The bramble blight clutches its head just below its crown as Chatra hurls insults at it. Grom intends to smite the bramble with a beam of crackling blue energy, but the bolt flies wide. Still, it proves as a useful distraction as Alten rushes in with a death dealing stroke of from his glaive. His rushing strike hacks the bramble in two, splitting it from crown to groin. As this happens a cloud of putrid green poison pours out of the husk of the now deceased monster.
Talien I need you to make a DC 12 Con saving throw. On a failed save you take 9 poison damage and are poisoned. On a successful one you take half damage and are not poisoned. You have advantage on the saving throw and take an additional half damage due to warforged resilience.
Rees arrow flies true and slams into the needle blights chest. It staggers a little, but is still standing.
Talien survives the blast of poisons fumes and in a fury cuts the remaining needle blight down at the knees. It hits the ground with a thud and the battlefield goes suddenly silent for a moment, before Alten calls the all clear.
The pike lays next to the bramble’s empty husk. After a minute the light morning breeze disperses the noxious poison that spilled out and Grom picks up the weapon to inspect it with Alten. After quickly looking over the dead blights you can tell they carry nothing of value, but you do notice they all seem to be stained with what looks like cow blood.
Grom, or Alten please make a nature check [DC 15] to learn more about the pike.
After it is clear that the battle is over, the area is secure, and the injured are dealt with, Alten kneels on the ground and offers up a prayer to Torm in a quiet voice.
Mighty Torm, My Lord, My Way, Praise thee for thine implacable conviction, that guided my hand on this occasion.
Thy Sword, Thy Hand Your tokens, your symbols, They will never break, Neither shall my faith shake.
As I travel the Realms, All the while showing the Hand, Preaching your word as the Duty, For words of you are spoken through me, Shine on me the light of thee, So unbelievers will believe.
As Alten offers up his prayer dawn breaks and the sun’s golden rays sine down on the field basking it in a radiant glow.
DM Note: The party earned 75 XP from the 3 twig blights, 100 XP from the 2 needle blights, and 200 XP from defeating the bramble blight for a total of 375 XP. That means 62 XP for each of you :-)
Danger seemingly over, Rees moves out toward the bodies of the blights as well. She catches Arx's eye and gives a slight nod to indicate she's alright before turning to look down at the bodies on the ground.
"So, those were carnivorous ... shrubs? I do not believe we had those where I'm from."

I do not know what you mean by hurt. Talien responds, he hears the prayer but does not grasp its meaning. He inquires about it saying. I do not understand who this Torm is, but he sounds like a war leader...can I meet him? Was he your master?
Edit: if that wont get it done and we go back to town grom would take 10min and ritual cast identify on the pike and find out what it is.
Also if were taking a rest Grom will use his arcane recovery to get his spell slot back
The pike is 10ft long and made entirely of some strange dark wood. The weapon does not appear magical. You know the blight was able to channel poison through it, but you’re not sure how.

Torm is my God, the one I am called to follow and worship. He is the God of War. In a cosmological sense, he is my ultimate Master.
What god or gods are worshiped in your lands? Do you worship a particular god?

I would like to take the heads of one or two of these things back to town to the Constable as evidence of what was attacking stuff. Can one or two of you who are good at tracking take a look over there where they came from and see if you can locate a trail? See which direction it might lead.
Alten goes over to one of the blights that isn't on fire and carefully chops the head off with his glaive using its full reach, ready to spring back at the first indication that any more poison comes out

It does take a few strokes and a bit of sawing to remove the head as it is integrated with the wooden body, but you are able to remove one.
DM Note: Those of you who want to search the area please make a survival check [DC 10].
Talien looks up as if to say something, his eyes have receded to blue. As the Poison damage seems to finally effect him from the Bramble Blight, his eyes turn the same matte black as before as he falls forward and lands face first on the ground as stiff as a board. (HP before damage is 1)
Chatra, can you use your tinkering skills to fix him once more? Or was it that Mending spell you arcane types are so fond of? I would like to watch. I couldn't see it clearly last time.

Rees nodded, "I'll take a look. Arxius, do you want to come with me?" Slinging her bow back over her back and pulling out a dagger instead as she began to follow the path the blights had taken toward them.

Saving throw (Used Constitution Saving Throw): 18
DM Note: Talien is currently at 4 HP. In comment #390 Chatra used healing word to restore 6 HP which brought you from 0 HP to 6. Then you took 2 posion damage from the poison gas released by the bramble blight. There are no negative hit points in 5e. A PC is only instantly killed if they take damage equal to double their HP in one go. Check out this flowchart as a reference.
Rees and Arixus are able to easily follow the path of flattened grass left behind by the shuffling blights from the field into the woods. About a hundred feet in you spot what looks like a game trail. You follow it for a few minutes, but stop when you spot a dead deer. It is full of holes that look just like the one’s described by the townsfolk in Oakhurst. But, something seems off.. the body seems desecrated somehow. Blood is spattered all over its pelt and the surrounding area. The corpse is covered in what looks like black and green mold spores and it appears to be decaying faster than normal. You surmise this is likely due to the blight’s poisons. The trail continues on to the south. It appears to follow the old road... towards the Sunless Citadel.
Massive damage can kill you instantly. When damage reduces you to 0 hit points and there is damage remaining, you die if the remaining damage equals or exceeds your hit point maximum.
For example, a cleric with a maximum of 12 hit points currently has 6 hit points. If she takes 18 damage from an attack, she is reduced to 0 hit points, but 12 damage remains. Because the remaining damage equals her hit point maximum, the cleric dies.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The trouble with the Warforged captures Arxius' attention to the point that she almost misses her friend speaking. It takes a moment for her to tear her eyes away. "Huh?" She looks confused for a moment and then the rest clicks. "Oh, yeah. I will follow." She unbuckles one of her axes just in case there's more trouble.
Survival: 15
(ooc: if the roll wasn't right just add what needs to be added, eh it was shit anyway)
Talien (did not fall over unconscious apparently) responds to Alten I do not know of this thing you call God...So Torm is a God? And he is the God of War...Talien turns away from Alten, seemingly lost for a moment saying...I wonder...Talien then spins back around to Alten and says with absolute certainty. Torm must be my creator, the one that in your land they call father...but who is my mother? Did you know her too Alten? You know of my father you must know of my mother!
(OOC: Well apparently I'm not unconscious again, was counting negative hp)
You're a machine aren't you? Machines don't have mothers and fathers, at least not in the way that most living beings have them. You would have one or more creators or builders? Right? I guess you could call your builder your mother or father? But I don't know who that was.
Gods don't usually have a direct hand in making most of us. Our parents made us in the . . . er . . .traditional . . . biological . . . way.

Arxius pulls her glove back on firmly after slinging her bow over her back. "Bastards missed me," she says with a smirk. "Twice."
She approaches Rees. Her eyebrow raising slightly the extent of asking if she was alright.

Instant Death
Massive damage can kill you instantly. When damage reduces you to 0 hit points and there is damage remaining, you die if the remaining damage equals or exceeds your hit point maximum.
For example, a cleric with a maximum of 12 hit points currently has 6 hit points. If she takes 18 damage from an attack, she is reduced to 0 hit points, but 12 damage remains. Because the remaining damage equals her hit point maximum, the cleric dies.
