my bases.)

Palaxus is back at the crossroads of the offshoot to where Aucasia is and the Long Road. Think we have an item that would teleport us closer, right?
Yes. Not to your knowledge. No.
Yep!
Codo could be slightly closer but it is a bit of a trek either way.
Gash:
"If you truly are, that is wonderful to hear. I await your arrival in Pallaxus."
Gash sighs loudly as he prepares to cast sending again.

(FYI: Gash never went and found a portrait of the king. He should have! So I will...this time...assume he did.)
"Pack up everyone, we're going to Pallaxus."
(thanks MD, I just assumed we would have done that beforehand -- bless you for rarely punishing us)

"Sirs," says the clerk for the inn. "Will you be departing this afternoon or staying another night?"
