“All right All right lets see what we got.” The old orc says as he begins to comb through the piles of equipment. “It ain’t pretty, but this should suffice. You’ll be paying it off for a couple weeks though, just so you know.” (Go ahead and make the switch of your equipment). With that everyone goes back for some dinner and rest.
Next morning at an hour that no one should e forced to wake to the door flies open with a bang. Quinton steps in. “All right you lot, time for some real work.” He unrolls a scroll and reads out a list:
Andris - Equipment/Smith
Calelle - Temple (medic)
Drakus - Patrol
Ewan - Patrol/Portal
Flux - Supply Runner
Marley - Construction/Agriculture
Report to your stations, the lead officer will orient you there.
(More RP scenarios will happen later. Everyone who didn’t get extra equipment gets 25 gold over the next three weeks and you learn your trades. Andris gets a blacksmiths kit and Calelle gets a healers kit if not already.
Ewan had gotten a decent night's rest and was always up at the crack of dawn. When the sergeant reported the duties for the day, Ewan waits until he finishes reading out the duty roster for the day, and then leaves to head to his assigned station.
(I’ll write up each work station later - I put a building layout on the campaign page to explain the building locations at the fort.)
THREE WEEKS LATER...
We meet our heroes once again, a normal morning eating breakfast in the mess hall. You’ve done some time with your own new jobs here at the fort, but plenty of time back at the bunks to stay connected.
The drow emissaries have remained at the camp. Through a heated argument about allowing animals in where food is served being a health hazard; eventually Quinton stepped in and banned the crowd from the cafeteria. This is about the only place in camp you can’t here the cawing of the birds. Some excitement on the table, one more work week until your section of the bunk halls is allowed a trip to town for a couple of days.
Then it happens again. Something that hasn’t happened for a month. DING..... DING......DING.... the alarm bells ring. The emissaries can be seen standing up and walking into two purple portals at the sound of the alarm, made by two of them reciting some incantation. You know the portal isn’t active again. The rush of the crowd stands up and begins to fill out into the courtyard. The lightening begins striking radically around as the whirring becomes higher and higher pitched. The sound almost deafening, a wind picks up and blows wildly. Then you hear it.
”Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh.” A human male flies out of the portal, landing face first and sliding on the ground. Popping up “Well that was a little less graceful than planned.” Brushing himself off.
You see the Dark elves in the courtyard apparently teleported there at the sound of the bells.
Quinton walks up with his new hammer in hand. “What’s your business here?”
The man standing up you can now see a handsome fellow with a dark blue coat, popping his collar up. His coat matches his eyes and hides a slender build, making him seem much bigger than he is. Light brown hair slicked back with a fineness comb.
he replies “Quinton! It’s always nice to meet you. What has it been? Thirteen - Fourteen times now? I’d say this place is much better than the last, you must Ben in every of the good ones.”
Taken back by the familiarity Quinton commands that the man coming out of the portal is bound and brought to a cell to figure out what’s kind of magic he is using. He calls forth your group by name (any suggestions?). “You’re the only ones to kill something from the portal, see to it he can’t escape.”
"Well this is quite interesting, first a crazy beast and now a normal speaking human, who appears to know something about Quinton but Quinton knows nothing of him. That portal is indeed quite intriguing" Flux then approaches the mysterious figure from the portal "Where exactly did you coming from? You live in a world on the other side of that portal?"
Calelle you field of vision has a purple hue once you cast your spell. Two blind of magical presence catch your eye on Xavier.
Something poking out of his breast pocket - Conjuration magic
His boots shine as well - Transmutation
aside from the two items there is another glow, seems to be radiating from his body. It’s not a magical glow you have seen before with this spell. You the notice the same glow but stronger coming from the portal. Probably residual from coming through it.
He remains calm and doesn’t resist any.
Quinton still shocked at the man’s knowledge says “Your damn right it will be, take him to his cell.”
"If you wouldn't mind sir we will now take you to the cell you already know about some how and then work on figuring some things out." and Flux gestures for the man to start walking hopefully of his own free will.
Xavier nods his head “Of course, I am interested though. You’ve already killed something that came out of the portal. What was it?” He says as he leads the party away nonchalantly
"That is a rather good question though I can't answer because I have absolutely no idea what is was. A tall beast, with crazy appendages that were like double jointed and he had super long claws and could inflate and deflate itself to change it size considerably. It was a first for me." and Flux will continue to walk beside the man and Marley
As you bring Xavier to the “cell”. Just a regular room with a door. No window and no way to keep an eye with the door closed. “Ah! You’ve encountered a Voggdax. Nasty creatures, you should see them when they’re fully grown.” Xavier finds a corner to slump down the wall and sit “it’s been pleasure talking to you all again. Just be ready to leave in the morning, there is work to be done.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Andris trails behind with his hand on his sword. He didn't exactly trust this man, creature, thing that came out of the portal. For all he knew, it was some sort of shape shifting demon. Maybe sound traveled through the portal and a crafty demon sat at the other end just listening until it had enough information to trick them all. Andris would not be fooled. He kept his eyes on the man trying to size up the creatures true intentions.
"Voggdax huh, I sure won't forget that and I sure hope I don't encounter a full sized one anytime soon." Flux definitely takes notice to Xavier constantly telling them how he knows them and has spoken to them before "Uh yes, its been a pleasure talking to you as well.. for the first time, ever. Quinton hasn't told us of any mission but if he does we will be ready. You just happen to be looking at the best squad in the area."
Ewan has also been quietly observing. He isn't sure where the portal leads, but most portals have at least two ends - some even more. That was what his circle told him. It would be interesting to hear of something from the other side, once he knew whether this person was able to be trusted.
“And uh how do you know so much about Quinton? And well who are you? What are you — uh— all about?” He says with an upward inflection signaling he’s not even sure what to ask.

"Yes sir!" Marely runs full pelt towards the stranger and attempts to grapple him.

Calelle walks over to the group looking curiously at the man "What is your name stranger?"
(As far as group name what about "Bond of the Portal")
The man doesn’t resist Marley’s grapple, just gives a smirk. “Always so quick to action, don’t lose that step Marley.”
looking over to Flux “An astute observation Flux. Yes you could say that. What station are we at now?”
Replying to Calelle with the same demeanor “Soon enough you’ll recognize me Calelle, I’m Xavier Fornjer”
looking over his shoulder “what do you think Quinton? South building second door on the left would make a good cell?”.
Calelle casts Detect Magic focusing his attention on Xavier
Ewan continues to observe the situation and will hold his action (Thunderwave) for if the subject becomes hostile.
