Alten's glaive slices through the root that was swinging Belak's corpse.. it flies to the ground with a thud..
The tree screams again as Rees lights it up.. the flames catch quickly and the branches stop swaying as the whole tree lights ablaze...
No more screams are heard as arrows from Arxius' bow land in the trunk... the fire dies down quickly leaving a charred stump behind...
Looking down on the ground in front of the group about 30' from the tree is the apple.. it seems when the tree started thrashing it flew off and landed on the ground unharmed...
Congratulations you have defeated the evil Gulthias Tree!
DM Note: So, you've got two keys.. the ornate key you know goes to the Dragon Door.. Arxius you recall that the door to Belak's study was locked from this side... where to?
"That was easier than expected," Arxius grunts. She looks paler than usual, splattered with blood, a fair amount of it her own. "There was another door- in the study. We should see where it leads. We may find your hammer Talien. We might be able to secure the room for a proper rest first, if there is no objection."
The action with the tree was so quick that Shake barely caught it. The action leaves him a bit giddy. "An evil animate tree is a nice touch. Too few songs with those, if you ask me." Regaining his composure a bit he turns to the Elf. "This Elf makes sense to me."
"Yes... I think a rest is in order. Perhaps now that the residents of this citadel are freed from Belak's influence they'll be more willing to help us find that hammer."
The plain key fits the door and it unlocks into Belak's study...
A layer of soil covers the floor. Rough wooden shelves, filled with a scattering of tomes and scrolls, line the north and east walls, and a rough-hewn desk stands in the center of the chamber. Fungus on the ceiling provides light, apparently in sufficient quantity to nourish several small bushes and pale saplings that grow in the soil.
There's not much of interest in the room except a chest that is open and empty. Examining the desk further reveals it is locked, but it looks like the key that opened the door also oddly fits the desk. You open it and find a cracked leather bound journal in it... the inside cover reads... Belak of the Circle of the River, Westwood... flipping to the next page you find the writing is in some sort of runic language...
Talien moves to stand in front of the door with his pack, back resting against the door. He draws the sword he aquired from the 'husk' that was Grom's friend. He studys the blade quietly as he polishes it. (4 hours currently planned) He picks up everyone else's weapons after that and cleans them as they are doing thier own business. He does not speak to anyone, just moves from pack to pack rummaging through possessions to clean weapons.
this is just detect magic, so i assume they would pop, once u gather everything i will do a identify once we clear everything
Tut tut.. you know what they say about assumptions... the apple has a faint bluish aura now (it is of the evocation school of magic)... the sword glows white (it doesn't have a specific school in the text)... the wand glows orange (conjuration)

Alten is ready to go, but isn’t leaving if others insist on continuing to explore.

Talien makes no movement. Still staring at Alten during the whole encounter and remains that way.

Watching Talien he gives a head tilt and a slight shrug, he makes an ‘after you’ gesture. Lead on, then Arxius.

Arxius leads them back to the study, to secure the area and rest.

Grombrindal "The White Dwarf" (Dwarf - Wizard) - Fenris_Worldsbane's Tales from the Yawning Portal

We're probably safe here for the night, but does anyone feel like they need some preliminary healing, just in case something happens overnight?

Not around the room.. but, while it's up did you want to look at the wand, apple, or Talien's sword?

"I would not say no to some healing," Arxius says as she drops her bedroll on the floor and sits down on it.

Does anyone do/say anything to this?
