Neistor smiles at the pun, diffusing some of the tension, "Excavate yourselves? Well, there I think I can help you, come with me." When he stands, you are surprised to see a stocky, well muscled man, a bit past his prime, but still in fighting shape despite age and a slight limp. He is also armed with a long curved dagger, the leather wrapped hilt showing signs of age, but care. "After you", he says, gesturing to the door. Once out, he takes a ring of three keys from his belt, locks the door and leads you around back of the small building. A flight of stairs leads up to a door, and another smaller door with a window beside it is under the stairs. Bending down, he opens the lock with another key and gestures into the dim room.
Inside is a variety of used equipment, including:
pick axes
sledge hammers
spikes
coils of rope
spade shovels
transfer shovels
hand axes
sickles
wheel barrows
"Take what you think you'll need," he says. "If you were searching for swords and armor, I'm afraid I can't help with that."
Allistar follows and slaps the Neistor on the shoulder with a big smile “Thank you my friend, this is most generous. We will do our best to make sure these items come back in one piece... just like ourselves, yes” Allistar continues to retrieve a shovel and pick axe for the journey. Turning to the group with excitement “Come, let us embark on our first mission! These are exciting times.... maybe we should think of a name for ourselves, yes? How about Allistar and the Sensational Six!” Letting our a hearty laugh, pleased with his joke. “I am ready, friends!”
Maya would securely tuck the documents in the safest spot in her bags while she followed Allistar into the room. Thinking about keeping it light, she would grab two hand axes to hook to her belt, a bundle of spikes and one of the smallest pick axes she could find, leaving the smallest for Flemig if he wanted it.
Maya would let out a nervous laugh to Allistar’s joke and duck out of the room as fast as she could to let the others peruse. “I am as well” she’d stand holding her hands in front of her, curious what the others would pick.
OCC: Looks like people are getting ready to move on, so let me know your strategy. If you pick up something, since almost everything can be used as a weapon in a pinch, please remember to add it to your equipment.
For example, a miner's pick being heavier than a war pick, I would probably inflict a penalty on the attack role, but a bonus on damage due to the momentum. A pitchfork would be the same as a trident, etc.
Khlöe eyes the equipment available before grabbing two pick axes, a bunch of spikes, one rope coil, the one shovel, and after feeling the weight of pair of sickles grabs one.
Flemig rummages through his pack, muttering quietly to himself. After a few minutes the mutterings turn into what sounds like arguing with himself and Flemig exclaims "I've never been inside a mine! I have no idea what to bring. Shovels, picks, spikes! What to do... what to do...." Looking around with a resigned expression, Flemig says "I've already got some of the things I can guess would be necessary to extricate ourselves from a sticky situation in the mines! I'm ready to go! I think..."
Zansnut brushed by the master grabbing one pick axe. He didn't bother even looking at him. It was like these should have been offered at the beginning of the job and shouldn't have needed to be requested.
ooc - Zansnut votes to take the ventalation shaft. It is ungaurded, and away from immediate creature foot prints. Gives them a chance to look for Kwon and hopefully learn about the creatures before having to fight them. he propose it to the group earlier.
In a moment of uncharacteristic lucidity, Flemig says "We should scout the ventilation shaft first carefully, in my opinion, since we aren't even sure it will allow us a viable way into the mines, and we can't be sure it is unguarded. And since we are going to approach this with stealth in mind, we will have to circle around north (preferred) or south (if we have to) to avoid detection from the guard house. Last - I also think we should arrive at the mines at night for added cover."
Zansnut rolled his eyes. "This is why you should read the report carefully. It has already been scouted as an entrance in to the mine. That is the way to go. As for travel it is far enough from the guard house to be unguarded. Though I agree with the need for caution. We should take the trees as cover to get around. As for the time I disagree we should go in the day. The guards are going to be more alert at night. Also the humans shift should be during the day affecting eyesight. The Dwarves will most likely be at night and they have eyes that aren't going to be affected by night. During the day their main focus is going to be on the quarry and any deliveries or guests coming in as opposed to the surrounding area."
Flemig smiles at Zansnut and says "I read the report just fine my good man. It's a little uncharacteristic of one of your profession to trust a scouting report from an unknown and untrusted source, though, wouldn't you say?" Then, without waiting for a response Flemig wanders away, muttering incoherently to himself.
Maya’s eyes would bounce back between Zansnut and Flemig during their discussions, both bringing up valid points. She remembered Zansnut mentioning the ventilation shaft and couldn’t help but blurt, “Didn’t you suspect that the ventilation shaft may only fit you and Flemig?” Maya would take a glance over at their half-orc comrade Tanirall who would be the biggest of the bunch. “If this were to be true, would we send you two out to scout first?” She thought out loud.
Maya would take the map back out to look at it again, her eyes tracing the river bank behind the quarry. “When Khloe asked about possible secret tunnels to the city... It’s leading me to wonder if there may be any secret or hidden tunnels from the river? The flooded water from the mines would have to go somewhere?” She really was thinking out loud, taking a shot in the dark. Thinking about what Flemig just said to Zansnut about trusting an unknown source, “Did Kwon investigate there?”
Another intelligence check? Since I don’t know the area myself I’m guessing this would be investigation? 19
"it's not about trusting an unknown source. Most mines would have a air passage in order to not suffocate incase of collapse. You're right this is my profession so I do know what I am talking about." Then he turned his attention to maya's questions, " if it is just big enough for the two of us then we can get in and cause a distraction for the rest to make it in another way. Though that is plan C. I initially wanted to go in as inspectors because it would have provided reason to be there and got all of us in but that idea wasn't liked too much. That is why I think the shaft is our best bet."
Shuffling back in her bag, Maya would pull out Report 2. “There is that hidden jetty... It is guarded though, with lots of tracks. Points that were desired to be avoided I suppose...” she muttered off, figuring that suggestion was mute point.
Maya would listen intently to Zansnut walking her through his suggestions as she respected his knowledge in this field. “I would trust your experience over my theory ponders.”
With a smile Flemig says to Zansnut "We're all just offering our opinions here my friend. When you offer yours there are ways to do so without insulting the intelligence of others doing the same".
"And as I've stated my thoughts already - I'm ready to move on and will defer to the consensus of the group on the strategy we use. Onward we go!"
Erevan watches his comrades discuss, deep in thought, before giving his own opinion.
"Personally, I think the ventilation shaft is our best option. It will be the least guarded, and we have spikes and rope to get ourselves down the shaft. Even if it's not big enough for all of us, we can send a coupe of those the do fit down it just to scout out what's down there. It could lead to a part of the mine that is no use to us, or it could unveil something that is of use to us, we won't know unless we have a look. Plus, above ground (by the shaft) could give us a good vantage point over the rest of the goings-on around the entrance to the mine and the guardhouse. That's just my thinking though, if we have a different plan then I'll defer to your better judgment." He shrugs and returns to his thinking, absent-mindedly moving his right hand back to check his bow.

Neistor indicated that Kwon had found a hidden jetty where the quarry is closest to the river. No other information.
