"Uhh. Whoever stays here is fairly well off. Never seen such a.. decorated place. Looks like they made an escape through that secret door. I don't know if we will find them again, may have lost them for good." Delmon then moves about the bed chamber and looks for anything that was left behind.
Delmon, you see the large chest at the foot of the bed is closed. It doesn't appear to be trapped or locked, so you open it. It contains 180 silver pieces, 130 gold pieces, and a silk pouch containing five carnelians (10 gold each), two peridots (15 gold each), and one pearl (100 gold). It also contains a spell scroll of charm person and a spell scroll of fireball.
You look through the writing desk, and find a small drawer. There are a number of blank pieces of paper inside, and one letter which reads as follows:
Lord Albrek,
My spies in Neverwinter tell me that strangers are due to arrive in Phandalin. They could be working for the dwarves. Capture them if you can, kill them if you must, but don’t allow them to upset our plans. See that any dwarven maps in their possession are delivered to me with haste. I’m counting on you, Iarno. Don’t disappoint me.
(OOC: Sadly, your party is a little light on arcane casters, so none of you can use the scrolls I believe. You might find a buyer for them though. Unless someone's planning to multiclass...)
Nate heads in the room as well and agrees with Delmon "I wonder if he heard us take out the other goons and left running scared... but where could he have gone?"
Nate was about to go check the opened panel, but then sees the chest at the end of the bed and decides to try and open it first.

"Iarno... wait a minute.... wasn't he the guy that Sildar was looking for? ISN'T HE SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOD GUY? I think we need to tell Sildar about this at once. Also that spider marking must be the black spider we heard about before."
"Hey Delmon - do you want me to take that stuff from the chest until we get back?"
"Maybe we should make one pass through that cavern to make sure there are no prisoners? What do you guys think?"
Nate will then check out that open panel where Iarno seemed to escape to see where it leads, if he can determine where he went, etc.
"Yes Nate, I'm good with you taking the items from the chest. If we are to tell Sildar then we should take this note too." He hands the note to Nate as well. "One clean sweep of the grounds is a good idea, figure out if any are left behind. Were any of you able to figure out what was brewing in the last room? Things like that are beyond me, that's for sure." Delmon then moves to the secret exit and begins to follow it to wherever it leads. "I'm off this way, not too worried about a fight, meet me at the other end when you guys are done, yes?"
OOC: KleinDungeons, you are able to cast any spell scroll that is of a spell on your casting list. See rules here.
Delmon didn't take any items for himself. Nate was given the letter.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: Yes, as Charm Person is on the druid list, Nate would be able to use the scroll.)
Nate, you're not able to see where the person fleeing ended up. The secret door opens up onto a staircase that leads to another secret door, this one opening onto a storeroom that you already checked. It seems the person who ran, whoever it was, managed to close this second door properly so it escaped your notice. There are no good tracks to follow after that.
Together you complete one last sweep of the area. You find another exit; from the room with the cistern, stairs lead up to a cellar, and then up to the surface in the ruins of Tresendar Manor, atop a small hill to the east of the town. You've explored all the rooms in the Redbrands' hideout, and found everything there is to be found, as far as you can tell.
As you are finishing off your final searches, Omnia, you feel a voice slithering into your mind:
Hungry again. Have you more food? Have you more for me?
Nate will meet back up with Delmon after the party does the sweep of the hideout. "Who knows what they were brewing in there and we didn't stay long to find out. We didn't find anyone else in there either."
To the others:
"Thank god we didn't run into that... creature again. Wait.. Omnia..? Omnia? Where'd you go?"
Nate would then suggest to the party again that we head back to see Sildar at once to inform him that Iarno seems to be a "double agent" if you will.

Since finding out about Iarno's betrayal Leo's face has been dark, "Looks like we must have missed him. Are we to assume this Iarno is conspiring against us? There seems to be dark forces at work here. Does anyone know what to make of the spider diagram at the end of the letter?"
Leo tries to think back on his training and recall any historical significance about the symbol.
Leo, you know that the spider is favoured by foolish young people who are attracted by the thought of darkness; it's a rather obvious symbol for someone intending to be intimidating, at least to intimidate people who are not very bright. You don't know of any particular significance in the Sword Coast.
"Leo - I remember hearing something about a Black Spider from one of the goblins we killed back in this cave before you and Delmon joined us. I think this is definitely dark forces at work here. Let's get this back to Sildar - he will know what to do. I wonder if he's still in the inn? Also they will be happy that we seemed to have taken out most of the Redbrands."
"I'd also like to get rid of some of this treasure and split up all of our money!!" Nate kind of gets too excited about this in a disrespectful way and then reels it in hoping not to offend Delmon.
Nate heads back with the others to tell Sildar about all of this.
Delmon agrees with Nate, "Sildar is most likely our best move from here. None of this is making sense to me but from the sounds of it, he can guide our way." Delmon will not react to Nate's comment on the treasure, he just seems indifferent on the matter, trusting the group to be fair when splitting funds.
The party decides to retrace their steps, through the cavern and the now well-used 'secret' entrance, back around to the small town of Phandalin. Those of you with proficiency in Insight might notice that Ophirinn is quiet, more so even than usual, but the dragonborn says nothing to you.
Though the stars are bright enough to navigate by, the town is in darkness as you return, with only the occasional window betraying the presence of a fire inside. The town is asleep, and you decide to head to the inn where you stayed the night before. It's been an eventful day to say the least, but as you enter the common room, there seem to be no patrons remaining; perhaps it's later than you thought. Toblen, the innkeeper, looks surprised as you enter.
I, oh, I wasn't expecting you... I was just closing up. Goodness, you all look exhausted. Please come in. You still have your rooms if you wish, or would you like a meal; we couldn't really cook something at this hour, but we have some bread and cheese left over if you like.
Nate's not going to really get into anything with Toblen other than to thank him for still allowing us to have the rooms. He doesn't want the news of their quest travelling faster than them.
Nate says to the party (not allowing Toblen to hear this): "We could definitely use a night's rest. Then we can go find Sildar and the townsmaster and bring them the news of the Redbrands demise. Sildar will also want to know that his chum Iarno is evil and can no longer be trusted. I agree with Delmon, Silar will know what to do! We also have to get to the store to dump some of this bounty... and a few other things too but let's just get some sleep tonight then head back to the townmaster first thing."
Nate will eat the left over bread and cheese then retire for the night.

OOC: How do the spell scroll rules work? I have charm person as one of my L1 spells - would I not be able to use the scroll version?
(Fireball is not on Druid list, just Charm Person)

Nothing happens.
Okay, so you have a question from Leo about the 'spider' diagram, and a suggestion from Nate to head back to talk to Sildar. What are you guys doing?
