Ports, by their very nature, are unclean, noisy, crowded, and constantly busy places where few outsiders are welcome. Waterdeeps Dock Ward fits this mold, though its notoriety and bedlam are, if nothing else, slightly muted by the tales told up and down the Sword Coast. It was best described, by a wizard of no little note, as a riotous, semi-stationary but nigh-perpetual brawl that covers entire acres and is interrupted only by small buildings, intermittent trade business, an errant dog or two, and a few brave watchmen (who do manage to keep the chaos from spreading beyond the docks), the whole lot wallowing in the stench of rotting fish. Still, in all, was quite a lusty, intriguing place to spend an evening.
City watch patrols and guard contingents keep this ward in a semblance of order, traveling in well-armed groups of eight during the day and groups of twelve or more after dusk. Many of the roads are gravel-packed dirt, once the docks and cobblestone access roads to the Way of the Dragon are left behind. The dark, mud-strewn alleys are endless in Dock Ward, and they hide many dangers, despite the alertness of Waterdeeps defenders, so travel in large, heavily armed groups if you must.
Dock Wards boundaries, quickly stated, are the harbor and the southern boundaries of Castle and Trades Wards. The northern boundary runs north and east on Lackpurse Lane to Belnimbras Street, over and down Gut Alley, and turns east to Shesstras Street. Moving east and turning south onto Book Street, the boundary moves east again on Drakiir Street until it meets the Way of the Dragon, the eastern perimeter of Dock Ward. The southern border of the ward is, of course, the docks and the harbor.
Architecture
Despite being the oldest settled area of Waterdeep, Dock Ward consists of many wooden structures all built upon each other with a few stone buildings to provide structural support for the rest. While people worked and lived here for 1000 years before Ahghairons rule, few buildings last for more than 30 years. The only permanent constructions that have existed for extensive periods of time in Dock Ward are the docks themselves, as well as the protective harbor walls and the towers of Deepwatch Isle. With the relatively new cobblestone streets along the docks providing easier access to trade routes within the city, talk is circulating of updating and improving buildings along those routes. As far as the Lords are concerned, any improvements here are definitely for the better.
You have some time before the Crimson Dawn is scheduled to arrive.
What are you planning on doing ? There are several places around you can walk into, taverns or shops or you can stay at the Sea Watch, a special detachment of Watchmen who control and police the ships and the immediate docks.
After being led by Alton around the area “I appreciate your assistance in the matter, all of you. But this is definitely not efficient. Especially if we get into a fight. I won’t be a liability being dragged around. Maybe we can pick up some rope or harness and fashion a saddle for Alton or Kwiz? You guys know how to ride a horse right?” As he gives a slight chuckle that fades off into a thinly veiled depressed sigh.
"I have no experience riding a horse. I have lived most of my life in the city and in a poor family that could never afford one." Alton says as he looks around, considering where to go. As he walks his hand will stay close to his weaponsm
Kwisatz just looks puzzled saying "I don't see how a horse riding through this area would be at all conductive. It's crowded streets and dirty roads. We're certainly better off on foot so that we'll be better able to deal with anything we come across..." continuing "Perhaps we should head to the Sea Watch. We were told only to look out for anything suspicious.. but that's a rather lot down here. The Watchmen of the docks could perhaps help us know what exactly is suspicious, as well as give us information about the Black Brothers, or the ship and it's captain itself so that we may have a better idea of for what precisely we're to be looking.
"Forgive me but I dont have much training on horseback either, my father didn't think it would be helpful in the watch" Darien will look around for any suspicious activity
"Good idea Kwis. Maybe the Sea watch will know if where The Crimson Dawn will be berthing. Maybe scout the area out before it arrives."
Now that we are in the docks Umdrak will be watching out for any of the Black Hammer weapons, tattoos or insignia that were described by the Sergeant. (Perception 16)
Umdrak and Darien scan the crowd near the docking area and the ships already moored up at the quayside while trailing after Kwiz and the others to the Seawatch Tower.
Just waiting before a tavern are several men with various tattoos and you see one sporting a hammer on the side of his neck. They are lazing around and have a great view of the empty docking areas.
(OOC: To clarify you were asked to look for anything suspicious about the Black Brothers and the Crimson Dawn. Looking for suspicious activity at the docks is the watch's job.. and almost to easy to catch. )
At the Tower Kwisatz will ask about when and where the Dawn will be docking. His plan is to send Duncan ahead to watch the ship as they are preparing to dock.
As Kwiz heads up to the desk to ask about the ship Umdrak whispers to the others. "Looks like there a few men at the tavern we past that were sporting the mark of the Black Brothers. I assume they are waiting for the same ship we are."
Alton will go with Kwiz to find where the ship is going to be moored, keeping close so that at the very least be would be with someone else if anything strange happened.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Heading near the dock with Alton, Kwisatz will send Duncan up to scout ahead for the Crimson Dawn. Telling Duncan to report back when he sees the ship, and to see if he can tell what the sailors aboard are doing to prepare for docking.
"If they are going to head off towards the ship without us. Then maybe we should take a look....." Pausing for a second Umdrak shoots a glance at Idozu. "I mean maybe we should investigate the Floating Barrel. Maybe catch word of what the Black Brothers are up to."
If the other three agree the Umdrak will help lead Idozu towards the Tavern.
Idozu puts his hand on Darian and says “Now Umdrak, I may have lost my sight, but that doesn’t mean you need to tip toe around me. Just be normal.” He pats Darian on the shoulder. He continues his point about a saddle “No, not a horse.... me. I’m the horse. Instead of leading me by hand I could have one of you on my back. You could lead me where to go hands free and I still soak up the damage like a sponge! It’s a win win, you see all we need to do is ...”. As he rambles on about essentially a baby bjorn.
( Are you taking any precaution before going into the tavern. Grey Cloak. I know Umdrak is still wearing it.)
Duncan flies over the bay od Waterdeep and takes some time to find the right ship. Finally, the crow sees the red sails flapping lazily in the wind. There is much activity on the deck in preparation for the arrival in Waterdeep.
"I guess for now all we can do is wait for the ship to arrive. I see that the others have gone to check other leads." Alton says as he looks towards the water where the bird had come back from.
The Black Brothers look at you as you go by. One is about to say something but a stern look from the leader shuts him up.
The tavern: Often called a "swill hall" by those who've heard of it, it is a place that literally does nothing else but serves terribly cheap alcoholic swill for sailors to drink away their coins. It offers no accommodations, but no one cares if its patrons pass out under their tables.
The barkeep looks up when you get in but discards you almost as fast. He is a mean looking dwarf.

The man behind the desk is busy and very dismissive of you.
He goes through the books and finally finds what you are looking for. " Dock 8, second mooring. Should be here within the hour. "
He hasn't bothered to look you in the eye and is already back to his business.

The tavern is called the "Floating Barrel". It is the watering hole of many sailors and songs, ale, and fun can be had there. Even early in morning.
Alton will go with Kwiz to find where the ship is going to be moored, keeping close so that at the very least be would be with someone else if anything strange happened.

Duncan flies over the bay od Waterdeep and takes some time to find the right ship. Finally, the crow sees the red sails flapping lazily in the wind. There is much activity on the deck in preparation for the arrival in Waterdeep.
When he returns Kwisatz will ask Duncan if among that activity he saw anything unusual. Maybe hiding objects, covering things up, etc.
