A wide smile appears on his face, though it then drops when he hears about the hurting people. "Really! That is amazing, with it being you not the hurting people. You are the people I was coming to Nightstone to find. The mysterious entities were right. You are the ones to fix the ordning and make sure this doesn't happen again. I assure you I had no knowledge of this attack and am horrified to learn that others of my kind would do such a thing. I wish to help you but have been warned by the same beings who told me I would find you here that I can't get too involved, so I will take you to one location of your choice and then leave you. Where would you wish to go?"
Zook is astounded to learn that his name and reputation has reached the ears of a cloud-dwelling giant. He addresses the immense being with a tone of humble wonder.
"Mr. Giant, how exactly are we to fix the ordning and make sure these things don't happen again? And how did you hear of us? I know know what it's like to speak in riddles, but to my ears, and with all due respect, these are riddles I can't even begin to guess the answers to."
Mandaway gasped, " We are to fix the ordning?", he whispered almost to himself.
He knew of the ordning of course, one could not live among giants for as long as he had and not, " We are but small folk as you say, how can creatures such as us restore proper order to the mightiest of folk?"
Is this why you have preserved me......is this my task, Eldath?
"I know not how, I have been contacting an entity from another plane for answers since the ordning shattered, and after many failed attempts I finally got an answer. Your names were mentioned, as was Nightstone, and I was told not to get too involved. But that was it. So where can I be taking you?"
He looks very eccentric and excited about traveling with you.
Same. I'm assuming that Zook doesn't know anything about this term either. Nor is he familiar with the term "web searches," having spent so many years at the monastery.
So...
The gnome look at the giant and asks, "My dear giant, what is "The Ordning" you speak of, and what exactly is out of order that needs to be repaired?"
"Of course, that is the least of my questions for such a being like you."
"The ordning defined the hierarchy of giants, both as a species with storm giant at the top and hill giant at the bottom. But also within saying which giant in a clan is the top. But now is now more and giant fight giants for position at the top."
"Like rain, like snow, now and then. It sounds as if giants are no different than men," Zook replies in a solemn tone. "We don't have a hierarchy of gnomes, but then again, we are all he same size... and we only come in small."
"At any rate, before we took a wondrous detour into your floating tower, we were walking to the village of Goldenfields to return this furry winged creature to it's next of owner kin. If you were to deliver us there, or better yet, accompany us, we would be most grateful. And it would allow time for more questions."
"At any rate, before we took a wondrous detour into your floating tower, we were walking to the village of Goldenfields to return this furry winged creature to it's next of owner kin. If you were to deliver us there, or better yet, accompany us, we would be most grateful. And it would allow time for more questions."
" Aye, we've nowhere else to be.....unless you happen to know where the Nightstone is...I'm sure the town would like their landmark back."
Bert is just looking around at the tower, trying to figure out how it works, looking for interesting details, and trying to see if there are other creatures there. He's become speechless.
"Nightstone the town is about a day's walk that way" and Bert points the way they came. "Nightstone the stone is somewhere else, carried away in a flying castle, according to the residents. Those residents are trying to rebuild their town right now. We've had to fight off goblins, orcs, and thieves who wanted to take the town away. It's been an ordeal. I'd love to show you my maps -- I'm a cartographer! We can compare notes over the next three days and figure out what's going on. Entities, you said? Do you know anything about them? I am very curious how they know our names. We just stumbled across the town. I don't think anyone should really know our names. I know some of the giant language because I spent time among your people making maps. Mandy over here has even more experience. May I also ask what you do when you aren't trying to fix your people's social structure? Did you build this tower? How does it fly? Where have you taken it? Are you sure you want us asking questions for three days?" Bert says, smiling, dropping in and out of Giant, and trying to translate for Zook. He's happy to settle in and look at the view, sending his owl out on ventures to get a really good look at the tower's structure.
(Did Haliztham... I know I spelled that wrong... leave? Maybe slept through the tower's arrival?)(Also I assume Hawk stayed in Nightstone? Along with Krakkan and Forge, who dropped off a while ago...)
Listening intently to Bert’s translations, Zook alternates his time in the flying tower by enjoying the breathtaking views as they soar high above the land, playing songs on his flute that match this majestic experience and taking brief periods of mediation. He takes great pleasure and wonder from looking at the beautiful views of nature from this unique vertical vantage point, and he suddenly realizes that it’s very much like looking at Bert’s maps. And, of course, he finds plenty of time for questions.
He starts with the obvious ones, like “How many stones do you weigh?... How is it that you giant folk are so big, but so elusive at the same time? We regular folk rarely ever see you! At least, I have never seen a giant before. Are there good giants and evil giants?... With such long legs, how far can you walk in a day?... Do giants have cities and towns like us?... Who is the strongest and most powerful giant of all?... Do giants have things like books and money?... Do you have a wife and children?... Do giants have music?”
As the time progresses, his inquiries begin to cover more introspective topics, like, “Where did giants come from and how did they get so big?... How do giants view us smaller folk?... According to giants, what is the meaning of life and what do you think about when you look up at the sky... or rather, when you look out across it?... Being so big and immeasurably strong, is there anything in the world that you fear?”
(Yes, I think that Halizthan has officially left us, so we probably neeed to find another replacement. Hopefully Hawk will return soon... Zook misses him terribly.)
Mandaway had no wish to add to the aged giants headaches by asking questions of his own, though he wondered how different his time would have been if it had been cloud giants he had lived with....then again it could have been worse...it could have been Hill Giants....or Fomorians.....
He spent most of the next few days watching the scenery drift by and enjoying the relative peace and quiet.
You will get answers (if any of them you want a specific answer for let me know, otherwise you just get told them), but a lot of the time, Zephyros levitates up to the second floor (there is a hole in the middle of the tower going up 2 floors, no way to climb only fly, 100ft up for the second floor, a further 80 for the top one) and controls the flight from there. Bert, you see some griffons on the top level that the giant treats as cats.
On the second day of your journey, you spot nine very thin and lightly armoured humans riding giant vultures. They land atop the cloud, whereupon the humans dismount. All the riders wear steel helms that cover their eyes and resemble stylized bird heads. One of them is equipped with a shoulder bag adorned with a smiling face. The riders approach the tower while the vultures stay at the edge. Zephyros is asleep on the next level.
" Does one of you have that Message spell? Does that work on sleeping people?", Mandaway said carefully as he watches the riders approach, he also keeps an ear out for the griffons in case they decide to have vulture for lunch.
The sight of the nine flying riders grabs Zooks attention away from his quiet period of sleepily gazing out at the clouds. He watches with keen interest as the strange bird men begin to approach the tower. Grabbing his staff, he moves to join his other two companions.
“I would venture to guess that a smiley face emblem means that these folk are not evil creature... but as we all know, assumptions can often be wrong.”
They approach the door and two of them start to call out "Giant who owns this tower come out. We wish to speak with you! We speak on behalf of Yan-C-Bin" (They either don't notice you or ignore you)
A wide smile appears on his face, though it then drops when he hears about the hurting people. "Really! That is amazing, with it being you not the hurting people. Mandaway turned to the others and shrugged...
Would Bert know what an ordning is? I, as the player, do not, not without web searches...
Same. I'm assuming that Zook doesn't know anything about this term either. Nor is he familiar with the term "web searches," having spent so many years at the monastery.
