Why is the dragon being free bad? You were in a cage like it was too Shake. Did you like it better there? Maybe I should try out a cage. Does not seem like there would be much to do....
Shake looks pityingly at Talien, "You are so right my friend. Being trapped, caged, is horrible. And no sentient being should be put in that position, UNLESS they are a danger to innocent people around them. Talien, just imagine that somebody was threatening to murder your friends and companions. From what I know about you, you would do what you could to protect your friends, even if that meant imprisoning the one threatening them. Unfortunately, Dragons are a danger to everybody and everything. If you don't believe me then ask the infant Kobold we left frozen solid back in that cave." Shake gestures behind them.
"But in general, what you said is right Talien. I am just a simple bard. No danger to anyone." Shake looks at Alten. "Only a monster would cage an innocent sentient being who is no danger to anybody." Shake looks at Alten more closely, as if trying to look inside of him. "Or perhaps not a monster, but just somebody who is tired, frustrated and their judgment impaired."
As they continued to speak about a "leader" Rees found herself growing uncomfortable, as she always did when Alten tried to put her in that position. Making one decision not to fight a child, even a dragon child, did not put her in charge. She didn't want to be a leader, she just wanted to get paid enough to sleep in an actual bed for at least one night. "Enough, all of you. If there really is a dragon around, you lot are going to bring it right to us with your bickering. Shake, if you listen instead of speak for once you'd hear that Alten wasn't actually talking about cutting you out - he said that already. But also, it's pretty clear that you're not 'just a simple bard' and if we're going to continue together a little honesty would do you a lot of good. Alten, he's not wrong -- you've been different. Granted, we've known each other for what, a week? So maybe you were just on your best behavior before and this is the real you. To be perfectly honest, I don't care. Once we get paid if we all want to go our separate ways, then fine. I thought we worked well together but if I was mistaken then go with whatever god you serve. But please, let's finish this first?"
"By the gods you men are annoying," Rees says, walking more quickly to put distance between herself and the bickering. She shot a look to Arxius as if to ask what now?
Shake has gotten to Alten (certainly living up to his name). Alten deliberately tosses the glaive to the side and hooks his hands in his belt. He steps toward Shake, red in the face and yelling.
You talk too much. Twist words and stories to suit your needs without understanding. And apparently willing to lie about anything. But you clearly have all the answers don't you? Whether or not you have the facts doesn't seem to matter.
You say you thought I was the leader? WRONG! I'm the soldier whose role is to fight and protect my teammates. I'm not the leader of this group. We figured that out before we met you.
Alten deliberately turns his back on Shake, takes a deep breath, trying to get himself under control. He looks back at the original group.
Six of us contracted to do a job. Only five of that group completed the job. If you guys think he deserves Chatra's share, whatever. A fifth would be great but I was only expecting a sixth. Let's just get back to town and get paid. What happens after that, I don't know. And at this moment, I don't really care.
Alten picks up the Glavie and then starts walking back towards the town.

"A wild creature will do as it must, that does not mean it deserves to be caged. Perhaps the dragon has simply gone to the mountains," Arxius says, annoyed with the references to the leader. "We should get to the village and finish the job."
Shake raises his hands in surrender. "I'm sorry. Clearly we are all a bit tired and frustrated. I myself was stuck in that cage for days before you all saved me and I am very grateful for being released. I clearly bothered you by asking for clarification of your activities before you met me. I understand if you want to keep your secrets. To be clear, I never asked to be given Chatra's share, but I am asking now, please don't... What was Alten's phrase again? Oh yes, please don't 'knock me out and put my ungrateful ass back in the cage where you found me.' Rees may imagine me to be more than I appear, but I assure you that I am not omnipotent and consigning me to such a fate would surely kill me."
"It was my call to let the dragon go. Well, me and Arxius. Talien agreed, if I recall correctly. None of us was willing to fight a caged child simply for existing as what it is. If you want to tell the people of Oakhurst that, then go ahead. It wouldn't be the first place I've run from with people wanting to kill me and it probably won't be the last. But the next person who implies that somehow makes us the leaders of this group is absolutely getting their ass locked in a cage and I will walk away with no regrets. Why does there have to be a leader? Why can't we just let people use their strengths when it's appropriate and make decisions as a gods damned group?"

After listening to Rees Shake's voice becomes solemn. "I see. I can tell that the decision was not made lightly and was made with the best of intentions. Thank you for your candor, Rees. I promise that if I do put these events to song or lyrical verse I will reflect your sincerity, your goodwill and your fortitude of spirit. A choice had to be made, and you made it. It is only those with truly noble spirits who can face all the consequences of their actions, both wonderful and grievous. I understand that you are not the leader, but I also understand why others follow you."
Alten has walked away and ignoring further discussions.
But if she want to ask him when he's listening, he'll tell her why units have to have a leader and followers to accomplish the mission. Otherwise it turns to chaos and people get killed needlessly because everyone is working to their own ends.

Temper temper... How about you don't drop, or discard me so easily in your anger?
I wasn't discarding you. Just making sure I didn't use you to kill him.
What's your impression of our "friend" Shake?
Hrrmm... very well, but don't make a habit of it. Hrrmm.. Our friend Shake here seems to have his secrets, but I don't believe he means any harm and does genuinely want to stay with your ragtag group.
Hmph, it doesn't make sense. If a group rescued me from a cage, I would be grateful. Not looking to cause problems for them by spreading lies -- if I really wanted to be their friend. And where was he during that Deathlock fight? We heard him talking but I'm pretty sure I never actually saw him until afterwards. Did you see him?
