Perfect, in fact, you have more reason to be suspicious, when you go to slip some rations, the cage is empty

Hmm. Well, damn. Petro shakes the cage back and forth while calling to everyone else: Hey, I told you this wasn't just a stupid rat!

Angorn looks up, What are you talking about? It made some noises early on in the night but other than that it was quiet

Very quiet. The little bugger's disappeared.

Ondrea wanders over to see what's going on.  After assessing the situation she turns to the others, Interesting.  Definitely not a normal rat indeed.  I don't think it was possessed by a spirit.  Does anyone else have any idea what kind of creature it could have been?

(the cage is perfectly intact, and closed, so it didn't break out either) 

”Some of my people are quite adept shapeshifters, it’s entirely possible that that rat was truly a person learned in a similar art. Whatever the truth, it’s gone now. We’ll have to keep an eye out, but we carry on, I should think.”

Petro shrugs and tosses the cage back into the wagon. Oh well. I'm sure nothing bad can come out of this. Not like we've already been attacked by devils or anything. Shall we move on? He hops back up into the wagon and puts his feet back up, and readies himself for the rest of the ride.

Assuming no one has anything to add (and if they do we can jump back) you make it safely for most of the journey. Around half a day before Highwater you start to get a feeling of something wrong... the hairs on the back of your neck rise as if you are being followed, but no one is there when you look.

Petro will stand up and see if he can see any signs of anything: investigation 6

If he does, he'll cast faerie fire in the area.

Ondrea keeps looking around nervously.  Anyone else suddenly got a really bad feeling about this?  Should we take a short break and scout around?

Angorn will also look around trying to figure out what is wrong

Kra-osh, seeing everyone else looking around for something following us, sighs and snaps his fingers, activating his Divine Sense, for the next 12 seconds, he knows the location of all Celestials, Fiends, or Undead within 60 ft that aren't behind full cover. If he senses any, he will point in that direction and say what type is there

Petro sees nothing, current landscape is open plains.

Kra-osh, you sense 5 fiends, 2 behind the caravans, one left, one right and one in front, you just have time to shout out a warning (thereby removing the surprise round) before you sense them moving closer.
