Dog assists FeyTok in trying to clear the rubble and see if they can find and sooth the child. "FeyTok Fiendsbane," he says, with a look at the raging barbarian's axe.
He briefly introduces himself and his companions to the guard captain in as few words as possible, with a consoling look for the fallen guards. Insight check on the captain and new guards to see if they seem to mean well/know more than they should: 13
Dog also runs over to Tyrol and helps him stand up after he revives. "Mr. Greyshank, your shield saved my life twice. Thank you! Are you okay?"
Tock does not interfere with the clearing of rubble, people much stronger than him are at work. He will instead recover some of his arrows and go through all the corpses of the enemies. At each he will gather whatever seems valuable, then take one of his daggers and poke out their eyes. The innocent voice of a young child says,"Hi" as he slides the tip of the dagger into one eye and pulls it out. A raspy voice of an ancient woman is heard calmly saying "bye" as he does the same with the second eyeball. Each time he continues on as if nothing special had happened.
After he's done he dumps all he gathered to the ground in the middle and goes to keep watch towards the south.
Tyrol holds his aching head with one hand as Dog takes his other arm and helps him up. "Ugh... I think... think I'm fine as I can be for now, thanks," he mumbles, blinking a few times to clear his still-swimming vision. "As long as you and Keyrie are okay... and the... the child... did someone get that child away from those imps?" He tries to crane his neck in the direction of the house and discern what's going on.
The dwarf guard captain introduces himself as Barbadan Orebreaker as he helps uncover the trapped child. His archers dismount and take care of their fallen brethren, departing back towards the center of town. "I would be dead, no doubt, if you had not shown up when you did and put yourselves in harm's way when you did," he says. "I admit, you are a curious lot. A genasi, a minotaur, a goliath, a firbolg, and a kenku. How do you find yourselves in Marctenus?"
Upon hearing their tale, the dwarf finds himself frowning. "I didn't know you all were packing up to leave so soon. I had not the chance to come out and see your wonders. I am sorry to hear that you did not leave sooner but I am also glad you are here. So will beGentoa, once we make it to her. She is the prize of our village..."
Shortly after this, they uncover a large section of intact wall, freeing a young girl, somewhere between 1 and 2 years old. Her skin is a golden color, darker even than her platinum blonde hair. Some of this color is from dirt and tear-infused mud running down her cheeks. She looks up at Barbadan with wet, golden eyes. "Oh,Genny," he says, picking her up. "I am so glad you are not hurt. Is your mother in there with you?"
He peers into the dark void of the collapsed house. "We'll get her out, child."
When Dog and Tyrol retrieve the woman, they find she is alive, but unconscious. She also bears little resemblance to her daughter. She has dark hair and fair skin, although it is obvious there are some facial features that they share.
"Thank the gods she is alive," Barbadan says, squeezing Gentoa.
"Mama!" the little girl says.
"She'll be okay...oh," the dwarf says, looking out into the night. "It seems your unicorn friend is watching us from afar. Fear not, the girl is safe!"
Galacea trots closer, clearly in awe of the child in the dwarf's arms. The feeling appears to be mutual as Gentoa stops fussing and reaches to pet the unicorn's muzzle.
"I'll be an ogre's uncle," Barbadan mutters. "The world has gone topsy turvy."
Keyrie relays a message from the unicorn. "Meeting the child is a great honor. Galacea cannot stay, though. It could already be construed as interference for just meeting the child. The celestial forces have secured the perimeter for now. We should get some rest and then decide what to do in the morning."
"We'll hole up in the town hall," the dwarf says. "It is the most secure building we have."
Keyrie says, "She tells us we have done well. We should be proud." The unicorn nuzzles against the hand of the child once more and then turns and gallops into the night.
"Neigh-neigh!" the child says, reaching out.
"Come," the dwarf says. "If what the...I can't believe I am saying this...unicorn says is true, we should get some rest and a meal. It is the least we can do for you, strangers."
The group is able to finally relax once they reach the town hall, where cots are being set up and townsfolk have come to pay respects to the aasimar child, who falls asleep quickly thereafter. Each of the circus troop finds a cot and falls fast asleep themselves before too long as well. The day has ended but the road ahead will prove to be a long one.
(End of Chapter 1. All characters are now level 2! Take maximum possible health when you level up as well as a long rest. For your next post, the town the next day is quiet, but busy in cleaning up after the attack. Stores are open. You should be able to buy most basic gear here, including armor and weapons. If you are interested in magic items, let me know of what type, armor, weapons, or utility items, and I will provide a list of what is available.)
1 chain shirt (50gp), which I'll infuse with my new Enhanced Defense infusion to make it +1
1 light hammer (2gp), which I'll infuse with my new Returning Weapon infusion to make it a returning light hammer
1 dagger (2gp)
20 crossbow bolts (1gp)
Then I'll sell my club for 5cp, and my leather armor for 5gp unless someone here wants it, in which case they're welcome to it.
Also, would it be possible to collect some of my spent bolts? I had 11 going into this encounter and have 7 now, so if you use the standard rules for retrieving ammo I think I'd get 2 bolts back? Let me know if that's not how you'd prefer to handle ammo; I won't add it until you've decided.
Let me know if I need to adjust anything! Will RP more of this properly in a bit, when I don't have something else to get to; just wanted to make sure I remembered to declare what I was doing, haha.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Yes, you can collect half of your spent ammunition as a rule.
Here's the rules on selling. I will roll a d12 for each item you would like to sell. The following chart will dictate how much is offered for your items:
1: Buyer not interested
2-4: Buyer will pay 75% of market value
5-7: Buyer will pay 90% of market value
8-11: Buyer will pay 100% of market value
12: Buyer will pay 115% of market value
So for Tyrol's items, he is offered (11, 2) nothing for the club and 5gp for the armor.
Dog will buy the final healing potion and eyes the clockwork amulet but doesn't have the money for it. He'll attempt to trade/sell his shield for a real shield that's in better shape (in case you'd prefer we roll: 4). If there is a cheap breastplate that fits him he will try to bargain for it.
He makes a joke about the uses of the castoff leather armor, and also offers to put some of his money (70 gp left after the potion) into a communal pool to get the broom of flying because he thinks that seems amazing and the party should think about adding flight to its abilities.
Dog also makes personal visits and checks with each of his friends to see how they are faring after their awful and crazy day. He tries to engage Barbadan in conversation, swapping stories about his mercenary days guarding various merchant and trading ventures, and getting a lay of the land. He'll be particularly interested in Gentoa's story, and also Barbadan's plans for today.
Keyrie will try to trade her club for sling 10, if the shopkeeper won't agree to the trade she will use her money to make up the difference. She will also try and trade her leather armor for hide in the same way 3. She is then going to try and find as many pebbles/small stones as possible to fill her pouch. She will also buy moon touched sword, scimitar (Is it a sword or a scimitar?)
Keyrie will chat with Dog about how far out of her comfort zone all of this makes her, and although the town is nice all the people are making her uncomfortable.
She will also put 80 gold in the group pot to get something more expensive like the broom.
Tock would try to sell everything that he gathered from the corpses of the attackers (if there was anything at all)
Tockwould then like to borrow some money from someone, 80 gold to be precise. He would like to invest all of his own money and the loan in the Light Crossbow +1. If that happens then he would sell his shortbow and would also like to trade all of his arrows for crossbow bolts. And then possibly buy a few more sets, up to 100 bolts total (and possibly 5 "Case, crossbow bolt" as well if needed).

Feytok will loan 80 gold.
Tockbows deeply and gives Feytok an apple that he produced from behind of his ear.
The shopkeeper will give Dog 7 gold, 5 silver for his old shield or trade him for a new one if he chips in 2 gold and 5 silver. If he sells his chain shirt, he is offered (8) 50 gp for it.
Keyrie - The shopkeep is not interested in your club but a sling is only 1 silver. He is very interested in your leather armor, though, offering 12 gold for it. The hide armor is 10 gold to purchase.
Tock found nothing on the fiends, unfortunately. He can trade the arrows one for one for bolts. The shortbow he can sell for (6) nothing. The shopkeeper is unimpressed with the quality of the bow and he has a bunch already for sale. Bolts are 1 gp per 20 bolts.
Barbadan finds Feytok wandering around the town and asks him to collect his friends and meet him at the town hall. When the last of them arrive, they find Gentoa snuggling in the lap of her mother, who is awake. She looks much less helpless and pathetic awake, fed, and cleaned up. There is a figurative fire in her eyes that suggests a strength of will that was not obvious while she was unconscious.
"Friends of Marcentus, this is Neventi Drahm, honored mother of the aasimar child Gentoa, blessed by the touch of Milil, god of music and poetry," Barbadan says with a deep bow and great reverence in his voice.
"Stop, Bar," Neventi says with some force to her voice.
Barbadan's eyes twinkle with a mischievous grin. "I've always wanted to do that, Nev."
"You do that at the morning market every ten-day," she says, wrinkling her nose as he laughs. She turns to the circus troop. "Thank you, strangers. Thank you."
Her eyes well up with tears. She composes herself and continues. "You have given much but I have to ask you for another favor. I hope it is an easy one and no trouble, but after the fiends last night... Anyway, there is an army camp 20 miles to the south. They have been extending the Mage King's road all the way to Marctenus."
"It should have gone east around the mountains," Barbadan growls.
"Shush, Bar. It will be good for the town. You'll see," she says, then continues. "If you are willing, we would accept your escort to the camp. They will offer us better protection and draw the threat away from our town."
"Nev," Barbadan says. "I would still you rather stayed."
"Bar, we discussed this enough. This is the best course of action."
Barbadan nods.
Nev strokes her daughter's hair lovingly and looks at each of the circus troop in turn. "What say you? Can you give just a little more?"

Now what I'd like to look into is my AC. I don't know if a cloak of protection would be available here?
And on a long shot, totally understand if it a flat no, since we're asking..gauntlets of ogre power?
Let me know what to add or subtract as far as items and coin.
Healing potions are 50 gp each at the Road's End Curios shop.
The daggers are 2 gp each at the Bow and Blade. The magic items that are available there are as follows:
At the Aegis of Leyleaf, there is a limited selection of items:
Just the potions and daggers then.
The Road's End Curios shop also has:
Edit: This magic shop also has only 6 potions of healing, of which 4 have been purchased.
