You inspect the plated lock on the front of the chest and can tell there’s some sort of additional mechanism in it which launches a needle if someone opens the chest without disarming it first. You can remove the needle from the lock by succeeding on a DC 15 Dex check using your thieves’ tools.
Anyone think it's worth exiting the Citadel and camping a bit away for the night (or going back to town)?
Talien will nod in agreement. I think a return trip to town is needed. I have a healing potion to collect.
“If we’re returning to town do you think we could pay a visit to my “twin”? The poor townsfolk have no idea a doppelgänger’s taken over my place as priestess of Pelor...”

You are able to grab the needle with a pair of pliers from your thieves tools kit and successfully pull it out of the mechanism. As you do you hear a click and the chest opens. Inside you find a pair of silver earrings set with moonstones (20 gp each), a matching necklace (50 gp), a gold signet ring (worth 20 gp) and splint armor inlaid with the Hucrele family crest, 231 gp, and two onyx gems (30 gp each).
I suppose we could if nobody objects. Anybody have an idea on how to deal with the doppleganger?
”Well the last one seemed to be susceptible to our spells and weapons...”
"If we get the chance, I'd like to talk to this one...see if there's a bigger scheme in the works or something. If not, well, it is what it is, I guess."Rees says, looking up from the chest. "Grom? Do you recognize these items? The earrings and necklace are beautiful, I'd... uh... y'know, like them...as trinkets... but I think they belong to the people you're looking for, maybe?" Someone be impressed with how I disarmed that trap and picked the lock pls.
She holds up the needle that was embedded in the lock. "This one would have, too."
As you hold the three inch long needle up the light catches it and you notice about an inch of it is lightly coated with a translucent green liquid starting from the point.
I was just going to smash it. The last lock poked me with a sticker. Talien tells Rees.
"You really are a brute you know," Corkie says as she looks Talien up and down, "Nice job Rees.. That is the Hucrele family crest inlaid on the ring and armor, never seen the earrings before, but I'm sure Kerowyn over at the general store will appreciate you recovering them and I'll bet she'll reward you handsomely."

Rees just shakes her head at Talien, using a spare bit of cloth to wrap the poison needle in and tuck it carefully into her bag, since she can't have shiny jewelry apparently. She'll give the rest to Grom for safekeeping since she trusts him more than Corkie.

[Owch.. you don't trust my NPCs, haha]
DM Note: The needle is coated with a poison that does 1d6 damage when the needle pierces the skin... but wrapping it in a cloth will cause some of the poison to absorb into the cloth, so 1d4 damage (gotta store these things properly).

(more than fair. I don't think she necessarily intends to use it... just keep it in her pocket. Because she likes collecting things and she gave away the bell clapper)
I'm tapped for spells at this point. Are we chasing the hobogoblin?

I think before we go anywhere we need to rest alot has transpired... and we could all use some sleep.. I think securing a room would be best

It is... Rees also found something additional. See above. If she fails the Dex chest... you’re welcome to try and break the chest open [AC 15, HP 6].
