It's early morning. All 7 of the figures left her but aren't heading your way. She just waved and carried on. Though you only know someone is there from Mandaway waving. Those of you who came down can't see.
When Hawk sees Mandaway wave, before even thinking (and not noticing Bert’s cautious measures) he tries to find something to climb on to see what is over where Mandy is waving!
(If he can find something to climb on and gets a view on Kella, he will wave as well; if there isn’t anything in proximity, he won’t go overly out of his way to do so)
There is a building or the city walls, they are possible to climb with your climbing speed using your claws. Kella sees you waving and waves back. You see them heading towards the drawbridge,
If Bert hears anyone say they are headed to the drawbridge he will go off quietly closer to them to observe. (Let me know what additional rolls I need!)
(Stealth: 26; Perception: 7 added belatedly in case that's helpful)
Hawk will tell Bert what he sees and then start walking down the street towards where Kella is. With no intention on being stealthy or quiet. He is on his guard though, keeping both hands on the hilts of his shortswords.
He is juggling the information in his mind: Kella works for Zhentarim? Zhentarim are apparently bad? The actions of Kella and her ‘friends’ haven’t shown any sign of being bad so far. They seem to be leaving? Is it a trap? Were the guards lying to us? I wonder how that flying cat is doing?
Approaching them Bert can hear them talking. They aren't planning on leaving but are checking the defenses. Making sure the drawbridge is in good condition and the walls aren't too damaged.
Mandaway frowned, " Whose in charge of the Zhents now? I cant remember the name of the bastard my father used to talk about. He talked big, he knew they'd never come for a crappy lumber yard."
After swimming to the other side and climbing out of the moat up onto the opposite bank, Zook scrambles up the other side and rushes up to join Hawk as he walks over to where Kella is. Without wanting to waste any time wringing out his cloak and tunic, he drips water out of this clothes and makes little squishing sounds with every step.
"Good morning, Kella! How did you sleep last night? Hopefully at peace, since there are no more goblins running around town."
Bert is staying hidden, both from Zook and Hawk, and also from the Zhentarim, getting as close as he can (near the shadows of the temple?) without risking detection. He has his bow close at hand, but not nocked or drawn.
Kella waves at Zook, "You missed one Goblin but we took care of it. That's why we were checking that the drawbridge is still up. These are my friends, we are part of the Zentarhim, sorry for lying to you about the Monk thing, though it wasn't all a lie.we are trying to turn here into a Zentarhim base, the villagers are still welcome here, if they come back. Just we are in charge now"
Bert is remaining hidden, hiding in the shadows of the temple. Hearing them claim ownership of the town, he nocks an arrow and readies himself to draw and fire should any of the Zhentarim make a move to attack his companions. He looks at the 7 mercenaries, trying to figure out who is running things and preparing to aim for that person. (Perception: 18
“What do you mean you’re turning this village into a Zhentarim base? And why wouldn’t the villagers want to come back? This is their home, after all. And when you say you’re in charge now... in charge of what? It looks to me like there’s almost nothing left here. There’s certainly no one left to be in charge of, they’ve all been killed, or have fled, except us, of course. Does that mean you’re in charge of us now too, and will you be in charge of their safety if the villagers do return? Will you protect them from the giants, or are you Zhentarim folks working in tandem with the giants who peppered this place with their rocks?”
“I’m sorry, I realize that’s a lot of questions first thing in the morning, I just find your words to be rather confusing, given the terrible events that have befallen this poor town. We should be trying to figure out what happened here and how we can prevent it from happening again. Perhaps I just need some breakfast.”
Bert, the leader is the one staying close to Kella. He is the one who replies to Zook. "the location here is ideal for us. We will be working out from here. Using it as a base of operations. And we are hoping the villagers do come back. And when they do, we will be in charge of them. You are visiters so we aren't in charge of you but while you are here you should respect us as you would other leaders. And we would try to protect them but from what Kella told us, I'm not sure what we would have done."

Mandaway watched the conversation across the way and turned to the goliath at his side, " I don't like this. Didn't Zhents used to worship the god of murder? I can't see them being polite to Zook."

Bert would like to get a sense of how dangerous this group looks. Are they bumbling around, not very impressive, or are they walking with practiced ease, seemingly powerful, confidently graceful? And if he can get a sense of what kinds of fighters we'd be looking at if there was a fight. (Insight: 4)

“In charge of them... a base of operations,” Zook repeats, now clearly on a roll. “What does that even mean, and how is it that you suddenly get to march in and decide that without consiulting the local authority? It seems to me that Nightstone already has people in charge, Lady Nader and her guards over there in the keep. And if you can’t guarantee that you can protect the locals from further attacks, then what gives you the right to proclaim yourself the new leaders of Nightstone? How will that be any better for this village?”
”And my good man, respect is earned, not demanded. At the very least, it’s given on the premise of mutual respect from both parties, which,“ then looking at Kella, briefly, ”has now been proven to be a blatant deception on one part. So far, all I have received from you and your troupe is one outright lie and a strong appearance that you’re clearly taking advantage of the horrible misfortune that has befallen the people of this village. Tell me, why did you not come before to proclaim your leadership to the local Lady, before the town was destroyed and before the villagers all ran off in fear for their lives?”
”Would you have made these proclamations were Nightstone still functioning normally? And are you willing to go discuss the matter with the current occupant of the keep? Doing so now doesn’t sound like the actions of someone who has earned my respect, rather it sounds like the words of opportunists.”
But what I know, I am but a very small gnome from the forest. I do not pretend to understand every aspect of this world, but I can see the sun and hear the wind. Can you, or is your own hand so close in front of your face that it covers your eyes? Is your own tongue so long that it covers your ears?”
As he speaks, Zook also takes time to size up the group. Insight or perception check, whichever is more relevant: 7
The group looks thuggish, with scimitars and crossbows. The leader responds to Zook, "We would have made those proclamations, when we came we didn't know about the attack. Kella filled us in, she didn't have a way of contacting us. We would have gone to the keep but we assumed it was abandoned. We will go and tell them now then. Though the bridge looks out of order"
Bert tries to hide (stealth: 17). He motions to Hawk to do the same. How many others apart from Kella are approaching? What time of day is it?

Hawk is going along with Zook, after all, he still hasn’t seen any ill intentions from her or the newcomers.
Howdy folks! The town is safe again, we got rid of the Greenie looters, however we are still unsure where the Giants went...
