Quote from digitKitchen>>ooc - does the paper have a heading of some sort that indicates that it is from this town, making it look more official. Also should I roll another slight of hand to grab the paper or use the previous roll?
Your thinking a bit too modern :) If you are looking for blanks, it is just going to be a blank piece of parchment. Any kind of contract before cheap mass printing would be more like a letter. You can use the previous roll.
OCC:Directions - yeah second time today... 4 more cups of coffee.
Zansnut
"The protection of the citizens of Darkshelf in my primaryconcern. I feel Kwon is the first step as he did several weeks of investigating, and I at least owe him the effort. Whatever Bazili is up to, it probably isn't a direct threat. At least not yet."
Addressing Zansnut, Flemig says "While I agree both Kwon and Bazili should be on our interview list, good Master Neistor's suspicions about the Bazili's "change" should make us wary of the dwarf at least. We should approach Bazili with utmost caution, and with the assumption he is a person of interest in these matters!"
"Of course I'm wary of Bazili, he is a dwarf." Zansnut gave a sigh, "If we go snooping around the mine for Kwon and Bazili finds out, we don't have a reason to be there. However if we go to Bazili as official inspectors from the village we have a reason to be snooping around. We could say we were sent due to the villagers that had drowned in the mine. I'd much rather not have to deal with the possible creatures and Bazili keeping us out of the mine while we search for Kwon."

Tanirall finally steps forward from the wall, "We should find Kwon. Bazili poses no immediate threat while Kwon may have potential information on not only this creature but any other operations that Bazili may be trying to cover up. From there we may decide if the best option will be to pursue this creature or Bazili. But before we decide anything else. I don't think 500 gold is enough compensation for this trouble. We have little information about the monster that eats people's guts, we don't know where Bazili could be or even if he's alive, and we're trying to do this without drawing Bazili's attention. I think a man with a successful mine can afford to pay us a little more handsomely than that. Especially after we solve your problem so you can get back to work.
Erevan listens to all of this before speaking up, "Hang on a minute. The gold is for finding out what has happened to Kwon and bringing proof, right? So does that mean there may be more... compensation depending on what else we uncover? For example, maybe some kind of reward for killing any creature that may have caused these deaths? Or for capturing any suspects? If we have proof, of course." He pauses to let his questions sink in and to see what his new comrades think.
“I count seven of us.... that means our lives are valued at roughly 70 gold a piece. I would think my life is worth more than that..... tell me how much money does the mine bring in a week? How much money have you lost already? I don’t think it’s too much to ask for a more reasonable fee so you can get back to your profits. It’s the price of business, no?”
(hopefully this counts as helping with the persuasion roll: 23 )
Neistor's face turns stoney at the mention of more money. "I think you are under a misapprehension of the resources of this town and of myself. Despite my apparent position, I live in the two rooms above this little office, as for the town coffers, they are committed to this town. Anything more would require a full vote of the council, on which Bazili sits. Now I am not an unreasonable man, and Bazili has claimed to have found gems and gold in the mine. All of which is outside the purview of his contract with the town, so anything you find in the mine, you are welcome to keep."

If no one picked up the report documents from the desk, Maya would grab them to review them in detail. If at any point any of her comrades wanted to view the documents, she would share. Otherwise she would be looking over the reports to pay special attention to how things are worded. Maya kept an attentive ear open to listen to her comrades discuss their range of options while she scanned the documents. Maya held no particular interest in the gold or the politics and figured the others had it under control. She was more curious about the mystery; what is really down there in that mine? Not just the monsters, but the secret contents. Most importantly though, she would do her best to memorize the details on the map in case they can’t take it with them.
”Slithers on the ground like a snake, but has two webbed claws...” Maya mutters aloud, “Do you have reptile species around these parts... like crocodiles or alligators?”
It was a surprising change to hear others ask for more gold. Something he would have normally did but he had already planned to take from the mine. Though it appeared that he would now be taking from the mine with permission. He took a closer look at the reports over Maya's shoulder. "Do you have an idea what is doing it?"
Tanirall leans back against the wall once again. "I guess I can settle for 500 gold if this mine is as rich as you say it is. I'm ready to get this over with whenever you guys are done with your questions." He seems satisfied that he won't have to steal the gems from the mine. Theft and crimes aren't anything new to Tanirall but if he can get paid legally, that makes life a lot easier. As he leans against the wall, he rests his eyes staying alert yet relaxed, only opening them every so often to glance around the room at others reactions to everything.

Erevan shrugs at Neistor's reply. "You make a fair point, I can't argue with that. I suppose I am rather intrigued as to what is going on anyway, so being paid to investigate a mystery is kind of ideal. Plus the ability to take valuable things from a mine known for its valuable things is always a positive!" He laughs and smiles at the group, before returning to his reply. "I too am satisfied with the terms, but before we leave is there anyone in particular we should be wary of?"
"I know the reptiles you speak of, but we have never had any such creatures in the area. And they are four legged creatures, aren't they? I really wish I know more about what they are. As for caution, I would caution you about approaching Bazili directly or his assistant, a Tiefling called Glyrthiel. She handles most of the business arrangements with customers to the quarry. I am not sure how many guards he now has in the guard house, but there have been several new one poking around town in the last week."
Maya would tilt the documents to Zansnut’s glance to share. “I can’t say I know what the creature is... and I figured it couldn’t be as simple as a croc. But if there is anything known in the area that it could be related to, or even mutated from...” she thought aloud, “then we’d have a better chance of being prepared if we do run into them.”
Pointing to the documents in her hand once Neistor finishes his warning, “Can we bring these with us?”
Maya would continue pacing the room pondering until all her comrades were ready to move on, and she would just follow behind silently with her head buried in thought.
Erevan leans over to look over at the documents too, before looking back up at Neistor. "Okay, thank you." He turns away, contemplating the group's potential next move.
Khlöe briefly look at the documents before speaking “Before we head out, just exactly when and how often have the creatures been attacking? Keep finding the bodies in the morning or midday?”
She pauses a bit trying to find the best way to word her final question , “Nothing else is connected to the ground spring right? No backdoor tunnels into the town or anything?”
"Mutated? No, can't think of anything that would cause something like that around these parts. Certainly, you can take the reports and map. I trust you won't let them fall into other hands."
Khlöe
"Usually the bodies are found in the morning by the river, but we have found them later in the day much further inland. No, there are no tunnels under the village. What need would we have of them? For generations, this was only a fishing village with a bit of a breakwater."
Khlöe blinked a couple times trying to formulate an answer that wouldn't seem shady as all heck before giving up entirely, responding with a simple shrug "Been to couple places that had tunnels to explore before, some even connected underground rivers to surface ones." Those place once had very legitimate reasons for a couple tunnels running under a town but she had never dig deep into local history, besides at the time all she had cared were where those tunnels lead. "Sort of dreaded to know if your town would be similar. Either way if the creatures have been moving inland they are getting either bolder or hungrier. If we get very unlucky we might have a big lizard pack with some even more tiny lizards to feed" Khlöe didn't wait for a response before moving nearby the door, drumming her finger on her staff waiting to see what the rest of the group would do.
Zansnut didn't have anymore questions and it seemed the party didn't want to head to Bazili first. He could only hope he come across him during the mission. If they were lucky they could find out what happened to Kwon and solve the creature issue as well as let Bazili continue his plans. Essentially get paid for the mission, paid by Bazili to keep quiet and steal from the mine. It could be a very profitable mission. Given the cries of the party for more gold they may even be willing to help him. His main concern was Tanriel. As a Mercenary how loyal was he to the one who hired him. "I'm done here lets get a move on."
“I am fine with these terms, one question though. If we are going through these lines. Would it be possible to loan some equipment? Pick-axes, shovels, and so forth, just in case we get into a situation we need to.... excavate ourselves?”
