There is a jumbled mess of tracks, humanoid and horse. Beyond that, I am unable to determine much more with any degree of certainty. The leads for the horse were cut or chewed. No other particular evidence of a struggle.
Mixum, I found these vials in the wagon. I suspect they are some sort of mystical potions or reagents. Perhaps you can tell us what they are.
Slate will move quickly towards the cart as his armor and weapons Thank and clatter with every step. "So what did ya find?" The dwarf would as as he sticks his large head into the back of the cart.
I will move up with the others, offering to take the reins of any horses of those who dismount. I approach close enough to hear conversation but stay back so that the horses remain calm, should the catch the scent of blood or anything else.
When Nyaris gives Mixum the potions he is oddly, a little crestfallen. I mean, yeah sure 'No problem' he wasn't sure what he was really expecting. When Mixum gets back to the burro he begins to rummage through the saddle bags. He has to take out a book to reach his supplies. It is a signed copy of "Galadriel Gladwrights Glorious Galavants: Adventure across the Realms with Gal" He hides it under the saddle so that no one else will see it. Gal didn't wait for it to be safe...She made it safe.
He checks the glass bulbs that he has already prepared picks up one that is swirling green. He hands it to Red, "Hold on to this please. Oops no wait. That one is poison. We don't want that one. Ha Ha." It's okay, don't panic. You'll just have to do it step by step like you do in the workshop. The way you showed Arkalis .
Mixum puts some parchment underneath the potions on a flat surface. He rummages in the pack for his components and comes up with a pearl and a feather. He places them in the the block, a convex hemisphere attached to a handle.
His block was crafted from heartwood and alloys that he created. Tubes and release valves ran along its side along with several dials near the handle. He placed a gob, a chunk of unworked glass in the block with the components.
He reached out mentally for the arcane catalyst and focused it down the tubes and alloy. The catalyst began to work and the gob softened and glowed red. He then pierced the gob with a glass tube, continuing to rotate and shape it into a ball. Mixum then took a breath and then blew into the tube.
Slowly the gob grew. He turned and shaped it into a perfect sphere. The components vaporized into a swirl of white inside what was now a glass bulb. He took the bulb over to the potions on the parchments and shattered the bulb with his tinker's hammer. A white mist settled over the potions.
Well that's that. he thought. He removed the potions and bent closer to examine the parchment. Where each potion was placed there was now an arcane outline and residue. "Certain arcane properties are pass through and others are absorbed. Opposites attract and like passes through like. All one needs to do is examine the residue pattern left behind on the paper then one can identify its arcane properties." He was absorbed in his work, not really aware that he was speaking out loud. [Approximately 11 minutes passed]
Seeing the exchange between Nyaris and Mixum, Delilah's face begins to wear a quizzical expression. "Um... Is there any particular reason we're going through this person's belongings? We've identified that there's no immediate threat and I'd rather we not be mistaken for common thieves. If the owner of this caravan comes back and sees such rummaging, I shudder to think what might happen."
Red standing near Slate, still scanning for anyone or anything, Thanks for waiting. I'm bummed about this creepy mystery doss. If we're not to have a nice boring journey there otta be stuff for you to hit. Not as I want folks to be in trouble, but I did come to do some rescuing.

"No problem Red, It isn't so much that I need to be hitting somthing... but rather if something happens i want to be in the thick of it!" The dwarf would say with a smile as he slings his flail back over his shoulder and looks from the teifling to the others before his eyes return back to Redemptoin. "I don't have the patience for waiting and sneaking... not when it puts me in a position where I cannot help me friends" Slate would say giving The teifling a hard friendly slap on the shoulder with his armored glove "But I suspect I'll get the chance to hit something before long.. I doubt we end up getting paid without me flail getting a little bloody" He would say with a wink before nodding to Lancel. "Aye, I expect that if we find the owner of this cart that we will be returning their property.... right?" Slate would mention with one thick curly black eyebrow raised.
with a sudden start Gack! This is recent and she's been missing a long time, but...Any of the contents gnome-sized or gnome-fashion? Master Mixum, know anything about the Mage Penelope? She have a familiar or pet called Spinny? Which sounds like a spider name come to think. Or clockwork? Reigns gnawed, wolves acting strangely? There are more cages in the cart as well...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mixum
Mixum hands the potions back to Nyaris.
He listens to Red ask him about Evoker Fizzlewind. (( ?? Sure, No, Maybe ??)) At the mention of wolves acting strangely he immediately checks his surroundings. "Yes, of course I'd be willing to look though I'm sure you've found all there is to find."
Mixum will investigate the cages and wagon. He'd like to look for false compartments and for any journals or books left behind.
Mixum goes to task on identifying the properties of the liquids inside the four bottles while the others discuss the abandoned carriage. Nyaris takes back the flasks to look once more and offers a thorough check, holding a bottle one at a time up towards the sun studying the contents. Delilah offers caution mentioning that potentially an owner returning to see the group rummaging through their carriage may not take the intrusion kindly. Lancel steps forward to grant Guidance on Redemption and Nyaris which draws Mixum's attention back towards the cages that he was requested to view as well. The Gnome picks up the small cage studying it closely while Redemption looks on the carriage pondering the clues deeper. Slate, obviously not keen on the idea of standing around for too long shifts his stance watching the area closely as his companions work together.
Watching impatiently as the group investigates the scene, you feel something wet running down the back of your legs. Looking over your shoulder, you realize a trail of water has followed you from your horse, and upon closer inspection, it appears your water skin has sprung a leak!
Weapon in hand, you watch carefully as the others poke about the carriage, you glance over at your friend Slate who seems to be inspecting his leaking water skin.
You feel the blessing of Lancel's spell Guidance. Studying the wagon further, you think it would be easily pulled by a smaller horse and now that your friend Mixum is standing next to the carriage, it is likely this wagon was meant for the smaller folk such as a Gnome. Could it be possible you stumbled across the carriage of Penelope?
You study the tests on the four vials but realize it will take some time to get an accurate result so you go back to investigating the carriage while handling the bottles back to Nyaris. Upon second glance, you are confident this carriage was meant to accommodate someone smaller in height as some of the rails along the bottom to assist stepping up into the driver's seat imply the driver is likely to be either a Gnome or Halfling in size. After some time of pondering the clues before you, you return back to the samples of the potions and assess the findings Arcana25
It is clear that there are dual effects that make up the potions you inspected:
The yellow vials seem to have a powerful strength enhancement (Potion of Hill Giant) as well as a speed augmenter (Potion of Haste).
The purple vials combine the effects of invisibility and fire breathing which conjures imagery of a fiery surprise inside your head.
Watching the group from afar as you tend to the horses, you are confident that if there was any wrong doing that led to this carriage being abandoned, your friends will get to the bottom of it.
OOC
I usually use Arcana as a way to tell potion's magical properties, unless a brave soul chooses to taste test. I allowed advantage to Mixum's roll as a result of Nyaris roll being above DC 15 (not sure if this is RAW, but seems to work in my idea of lending Aid in such a way as this that requires a roll to study something )comparing notes so to speak on the research of the fluids. I am still going off of passive perception as well as investigation scores unless you indicate your are investigating further such as Mixum did.
"Ach! My damn waterskin has sprung a leak!" The dwarf would shout as he pulls the waterskin from his belt and quickly drinks the remaining water before it is wasted. "Any of you have one of those mending spells... I don't seem to have me leather-working kit on me!" Slate would say as holds out his waterskin towards his friends. "So any luck figuring out where the tracks lead?"
Red will check his leather gear, hands running over clothes and pockets, and look at the others for signs of damage to Slate Anything like these reigns being frayed?
Miming pointing a pipe at clues OK, we come across a Gnome-appropriate carriage on our way to check on a possibly missing Mage Fizzlefing. Too much to be a coincidence, but also - too lucky? Full of potions and cages, not exactly what I think of for an Evoker, but Arcane-adjacent at least. But she's been out of contact for weeks, and this carriage was left recently. Can we all check more specifically - are the clothes left behind right for a Gnomishwoman? Any labels beyond this cage "Spinny" anywhere?
Something messes with the space between our horns last night, and today we find too easy a clue? Some one left it here, and maybe they are coming back, but perhaps if we bring it on to Werflowe someone could identify it. Edgar could probably pull it if Brother Lancel works some mending and maybe if our good smith Ironhand adjusts the metal doodads.
This mystery.....And we still, haven't found, what we're looking for..." looking for...
