Kali laughs as she takes a seat on Carrhae’s bed. “Potent but I need double the stuff for anything to take proper effect,” She points to the pipe. “Even that.” Followed by a shrug. “‘Tis a curse of blue skin.” She waits for the blonde light up the pipe and take her hit before beckoning for the pipe next, pausing a second. “Sounds like the little runt is already takin’ care of your boots,” She finally takes an inhale from the pipe, exhaling the smoke from her nose, similar to that of a dragon. “Wanna play a little prank on ‘im? Pretend we’re doin’ some naughty shit when he comes back, see if he pokes his little head in to get a peek.”

Carrhae smiles and laughs, passing the pipe to Kali after taking a hit and putting in some extra for her. "Sure thing, sounds like it'll be fun." She waits a few moments for the sound of Sloop returning to deposit her boots at the door. "Ohhhh Kali." Carrhae moans out. "Is this what you do with your housewives?"

Bein’ a captain is tough shit and you need ways to wind down.” She wiggles the pipe between her fingers. “This always helped me. Misha had called Carrhae into the briefing room of the Belle of the Sea to go over the details on the mission early in the morning. This particular time, she wasn't laughing, but had a slight smile on her face. She was focused, and this was important. On the briefing room table, she had documents and a map or two out, and began to debrief her captain.
SALTMARSH A History of the Town
Through the glory of Acheronian Intelligence, Misha had been honored with pre-mission information to disclose to her Captain. They sat down as Misha spoke carefully, and she pointed to the maps as she relayed the information.
Saltmarsh is a nondescript fishing village tucked away on the southern coast of the Kingdom of Keoland. For several generations, Keoland was a formidable military power. Its superior cavalry and bold knights pushed the kingdom’s borders outward to the north, west, and east. Each successful campaign increased both the crown’s wealth and power, and each one in turn drew the kingdom’s attention even farther north. The southern coastal regions of Keoland remained a backwater. The crown’s benign neglect allowed piracy and banditry to flourish. Saltmarsh and similar towns kept to fishing, content to maintain a low profile and avoid governmental entanglements. Decades ago, the pirates who prowled the waters off Saltmarsh grew strong enough to create their own realm, a loose confederacy known as the Hold of the Sea Princes. With the rise of that nation came increased raids on Saltmarsh and its neighbors. The Sea Princes’ raiding ships pillaged the coast for more slaves to support their growing realm, and Saltmarsh suffered heavily. The memories of those times loom heavily over the area, and the locals’ hatred of the Sea Princes runs deep.
In time, Keoland’s victories in the north gave way to a string of defeats in which its neighbors pushed the kingdom back to its original boundaries. With the world closing in, King Kimbertos Skotti looked to the south and saw unchecked banditry and a rising pirate nation. The crown struck peace treaties with its former foes to the north, raised a navy, and dealt a sharp check to the ambitions of the Sea Princes — but the conflict is by no means over. King Skotti has decreed that the pirates must be put down, the sea lanes secured, and trade cultivated. If Keoland cannot prosper as a military force, it must grow mightier as a center of trade. Saltmarsh, remote though it might be from the center of power in Keoland, is entering a new phase of its life as it reacts to the king’s plans. The crown’s agents want to expand the village’s port and make it a prime location for trade with the world beyond. In another recent development, a band of dwarves — bearing a decree from the king himself — have arrived and begun to excavate the hills and seaside cliffs near town, looking for precious metals. If their work bears fruit as expected, the mine stands to become a major factor in the village’s — and, indeed, the entire region’s — prosperity.
Naturally, not all of Saltmarsh’s residents feel the same way about the recent developments in and around their community, which is the key issue that affects their lives and livelihood. Although the recent changes stand to bring new prosperity to the area, many locals don’t want to see their home changed. At the same time, as an undercurrent through all the goings-on, agents of the secretive and mysterious Scarlet Brotherhood work to thwart Keoland’s ambitions while advancing their own.
THREE FACTIONS Politics of Saltmarsh
Misha paused to see if Carrhae had any questions. Then, she continued.
Saltmarsh’s future rests in the hands of three factions that compete for supremacy. Two of the factions represent the opposing sentiments that have grown in town in recent years. The third is a secret group that seeks to undermine Saltmarsh and seize control of the region.
The Traditionalists - The traditionalist faction is an alliance of the prominent fishing families and merchants in town, along with the workers who rely on those industries for a living. The traditionalists remember the terrible times during the Sea Princes’ raids and have no desire to see the crown’s ambitions lead to open war. The smugglers who operate in the area tend to be traditionalists. Most pose as merchants and rely on their local contacts to move goods through the region without interference from the town guard or royal agents. Smuggling has long been an easy way to make money in Saltmarsh, and locals generally look the other way, seeing it as a victimless crime. The traditionalists simply want things to remain the same. If they had their way, the dwarves would go home, the guard would stick to dealing with monsters rather than hassling honest traders, and the crown would go back to dreaming of conquests in the north. The more things change, the more this faction resorts to open protest and resistance.
The Loyalist - The loyalists consist of newcomers who arrived from the northern reaches of Keoland, loyal to King Kimbertos Skotti. They feel that the town should focus on becoming a useful asset to the crown and value the good of the kingdom before the good of the region. The town guard, the dwarves, and the local farmers are generally loyalists. The loyalists care about security. They want to keep Keoland’s enemies at bay while ensuring law and order. They see smuggling as a key problem, as it enriches the Sea Princes at the cost of the royal treasury and the efforts of honest merchants. Above all else, the members of this faction put their faith in law. They exert influence through the town guard, though they remain within their legal authority. The loyalists are focused on two things: ensuring that the dwarven mine is a success, and clamping down on smuggling to keep the Sea Princes in check. The mine is the most precious commodity in the region for this faction, and its members do everything they can to support it. If word of any Sea Prince activity reaches the loyalists, they are quick to meet the threat.
Then, Misha pauses again. As she gets to the third faction, she becomes a tad more serious. She is about to explain the reason she is here.
The Scarlet Brotherhood - The Scarlet Brotherhood claims that the bloodline of its followers traces back to an ancient empire spawned from the depths of Hell, the Suel Imperium. Their goal is to restore the old Suloise noble houses to prominence in the world. As scions of a realm that once enjoyed unmatched arcane power and a vast dominion, its members see themselves as superior to all other folk and the only ones fit to rule. For decades, this group has been concocting a conspiracy to spread fear, chaos, and uncertainty across the land. When the time is right, the Brotherhood will strike to seize the reins in kingdoms all across the world. Already its hellish operatives have slain those who might oppose their sinister plans, including a Prime Paladin from Acheron. In almost every court in the land, from the most remote backwater barony to the imperial courts of world powers, the Brotherhood’s agents have quietly assumed positions of influence. The Scarlet Brotherhood is an opportunistic faction. It seeks to cause the maximum amount of disruption with the least amount of risk.Unlike the other factions in Saltmarsh, there is no good side to the Scarlet Brotherhood. As unrepentant megalomaniacs from the depths of Hell, they are villains through and through.
WHAT PART DO WE PLAY? How do we fit in all this?
Our primary objective: our mission is to travel to Saltmarsh and stop the Suel Imperium from taking over the town, and eventually the rest of the continent. Bane has foresaw a future can cannot come to pass - if left unchecked, the Scarlet Brotherhood's influence and destruction will take over and another world will be claimed in the name of Asmodeus - our mortal enemy. This is why Misha is here. They must be stopped - but..she cannot do it alone. We will sail to this town immediately.
Our secondary objective: We simply cannot face the Scarlet Brotherhood with might on our own terms. We must win the respect of the town first by earning their admiration, favor, and gaining good standing and solid reputation by investigating their problems, successfully finishing quests, and eventually drawing out the Scarlet Brotherhood. This is why Carrhae is a Chosen of Bane. You know this world, can lead your team, and have the strength of Will, Honor, and Glory to be successful. Bane knows of your failure at Feathergale Spire. You have been given another chance to save the world. Do not disappoint the Lord of War.
Thus begins the first step in our journey..the beginning of the adventure:
"Yes, a few days ago. He gave me some response about him trying to solve the arcane mysteries of it. I'll see if he's made any progress with it tomorrow." She sighs. "Unfortunately, the gods did not give me a mind for the arcane. Sometimes, people would joke that the gods took a little bit from up here to give me something extra down here." She says, pointing to her boobs. As she takes another puff, she shoots Kali a quizzical look. "What's got you thinking of him anyway?"
Later:
Carrhae listens intently as Misha gives her the parameters of the mission. She gathers the rest of the crew together, telling them about the adventure in Saltmarsh, how they can perform jobs to win money and fame with the people of Saltmarsh, and possibly take down a conspiracy to conquer the world in the name of Suel. If/when the crew asks why they should stick their necks out, she says that an evil house that worships Asmodeus wouldn't be even less tolerant of a band of seafaring pirates than the normal authorities of Toril would and if that fails, she brings up that a group composed of the descendants of Suloise nobles that had managed to worm their way into political power would be carrying a significant amount of treasure. Once she had managed to allay her crew's concerns, she tells Misha to lift the anchor and has Chandor set sail for Saltmarsh.
Then Carrhae hoped that Chef Indigo would have breakfast ready soon, as smoking with Kali had left her feeling rather hungry.
DISCLAIMER: AFTER BATTLING DRAGONS, ELEMENTAL CULTISTS, VAMPIRES, DEMONS, AND GIANTS, YOU DESERVE A RELAXING OCEAN CRUISE. PLEASE KEEP ALL VITAL LIMBS WELL WITHIN THE SHIP’S CONFINES. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR VALUABLES, HIT POINTS, OR LIVES LOST DURING YOUR VOYAGE. IN FACT, PERHAPS YOU’D PREFER A MORE RELAXING VACATION OPTION. CAN WE SUGGEST A TRIP TO THE NINE HELLS? THEY’RE QUITE BALMY THIS TIME OF YEAR.
Sloop is impatiently pacing back and forth outside of the briefing room, eager to hear the news of their upcoming mission. Periodically resting his ear on the door, trying to hear what’s being said inside, to no avail. A crowd is gathering outside as well, as the rest of the crew starts hearing rumors of what’s to come.
“Dude’s ****in’ weird,” She says dryly, but quickly follows it up with a light laugh. “He just gives me... off vibes. Same with his friend, don’t know if that guy is even alive or not.” She waves her hand in the air to clear out some of the smoke that’s gathered in the room. “You meet very interesting people on the seas, so he isn’t the worst, then again I only had to deal with people like him for a few hours at most. This time I’m on a ship with ‘em.” Kali sinks herself into the bed further. She lets a silence settle between the two of them before piping up again.
“I ought to get out of here before I find myself sleepin’ in your bed,” With a gentle chuckle she sits herself up on the bed. “We got a big day tomorrow, captain. Try not to get too carried away with that,” She points to the pipe. “You’ll work up a hunger ‘n I don’t think the chef would wanna see you pokin’ your nose in her pantry for a nighttime snack.” The barbarian gives her a grin before turning and heading for the door. “Have yourself a goodnight Carrhae.”
Later:
When day came and Carrhae was briefing with Misha, Kali stayed in bed just for a little longer until it was time for the rest of the crew to know what exactly they were getting themselves into. The brunette had nothing to say and at most would give looks to the other crew members to see if they had any objections or questions regarding the mission itself, half expecting someone to say something. Whether it came or not didn’t matter too much to the first mate, all she was hoping for was some food after this.

Wolf had spent a lot of time alone working on his brew. Getting up the next day he joins the crew for the morning debrief not really having a lot of questions onces its been reassured that there will be alchol during the trip and adventures. Plus it gets him away from the Xanathar gang and he already knows how much bad can come from a cult ruiling an area. So with his hands behind his back and Misha not telling him the ship needed any repairs, Wolf prepares to relax and enjoy the trip so far, maybe butter up to the chef some.
Carrhae had never openly voiced her difficulties with trusting Grishkar, but she didn't need to. He didn't exactly give off the appearance of a friendly doctor and he wasn't exactly someone who was friendlier than he looked. "Admittedly, Grishkar can be a little...off-putting. That's why I made sure to buy some potions this morning and why I gave some to you and Kali. And I can also do a little bit of healing myself." When Kali departs, Carrhae wishes her a goodnight before snuffing her pipe and going to bed.
Grishkar breezes into the briefing roof, hands folded within the sleeves of his robe. He listens intently, though seemingly distracted the whole way by one thing or another. Upon detailing the factions of the area, he raises a finger for attention, "Like as not, things change, times come and go. Since the king focuses on trade and dominion, it would behoove us to entreat the local merchants of the value for trade. Some stick to old ways, but they should be made aware that such things only change in form, but not function."

Sana listens, her smile widening as she hears about the area. She doesn't ask any questions, instead listening intently to everyone else, her eyes flashing gold every now and then.
Looking toward the docks one last time, Chandor lets out a sigh, grabbing his charts and maps and begins plotting a course to Saltmarsh. Once done, he delivers it to Misha. “Best we move while the seas are calm. I think we'd all rather not get caught on a stormy sea with pirates abound.”
Erriviel stands at one end of the table, listening intently as Carrhae briefs the officers. I certainly did not sign up for this, but if it helps me find... bah. I'll see it through.
When Grishkar speaks, he nods but then replies, "The power of the king may be mighty indeed, but who can say how much it is felt this far from his home? Smugglers and other people on the, shall we say, 'wrong' side of the law, often have a better feel for the pulse of the area, and may have knowledge essential to our mission. We," he pauses as he looks around the room, "have strength in spades, it is knowledge that we need."
"Agreed, my new friend." Misha nods to Chandor, looking over the maps. "Would be sad eef journey ended before it began." Misha leans over the maps and points out where Saltmarsh is. From the map, it is located on a southern coast between Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate.
"Kapitan!" Misha calls out from the deck. "At your command, we are ready to depart."
Chandor: Once Carrhae has given the word, to navigate correctly to Saltmarsh, you'll need to make an easy navigation check. DC5 Wisdom (Survival).
You guys can role-play, making final checks if you wish before we shove off at lunchtime.
Crew Quality: 4 (Remember: bad things cause this to lower. Try not to get lower than 0)

Awaiting the captain's order, Chandor paces the deck, checking the sightline of the shoreline and comparing it to the track of the sun. He avoids looking out at the vast sea, preferring to check and re-check his calculations. "So it begins..." he mutters to himself, rubbing the scars on his wrists and hands.

Earlier:

Kip Dalton: Human Lore Bard (Waterdeep Dragon Heist)

"Course plotted, Kapitan." Misha reports to Kali and Carrhae. It will be very unlikely of a random encounter now at sea. Good job, Chandor.
Wizards ****ed up and the maps are not loading in the online book, so I hope they fix that soon.
Update: Just kidding. They fixed it. Updating.
