The mayor sighs, "Yes, yes.. what'd I say 50 gold pieces?"
He said 200 gp when Grom and I were here. What roll do you want me to make - persuasion, history, intimidation?
It depends how you want to RP it. If you want to be forceful and flex on him roll intimidation. If you want to be diplomatic roll persuasion. If you just want to remind him then roll history. All DC 10 - I'm just trying to impress the fact that the mayor is a bit of an @$$.
why hello Marigold. I am the one and only Chatra Dalwin. Surely as a fellow bard you have heard of me. So my friend what brings you down this abandoned road if I may ask. From what I was told it is not traveled by many.

Mr Mayor, Just yesterday afternoon you offered my colleage Grom and I 200gp for our group to figure out what was killing people and cattle. We figured it out. We expect you to honor your offer.

Marigold responds in kind, "Alas.. I have not heard of Chatra Dalwin.. but, Faerun is far and wide. Am I right? We can't all play Waterdeep, Neverwinter, or Baldur's Gate.. now can we?" He pauses as if to think, "Hmm.. I thought this road did seem a tad.. dusty. But, I just figured everyone would be gathering at Oakhurst for the Summer Solstice already... I am playing the festival after all!" He decrees haughtily.

The mayor shoots Alten an irritated glance. "Ahh, yes quite right.. do forgive me I have only just woken up. 200 gold pieces it is then. Though.. it doesn't seem like you did much to earn it. This thing doesn't appear to be much of a threat to Oakhurst."
"That is because we stopped it, you repugnant buffoon," Arxius finally speaks. "If it has ventured from the Citadel then Oakhurst would hardly seem a trifle to it. Who knows how many more of them there may be? Be grateful we did not leave you to your fate with your underappreciated guard."
Sir, that thing was one of four that we killed. They shoot poison needles. They injured two of our party. We went out there at your behest. We earned the money you promised.
"Well I never!" The mayor exclaims as he yanks off his nightcap. He grips it in a stranglehold and through gritted teeth screams at Felosial, "Get these ruffians out of my home this instance!" Throwing the nightcap to the ground, he storms out of the room calling behind his shoulder, "See to it they are paid, but I do not want them setting foot in here again!"
Felosial stands mouth agape for a moment, before bursting out with laughter. "Haha! You certainly told that old fool off! He gets so cranky and worked up around elections.. it's a wonder his heart hasn't exploded yet!"
“The truth of the matter is mayor Leng has been in office for years, because nobody has ran against him. The people here are mostly simple farmers, craftsmen, and a few noble merchants. He gets worked up for no reason! Though this year people believe something might change... they’ve been asking Garon to run for office.. he is so good with all the townspeople. Anyway, let’s get you paid shall we?”
Felosial leads you out of the Village Hall and back over to the jail where she asks you to wait outside while she retrieves your payment. She returns after a few minutes with a bag small sack and hands it to you saying, “Thank you for assisting the town and for putting Mayor Leng in his place. Don’t worry about him by the way, you’re always welcome here. Good luck to you in the citadel and if you learn anything further that may effect the town, please come see me.”
with your superb lute playing and marvelous singing! I’m am surprised you are performing here in this little farm town. Even though your talent is worthy of the crowds of waterdeep or neverwinter I understand we all need whatever coin we can gather.
But unto more important matters , my sir. Have you seen anything unusual on your journey here. I am heading from to from where you hence came from.
Maybe something I should be weary of that you may have seen?

Marigold laughs, “Ho now! You jest. Tis’ true I have played in all of the splendid cities, but you must know that every great artist travels to broaden their horizons. Why.. you must be traveling yourself.. for if you were not how would we have this chanced encounter? Unless you are.. as you say.. a performer of small farm towns..But, no.. not you... it can’t be... you must be here taking note of what you see and composing the most glorious of ballads.. is this not the life of every great bard? As you say I have journeyed far and see many an unusual thing.. but you must wait for my next composure to hear them. You are obviously a fan you knew my song and tune! Did you not sing along whilst I arrived here? I dare say but, you must have wonders of your own to tell! Unless of course you are a Marco Volo! Ha! Ho! Now that was cruel of me.. forgive me this slight if you will for I have a proposal for you! Let us preform for these two sitting here looking glum.. yes.. we’ll have a bard’s duel of two for two! We each sing a song and we each play a tune and the — gets this bag of gold!”
With that Marigold produces a small pouch and lets it drop at your feet with a loud “clang”.
How kind of you but I cannot just steal your gold like that. For who would be the judge. We have no crowds to entertain. And no I am not the infamous Marco Volo. I am a hero of the realms that seems no one in these parts have heard of it seems. For the world I have traveled and tunes of my ventures I have played. But in these parts they seem to fray. For all they know is the citadel foes and woes. But I am here to save the day and rid of the ones that make them all their prey. But surely I will play some tunes with you if you shall stay. But I warn you my sir, when my company returns we will be off to this citadel to save the day.

Glad to be of service. Hopefully we will return shortly, safe and prosperous from our adventure in the Citadel. May Torm guide your blade in battle against his enemies.
