What the Folk? Round 5 or something.
While Absinthe and Dirk don't accomplish much with their flailing and intimidation, Dirk does get some magic laced into his words. WIS Save: 9 Unfortunately, it falls on deaf ears.
Gearbox has run out of javelins and shrugs. He looks up to Garrett for some direction but is offered none. He takes the dodge action.
The ship stays on course and Miggetter yells, "We've almost got them! Keep at it! Help the men on the side of the ship!"
The Mangonels, already aimed at #5 and 6, lob their large rocks at the underwater guard-thieves. #5: Attack: 13 Damage: 23 #6: Attack: 17 Damage: 25 Both 5 and 6 are slammed with giant stones and burst in a cloud of red, despite being harder to hit below the surface. Only Merrow #2 remains.
Mary moves her Hex to #2 and tries to hit with her long-range Eldritch Blast x2. Attack: 12 Damage: 3 / Attack: 9 Damage: 3 Focusing her energy, she burns a hole right through the creature. It lists away from the ship... and down.
COMBAT IS OVER!
You assist the guards that went overboard in getting back on the ship. The injured are taken below deck to rest and recuperate. Garrett brings Gearbox down to assist while Mary sits back down and shuffles her deck of cards some more. Miggetter sighs and gathers his crew to say some words honoring the passing of the guards that went below in an attempt to keep morale up. He notes that you're still a few days out from the next port, but should be good to continue as far as supplies are concerned. He mentions he would understand if any of the crew didn't want to continue sailing after going through an event like that, and that he would be hiring more crew members to fill the unfortunate new openings. A couple of the crew seem traumatized, especially the ones pulled over and rescued. some of them seem to have been good friends with ones that are no longer among the living.
You managed to kill 9 of the 18 Merrow, netting a substantial amount of XP for the party. However, since you received a lot of help taking them down, you technically "split" the XP with whoever helped. For the sake of ease, I'm just going to say the party gets half XP, which is still a decent 405 XP for each of you. Grats!
Is there anything you'd like to do right now? It's midday on your second day of travel, you have 3 full days and another few hours before you're docked in Baldur's Gate. Good time for an RP break...
Fjolnir makes a few passing jokes to try to comfort the Guards. "Whale of a good show, lad!" clapping one of their shoulders, who so recently had been harpooned. "Cap?.." he asks Miggetter, "any damage you need us to mend? I can join a rope or re-pitch decking if need?"
Once combat is over Az Emberi looses his focus and falls down again. Swearing loudly he goes about the ship helping where he can and sticking close to Fjolnir as he obviously knows hat he's doing.
Fjolnir does well to keep morale afloat, so to speak, despite the loss of crew. Miggetter replies, "Looks like those cursed things were only after bodies and didn't hit the ship. We're fine, ye can all relax until something else happens."
Az Emberi assists in healing the survivors that need it.
Unsurprisingly, Absinthe finds that most of the crew is interested in ale.
Dirk and Dustfinger laze about, and the rest of the day passes.
Night brings a calm on the sea that you haven't felt yet this journey, and combined with the exhaustion from the harrowing encounter you survived earlier in the day, you easily sleep through the night. Nothing disturbs the vessel, and the crew on watch at night report that it felt like the whole sea was asleep. Everyone receives the benefits of a long rest.
Fjolnir leans up against the gunwale near Garret, and close earshot to Mary, and asks them both, "...eh, so let's suppose we pass the Shining Sea, and disembark at whatever passes for a port out there... what kind of territory are we looking at to these mountains? Is there any kind of general direction even?"
Mary says as blandly as humanly possible, "It's humid, often rainy, hotter than some areas of the nine hells, and yet somehow still not completely a marsh." (It's Florida, basically, with bigger fauna.)
"Yes, and it's flat. Good for cattle, also criminals. (Also FL) I know the path from the foothills up until the caverns that lead to the lab. Once we get there-"
"Once we get there, my skills as a diviner will come into play and help us through the maze of tunnels that the last expedition didn't get past. After that who knows what we'll find."
"Indeed, The Barrier Peaks have long been damned, ever since a craft of some kind crashed there ages ago. A ship that could navigate the very planes, it was. Things that should not exist escaped from its hold and now populate the mountains."
"Sodramatic."Mary rolls her eyes and shuffles her cards again. The cat does figure 8's around her ankles.

Az Emberi hears something above the calmer than normal waves. Actually several somethings, making a sound like metal striking wood. It's coming from overboard, on the outside of the hull.
Az Emberi and everyone else please pick a spot you want to be on the ship. Az is the only one among you, along with some crew members, not surprised and will be able to act and react in the 1st round. Brace yourselves lads, this is going to hurt.

Az notices that a few others aboard notice the faint sound as well. The guards are first to act among those of you that's ears perked up. Several of them peek overboard... "Sahuagin!" One of them yells. A bloodcurdling warcry is heard from over the side of the boat that sounds like an angry, gurgling scream. No one understands the language, if it is in fact a language, and the guards start stabbing downward with their spears, as the fish-people try to board the ship.
(Letting all of you decide where you want to be at the start of combat before advancing with guard attacks and such.)
