Technically I think the swarm coming out of the hole will trigger my held action. Vicious Mockery works on a creature that can hear if that works on swarms, if not, Joshua's turn is wasted.

Yes it will work. Wasn't sure which you wanted to target. The swarm withers but most rush forward.
Talon would scramble backwards, holding his rod tightly in his hand, pointing it towards the approaching creature and cast eldritch blast towards the approaching creature.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Tait waits until the swarm reforms that is approaching Joshua. Before it gets too close to him he yells and arcane word and fire springs forth from his wand.
The swarm burst into eldritch fire. Magical flames consuming the running rodents.
All of a sudden the group is surrounded by silence. The monsters are dead and you are all breathing heavily. On the right the door stands open and leads into a cave farther down.
The light from the fires and the magical energies play on the walls, casting shadows everywhere around you.
Talon opens his beak but nothing comes out, as though he were trying to mimic someone that was speechless.... His eyes wide and his hands shaking, the silver feathered Kenku would slowly move to the others, looking them over for any wounds.
As you approach the armor you see that it is now a normal set of armor. It is from another age it seems and wouldn't fit anyone really. It wasn't made to be worn.
“Well, that wasn’t so bad. We’re all fine aren’t we?” As he looks around Arric’s fingers tremble a bit from adrenaline, but he tries to slow his breathing and also search everyone for wounds alongside Talon. After that he’ll go into the room to make sure there are no more surprises, with his shield up and his weapon at the ready.
Tait will move back to where he can still see what is going on and have a clear line of fire. The most he'll move is 30' and he will prepare a spell.

I was holding it for beyond Hoyle not the statue. Joshua hasn't even looked to see the large thing yet

Noch will move backward from the swarm and try to stay out of its reach. He has 1 round to wait for his breath weapon.
Klaus moves back also but stays at Arric's side ready to hit the beast should it come to close.
Seeing the large creature running towards them, Arric swings his morningstar up into its face as he runs towards it.
Attack: 20 Damage: 9
Klaus uses the opportunity to do the same from the other side.
Attack: 15 Damage: 9
Both attack hit the creature and it wines visibly very hurt. It is not down though.
Talon, Tait ( if you are doing anything else ), Joshua, your up.
Talon would scramble backwards, holding his rod tightly in his hand, pointing it towards the approaching creature and cast eldritch blast towards the approaching creature.
Attack: 13 Damage: 9
Vicious Mockery on the swarm again. DC13 wis or 2 psychic and disadvantage on next attack

Talon blast scores a hit on the creature. It struggles several feet more before falling down at Klaus and Arric's feet.
Joshua's spell scatters the swarm for a second but it reforms just after. It goes for him now.

Joshua runs over to the armour and looks inside, seeing if there is anything inside it or if it is now normal armour

Talon would mimic Arric "all fine..." as he dusts himself off and looks around with the light provided by his glowing crossbow.
Q - The swarm wasn't the winged dog-like creature I saw in the other room, right?
"I'm okay. Everyone else?" Tait answers Arric.
He'll then help Arric look around keeping his wand at the ready.
