Hello, and thanks in advance for taking the time to see what's on offer.
We started a PbP campaign in December last year, and have been progressing along steadily. Unfortunately our DM has had to prioritize his time in other areas and has had to drop the campaign recently. I am attempting to step into the DM's role, as a new DM, and thus my character is retiring (which is better than everyone's character's retiring). The party has recently started a quest arc, and as such we will be continuing with at for the moment, before opening back up to the original open world vision. the world is a Donjon generation, but assume alike to Faerun is all aspects other than geography.
What I'm looking for in a player:
A player who can join an existing group, fit in with the humour, casual play style, and moderate-strong RP
Someone who can post daily, and responds promptly when their character is engaged, but appreciates that they aren't always the spotlight
Some patience and support - this is my first time behind the screen properly, and I'm going to get things wrong at some point
What I'm looking for in a character:
A spellcaster... Seriously, other classes need not apply. PHB races only
Lvl 3, milestone XP, Point buy / Standard Array, starting equipment (swap out anything you want like for like at PHB prices)
Usual character bio as a submission:
Name
Race
Class / subclass
Character Background - we will tie up any specifics with the world later.
Player Blurb - give me some idea who I'm interacting with.
Who will you be playing with:
Kai Kyril | Lvl 3 | Half-Elf | Druid/Circle of the Land (Forest)
Jack | Lvl 3 | Human | Rogue/Thief
Duncan Idaho | Lvl 3 | Human | Fighter/Battle Master
Elber Windbringer | Lvl 3 | Human | Barbarian/Path of the Ancestral Guardian (Primarily using a bow)
Submissions (in the thread below please) will be reviewed by me, then the rest of the group will have the choice from my shortlist. We are looking for one or two players, based on how your characters fit in. If you need to know anything else, PM me.
Last submissions Sunday 31st March - 20:00 GMT. Thanks for your consideration :-)
Name: Berk Race: Half-Elf Class: Sorcerer/ Wild Magic Background: Urchin, Berk grew up on the streets by himself. He was taken in by a small group of thieves. He discovered that he had some skill with magic. He seeks for something more. (I need to know more about the world in order to produce a bit more) Player blurb: I am playing in another pbp called Streets of Dunnour. If you want a sample of my writing I can send you one. I love to write. I am currently DMing two campaigns. I love rping.
Race: Aasimar (it comes standard w/ dnd beyond so I hope that's ok)
Class: Sorcerer/Draconic
Background: (i can adjust this to align with dieties in your world) I cannot tell you where I am from. I cannot tell you my parents names. I do not know if I have any siblings. I was raised in a temple and only know the life of an acolyte. As a boy, I was not aware of my race. I was human. I knew temple visitors' expressed themselves differently to me than to other acolytes. My learning in the temple was that outward expression reveals one's truth, therefore, guard yourself by managing how you interact with people. Truth & Knowledge are true power. I wholly embraced this mantra and guarded myself from the falsity of status and wealth by learning as much as I had available to me about each. In my research, I learned of all known dieties around this great land. I learned the geography, and many of the creatures that inhabit it. I learned of the existence of magic and the existence of dragons. While researching one day, discovered a horrifying secret! My temple, my sanctum and place of security, had held two secrets from me my entire life; my true race as an Aasimar and my unique connection to the arcane. I immediately vacated the temple as my trust in myself and in the other acolytes of temple were broken. I have been gone for nearly a year, and I am still searching for the knowledge of who I truly am.
I have been itching for more RP. My home game is battle focused bc we several players who are new and haven't broken out of their timid shell just yet.
Background: Solder. Drex was raised in a church in a small town, learned to be a healer. He was really good at it too. When he turned 14 he looked like a young man and was able to join the military were he learned to be a combat medic.
Being only 17 Drex has seen 3 years worth of the wars and frontlines. More then most men ever want too. He has learned to heal people faster then most. Being able to tend to peoples wounds with but a little rest between his shifts, were most people would need a full nights sleep to even start their next shift. Now he is out of the service (for now) he is roaming around offering his healing service for cheap to all.
Player Blub: I am a father of two boys and have been playing DnD since I can remember. Just learning the PbP stuff. I play in a weekly DnD game on roll20.
Being born on the coast to a mother who found work cleaning the library/place of study and father a sailor himself. He spent most of his childhood being stuck indoors when his mother worked. Spending his time with his nose in the books and head in the clouds. Until his mother fell ill and passed away. He was an orphan for a year, before his father came back from sea. He waited at the docks every day until his return. Gaining a reputation around the docks. Once his father grieved, Allistar joined his father in the open ocean sailing away. Spending the latter years of adolescence traveling the seas, molding an eclectic opinion of the world. Despite living the life he always dreamed of, he can’t help himself to find a library or bookstore at each port he visits. His mother’s voice in the back of his head to keep to his studies.
Only ever really played on PBP because that’s the time and resources I have. I’m in two games and dming another, I check in throughout the day.
Background: Artemis is very keen on learning however he ran out of new material in his hometown. Not being content with his current level of knowledge he decided to travel around with his trusty hawk familiar, looking for more knowledge, but he also realised that just reading it wasn't enough. He needed to put what he had read into practice and so looked for ways to use his powers to help others.
Player blurb: I am a student, been playing 5e for 3 years and started to DM in September. I have decided to try to get into PbP as I miss being a player and I don't have enough time to be in another weekly 4 hour campaign. For me, RP and story are more important than rules (but that doesn't mean that the rules will be broken, just bent as needed) so moderate-strong RP sounds perfect
Background: I grew up in the streets. Living one day at a time. My body is nimble, as i have never had a full belly in my life. I learned to sweet talk my way out of trouble more than once. I once killed a man. It wasnt on purpose. It was a random guy that wanted to help me. But my powers awakened that day, and i fried him to a crisp. His melted face still haunts my nights. I dedicated my life that day to fight monsters like me, and hide away from society.
Player: I have been playing 5e for a few years. Began as a dm for my friends, and as real life hit them one by one, i started playing here instead. I love rp, and play for the story more than the win. If i wanted to win i would play computer ^^ Here i can dig into a great story, and challenge myself creatively.
Bede, the innkeeper's foundling, was the cleverest, most charming boy of his generation in the village. But there was always something extra, something special about him, something you can't quite put your finger on. When he plays his flute or whistle, some swear the birds will stop to hear him play. The young lasses definitely do, making cow eyes all the while... Maybe he's got a touch of the fey magic? One thing's for sure: He packed them in the Pig and Whistle. They stayed late, kept on drinking, and kept on spending.
But those days are behind him. As much as he loved Ma'am and Pops, that little inn in that little village couldn't hold a man of his talent, hunger and ... essential nature. Bede's a man of the world, a man of music, learning, and passion, a bard through and through. It's adventure and the open road from here on out.
Player Blurb
I'm a DnD player from way back, back in Version 1. Meaning I'm old! LOL ... But dang, I still love this stuff. I've been playing 5e since it came out, in person and online on Roll20. I haven't played by post, but I'm looking forward to it because it's asynchronous (better for real-world schedules) and because it seems to encourage better role play and creative writing. I've always been all about the role play. I mean, like, What's my character's motivation? Very Method, you know.
Henry was born to a young human woman, his father having died before she gave birth to him. They were poor and she did her best to support the two of them as he grew up, loving her son no matter what. His mother's youthful appearance and innocent beauty caught the eye of an aristocrat and it was not long after that they were wed when Henry was seven. But a few years later, she had gotten very sick one day, growing weaker and worse by the weeks until she eventually passed away. Now his stepfather did not like Henry at all because he was born of commoner blood, believing him to be inferior and not worthy of belonging in upper society. His stepfather planned to sell him to some slave traders in order to be rid of him and obtain some extra gold. So in the middle of the night, Henry was forcibly awakened by his stepfather who was holding a large sum of gold and a tiefling man who was now grabbing his arms. Henry struggled and cried before the tiefling man quickly gagged him and tied him up with ropes, taking him away. He was thrown into the back of a small carriage, crammed in a tiny dark space as the carriage was driving off. After what felt like hours of nothing but darkness and crying, something happened as the carriage was flying through the air and he was being thrown about inside. There was a loud crash and he was now looking up at the moon in the night sky, the carriage all broken up around him with the driver dead. Henry managed to quickly get the ropes loose enough to get out of them, taking off the gag before quickly running away from there without looking back. Unfortunately he had no idea where he was, now in a large unfamiliar forest and still dark so he couldn't see either. But he just kept running and running, believing that there had to be a way out of here. So he never stopped until he thought that he saw what looked like a sacred temple in the distance, thinking that people must be there. But in his rush, he ran right into a giant spiderweb, trapped in the sticky webbing as he struggled. He screamed and called out for help as a giant spider crawled over, biting down on the boy with it's fangs as he was quickly paralyzed. All he could do was watch as the spider soon wrapped him up into a cocoon and everything went dark. Henry woke up the next morning laying on a bed, wearing pajamas that weren't his and in a small bedroom. The elven man with red hair noticed that he was awake, comforting him and letting him that he is okay, telling him about how they had heard his cries for help and rushed over as the spider was about to eat him before they killed it and rescued him. He questioned what a young human child was doing in the forest so late at night before Henry told him about everything that happened with being taken away and then the carriage being destroyed, free again as he had been running and looking for a way out of that forest. The elven man listened and felt terrible for the young child, deciding to let him stay here at this secluded temple, a sanctuary for the wood elves who devote themselves to the Goddess of Peace Eldath. Ever since then Henry grew up in the temple, being raised by the wood elves as he was taught their language and learned their ways. He devoted himself to Eldath as well, training to become a priest and happy to be living this quiet peaceful life. But in a dream Eldath came to him, wanting him to go out and help bring peace to this world as her Cleric, giving him divine magic to use. He was hesitant on leaving this temple, his home behind and risking his life but was reminded by the elven priest who saved him that it was his duty to do this and how he can go help keep innocent civilians from being kidnapped or losing their lives like he almost had that night. Henry realized that, making his decision as he said his goodbyes, leaving the temple and now exploring the different places, trying to save and protect the innocent from all the dangers of this world.
Player Blurb: I've been playing DnD for a little over a year now, mostly Adventure's League. I have recently finished up playing in an IRL homebrew campaign though. I have done a PbP one-shot before and I'm nearing the end of another PbP one-shot right now as well, along with hopefully soon joining a very homebrew PbP campaign. I do work full-time and do Adventurer's League on Sundays also, but I will check and post when I can/need to. I just really want to play and do more campaigns, being able to really roleplay and get into the story, getting to know the party over time and having some character development as well.
Flattery is my preferred trick for getting what I want. I lie about almost everything, even when there’s no good reason to.
Ideals
Independence. I am a free spirit—no one tells me what to do. (Chaotic)
Bonds
A powerful person killed someone I love. Some day soon, I’ll have my revenge.
Flaws
I’m convinced that no one could ever fool me the way I fool others.
An orphan of the streets, Arvel quickly learned that his good looks and silver tongue could allow him to get away with almost anything. A low-level conman, he prides himself on never taking anything that wasn't freely given.
A year ago, he was ready to hang it all up and go straight. Because he'd met Luala and wanted to marry her. On the night he planned to propose, Arvel approached Luala sitting on a stone bench in a park. When he touched her shoulder, she fell to the ground. Her throat had been slashed and her dress was dyed deep red with her blood.
Arvel turned to shout for help but he stopped suddenly. A bloody dagger had mysteriously appeared in his hand. Stunned by this, Arvel didn't hear the approach of the watchmen.
Seized, jailed, and set to be put on trial for murder he sat in his cell weeping over his fate and his lost love.
That's when She appeared. The woman appeared Elven, but was more beautiful than any elf Arvel had ever seen before. The offer was simple, Arvel would be given his freedom and a small measure of power to continue his conniving ways and in exchange he would render Her service when She required.
Seeing no other way out, Arvel accepted and became a Warlock in service to the Archfey woman.
The next morning he was released from prison. The guards explained that a common street thug had come forward and confessed to the murder. Arvel took all he had saved and set out for a life of adventure to escape his pain and grow his power.
