Bert tries to make his way across, helping the others who may not be as agile. He tries to hold the rope steady for them, provides a secondary rope for them to hold onto just in case they slip, and he holds out his hands when they are trying to cross like an awkward stepdad.
Everyone except Mandaway gets across no problem. Mandaway almost slips and but Berts extra help gives enough help that with difficulty he gets across.
Set into the motte’s curtain wall are two windowless stone gatehouses with wood-shingled, high-pitched rooftops. Between them stands a set of oak doors with iron hinges. The doors are slightly ajar.
No one responds. The gatehouses are open but no one is there.
The keep has been heavily bombarded, and the inner bailey is strewn with rocks. Ramps lead up to the 8-foot-high stone parapet that encircles the yard. No guards are currently standing watch on the walls.
A quick search of the bailey yields the corpses of two dead human guards, both of whom were struck and killed by falling rocks.
You could enter the keep through the front door, or can climb over rubble and enter the keep through one of its shattered walls.
Hawk, hearing no answer to his calls, will open fully and enter through the front doors. He is on his guard just in case something pops out of the rubble... but will march in searching for any survivors.

After hanging on for dear life while Krakkan leaps across the gap in the drawbridge, an event he's not sure to forget anytime soon, Zook drops down from his grasp and steadies his balance the inclined drawbridge. Once everyone is across, he looks around with marvel and sadness at the incredible amount of damage that's been done to the grounds and structure here, and then joins with Hawk, staying right behind his Tabaxi companion as they enter the front door of the keep.
Entering the keep in the north West, it is very buried under rubble. There is a door on the intact East wall. Listening at the door, you hear voices discussing. They sound human.

"I'll head there too, quietly. I'm still trying to figure out where I saw that person moving before we crossed. Let me take a listen at the door to make sure they're friends."
Tired of sneaking around and sick of the killing Mandaway decided to be forthright, " Hullo, you mob alright in there?", he said as he knocked on the door.
"Well we aren't looters, and we are also concerned about giants. Haven't seen any since we got here. I'm Bert, a cartographer, and I'm here with some companions who heard there was a problem with goblins in town. I was here years ago when Nightstone... had a nightstone. What happened? Can we help? Do you think the giants are coming back?"

(who is tying the rope as everyone except Forge has crossed and I doubt Forge will tie it)

OOC: Hawk would have been the best option...
(Oops, I misunderstood, I thought Zook was tying the rope on the other side. I guess Hawk can make one of his best Tabaxi knots)
And the kitten runs around the camp, into the cubbyhole, and around once more...
Hawk recites his mnemonic as he ties the rope.

Hawk approaches the doors and then slowly pushes (or pulls) one open, while calling out:
Hello? Anybody alive in here? And not a Greenie if you can...

Bert has his eyes on where he saw movement earlier. Never one to go in the front door, Bert also climbs up the rubble quietly and alert:

" Theres a door...I'll head there."

You listen briefly:
Voice 1 "What do we do though? We are stuck here"
V2 "Lady Nander would have known"
V1 "But she was killed in the attack"
V3 "Can someone make a decision, there is no point waiting here"

We aren't hiding from goblins. We could take care of them if they found a way across. It is the giants and potential looters we are worried about
