A young man answers Soar. "Nobody's lived there since old man Lif the tavern-keeper; don't know much more about the place, I'm afraid. Why, what's it to you?"
”I see no reason why you shouldn't join us, just to check it out though, we don't need the deed to be stretched even thinner” Dwaye says to the Half-Elf before walking towards the manor.
[As I said before, I'd much prefer if we weren't playing with Unearthed Arcana stuff, it isn't as balanced as the other books, in my opinion, it is still in the playtesting phase, so that makes sense, but I'd like it if we weren't using it in an actual campaign]
Soar replies to the young man who answered, "Not much at the moment, but we might be looking to move in, possibly spruce the place up a bit." She introduces herself in a charming manner, and concludes, "what do you think people around here would like to see happen with the place?"
She greets the purple-eyed man who asks if he can follow them kindly, but a bit shortly. "What's your story? How'd you find us and why would you like to follow us? And yes Dwaye has a point about the deed."
She's ready to enter, but as they get close, she asks her companions: "what's our plan? If we see ghosts, what are we doing? I'd suggest that if they're evil, we smoke them. But if they're just protective, we may be able to live with that for a bit. Basically, if it's the hag who ate kids, we're taking her out. If it's this Lif the tavern-keeper, he might be fun. My brethren are a "turn first, ask questions later" sort when it comes to undead. I'd like to be able to give some of them a try. Then again it could just be some neighborhood kids sneaking in and making noises at night and that's why people think it's haunted. Guess we're about to find out. This is so exciting!"
“Agreed Soar, it is very exciting! I have to wonder if by haunted, it is like stories told to kids to keep them out of places they shouldn’t be. I’m not really worried.” Having said that, Alton settles down in front of the place and begins a ritual casting of detect magic.
Ghosts. Nothing I can really do if they are real. I should have listened to my folks and become a real wizard.
Once finished casting, he approaches the house with the rest of the party.
If it is dark inside, he will light a lantern with a wave of his hand using prestidigitdation. He approaches a smudged window from the outside, wiping a sleeve on it to get rid of any grime, and shines the lantern through to see what might be within.
"Oh, well welcome to the neighborhood! I think most people would be happy just to see the place occupied by the living again, if you know what I mean? You should introduce yourselves to the people of the Alley if you do move in, in any case." With that the young man goes back to sweeping up horse manure from the streets, as that is his job.
Alton takes a peek in the window of the first floor; the window is grimy and the room is dark, even with his lantern shining in, but he is able to see several tables, a fireplace and a bar stand inside.
Jal answers, "I am Jal Mrithum. I have come seeking redemption, and woman who serves a god seems like the right place. I have been looking for a paladin, priest, or cleric to do seek it out. I was expecting to go to the church, but found you first. I follow Tyr, god of Justice. I hope to help and follow you. I have found I have an ability I call Precognition, so that would very much help you all in entering into this supposedly haunted manor."

“What are you seeking redemption for?” Alton asks Jal. The halfling turns to face him, recognizing now that this is not just a stranger on the street but someone that needs to be addressed. “What justice? We are just simple folk.”
What is this person playing at? How does he know that Soar is a paladin?
He stands near the door, only prevented from opening it by his curiosity at the stranger.
Is he tied to this place somehow? Is he a ghost himself?
Alton watches the newcomer with eyes searching for magic auras. His hand is on the door, prepared to push.

"Well I'm always happy to help someone, but I'm not really a priest who can hear confessions or anything. And my god deals with death more than day-to-day moral questions," Soar says to Jal. "What did you do that requires redemption?" She explains a bit about how they got the deed to this place, and the little bits about what they've heard. "So we're trying to see what's inside. If you'd like to help us, I think my friends here could be amenable to that."
As she gets closer to Alton's lamp looking into the window, her eyes go cloudy with a pale green light, which illuminates the room briefly. She starts a bit and her eyes come back to their normal ice blue.
"I am sensing a definite source of undead behind this window," Soar says to her companions (OOC: she should know the location, even if it's hard to see details in the only-slightly-lit room, and she may be able to identify the type if she can put eyes on it).
"Anyone want to go see what's there, follow us," she says, hand on her warhammer but not hefting it yet, following right behind Alton.
(Soar senses a disembodied spirit, straight ahead.)
Alton is the first to push the creaky door, entering silently while looking for signs of magical auras. Soar and the rest of the party (unless ya'll say otherwise) funnel in after the halfling. You can smell dust in the air; thick cobwebs cover all corners of the room. It doesn't look like anyone living has been here in quite some time.
The party explores the first floor a little; behind the bar is a hatch down into the basement, and there is a pantry filled with spoiled food and a kitchen with a cold oven. So far no sightings of a ghost of any kind.
While your backs are to the bar, a loud CRASH is heard; when you investigate it would seem that a ceramic plate fell to the floor.
"Hello? Is anyone here?" Soar says in a gentle voice. She tries brief greetings in common, celestial, infernal, elvish, and dwarvish (forgot about this - her half-elf and acolyte background give her lots of languages!!).
Soar looks near where the plate fell and uses another divine sense to see if she can spot the spirit and discern anything more about it. Her hand has not left the haft of her warhammer at her belt. "We'd like to help. In fact, we think this place has lost a bit of its former glory, and are wondering if someone here could use some help bringing some fun and some mischief back to Trollskull Manor. My name is Soar. I'd love to know more about you."
(Soar is operating under the optimistic view that the ghost might just be an old employee, or even Lif, who is frustrated that the tavern's gone abandoned. Her hope is that she gets to actually talk to a ghost, maybe even befriend one, which is something that her trainers at the chapterhouse probably have never done, because they think Kelemvor sees all undead as blasphemy, but she's not 100% convinced that's true. She believes in people too much. She's not quite prepared for the possibility that it's the hag that eats children... but she's got enough training drilled into her that her hand has not left her warhammer and she's ready to smite the crap out of anything that seems evil, rather than just mischievous.)
"GHOST!" Ignis shouts while spinning around, trying to find the author of the dusty message. "Come out you fiend! I'm gonna start burning things things if you don't!" Ignis preps a ball of fire in each hand via the Produce Flame cantrip. As he says this, his hair begins to glow ominously...

A man walks over to the party. He asks the paladin, "May I follow you and your companions?"
He seems to be nothing much, except his purely purple eyes.

Soar does, indeed, sense the presence of the unliving. Alton's detect magic reveals that the place is otherwise mundane.
Jal says to Alton, "I have said too much. It seems you are together for a reason, and I would like to follow."

In the dust covering the bar, you notice writing as if done with someone's finger: "What will you have?"
