and then Chatra burst out playing a tale of how the three are well traveled and revered heroes. It goes on a bit about how the here to save this land from its woes and the glory that they will surely acclaim.
“Very well done! Well done in deed!” Marigold chortles as he claps his hands daintily. He then scoops up the bag of gold, takes out another coin, and tosses it to you. “For your song and for your dinner.. I wouldn’t want to see a colleague starve.”
He puts the bag of gold away, then removes a lyre out of his velvet bag. “I believe it is my turn now,” he says with a slight bow as he strums the lyre and begins his ballad...

He seems satisfied enough with the 2 shorter ranged attacks and moves back over to the newcomer, interrupting his song and says. I am not a golem, I am a warforged. Spread this with your song. He says this as what appears to be with a slight agitation.
Chatra you don’t know why, but the ballad starts to irritate you for a moment. But, when the verse changes from elven to common you relax again.
Marigold finishes his song and cradles his lyre. With a frown he says, “Hmm.. there is more to you than meets the eye Chatra Dalwin. Maybe you aren’t such a Marco Volo after all. I will have to keep an eye out for you and an ear.. Who knows.. maybe you’ll be as good as me some day.”
With that Marigold returns his lyre to his bag and starts to walk away, “I must be going now. Festivals to prepare for and all. Goodbye Chatra.. I do so hope our paths cross again soon. Oh, and good luck with saving the day and all that!”

Talien makes about half his shots. One bolt even hits another and splits it down the middle. But, his very last shot disappears into the woods. A flock of birds scatters and flies over the field. Talien hears a plop as a thick white glob lands on his shoulder. He looks down and sees it also has spots of dark purple and contains lots of little blackberry seeds.
We find our noble band of adventurers united once more on the Old Road approaching the Sunless Citadel. They have filled each other in over the seven mile walk and now finish the last leg in silence as the heat of the summer day beats down upon their brows. The terrain over the last few miles slowly transitions from fields full of summer's bounty to those of loose dusty soil and rock as the Old Road skirts the Ashen Plain, a tragically lifeless area. Songbirds can no longer be heard overhead and the plants that do survive here are shriveled and dry from living in ground that looks thirsty and cracked.
The Old Road passes to the east of a narrow ravine. At the road’s closest approach to the cleft, several broken pillars jut from the earth where the ravine widens. Two of the pillars stand straight, but most lean atop sloped earth. Others are broken, and several have apparently fallen into the dark depths. A few similar pillars are visible on the opposite side of the ravine. A sturdy, knotted rope is tied to one of the leaning pillars on this side of the ravine.
So we have to go down the rope? Talien asks the others, as he reaches over and pulls firly on the rope making sure it would carry his weight as he would decend. He then pulls the other side of the rope, seeing if it is attached to something. If it is, he will pull firmy, if it is not he will pull the rope all of the way up for inspection UNLESS someone stops him (I assume it is a long rope so it could take several minutes.)
As Ungrim flies up into the sky he can see that the ravine runs for several miles in either direction, with an average depth of 200 feet and width of 30 feet. At the point where it most closely intersects the Old Road, it widens to 60 feet. Ungrim circles and flies down into the ravine, but only gets about 50 feet down at which point he lands on top of some sort of platform. The platform is wide but rough. Sand, rocky debris, and the bones of small animals litter it.
As Ungrim stands still his eyes suddenly go cloudy and Grom can see the area. There is evidence of a few small campfires and it appears someone went to some effort to hide the evidence of a camp from casual scrutiny by spreading the ash and debris around. You can see now this platform is actually the top of what used to be the Sunless Citadel’s tower, though whatever grandeur it displayed in the past is now ruined due to the elements.
Ungrim hops over to the edge of the platform and Grom can see it overlooks a subterranean gulf of darkness to the west. Looking down reveals that there is a rough-hewn stairwell zigs and zags down its side and descending into darkness. When Ungrim looks back up he can see the rope descending down onto the platform.
Alten you can see the pillars are worn and broken. Graffiti in the dwarvish alphabet covers most of them. Alten you translate the graffiti, but it still doesn’t make any sense to you. The runes seem to be out of order and some seem to be missing.
The rope tied to one of the leaning pillars hangs down into the darkness of the ravine. Judging by its good condition, the rope couldn’t have been tied there any longer than two or three weeks ago. From the edge of the ravine, older and weathered handholds and footholds can be seen carved into the cliff face. These are goblin-carved. You conclude from your investigation that you should be able to easily climb down the knotted rope, using the wall to brace yourselves — but using the carved indentations is also an option, albeit a slower and harder one.
DM Note: The Sunless Citadel plunged into the ravine ages past. Here is the top of the tower descending downwards to help with the description...
The rope seems to check out, Talien ties another rope around his waist and to the pillar that will allow him to only move about 5 feet down on the previously attached rope before his new rope ends. He tests the previous rope with all his weight and gear.
a.) if the old rope holds his weight and does not appear to be straining, he will climb back up and retrieve his current rope, and continue down first
b.) If there is any doubt to the previous rope, he will tie a new rope to match the current length of the previous rope and continue on down first
As he starts to go back over the edge the second time, he says to the group. I will go first. once there is slack in the rope, continue after me. We should go down one at a time
You both climb down easily using the old rope and the wall to brace yourselves. You see Ungrim at the bottom. He cocks his head and observes you. Up top, Grom can see you have descended safely.
Talien says to the bird (not quiet understanding the mind messages before or how magic works) GROM! CAN YOU HEAR ME? YOU CAN COME DOWN NOW!!! To Alten he turns and says, He spoke to me in my mind the first day I met everyone...how do I know if he is always listening?
Once Rees and Arxius arrive Talien will say You still never explained how I can make a baby. Do you have that diagram?
When he talks to you in your mind, you can immediately answer him with a brief message. You have to speak out loud, but you can whisper your message back, so there is less chance of giving your position away. We used that spell back in our war games back when I was training. The time you have to respond after he finishes is only a few seconds.

I have been yelling at him this whole time Alten. Talien replies, Your mages here have very different spells than home. Our mages cant make birds that I have ever seen, or talk in your mind. They have spells to create things like water from thin air, and giant fire wall, and summon a storm...The magic I have seen here is more...(he searches for the word and cant find it, so he settles on)...less powerful.

The Sunless Citadel, Chapter 3: The Ravine

While Talien is pulling up the rope, I make a quick scan around the immediate area to see if anyone else is around.
Chatra you said the Bard you met came from this direction? Did he mention going down there? Why would he leave his rope?

Chatra remarks he did not really say
Grom will summon ungrim back from pocket plane.
Grom pets ungrim and says "alright lil buddy fly down and take a look and see if you can see anything."
Perception for ungrim he has advantage on sight perception and a +4 16
When he gets down there from will sit down as he will go blind and see thru ungrims eyes and tell the group what he sees

If you need it: flat roll: 6 +1 for Perception or -1 for Investigation
Also, Alten did give everybody their share of the money for the blights, 33gp, 3sp, 3cp each
