Aleister will brighten up considerably. "Thank you kindly for these few things, I will put them to good use helping to take care of creatures like these," he gestures at the two prisoners. He will take a palm and a three sailing needles, a brace and 5 bits of various sizes (1/8", 1/4", 5/16" combination bits and 3/4" and 1" wood augers) and a tap and die set.
"Anything you folks might be needing from Corvalis? Send it back with your kids if we don't come back this way?"

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
You get to the Provost's office, a kindly looking gentleman in his mid sixties, and he thanks you for rescuing Professor Epps. If you want to talk trade agreements hang around otherwise your guide will take you to the children.
Aleister remarks to one and all, "We'd better see if a place for us al to stay can be arranged, then we know where to meet up. I mean we are going to be here for a bit of time, yes? And each of us has things we wish todo; I, for one, want to talk to the folks in the Physics department."
After accommodations and whatnot are arranged, Aleister will head off to talk shop with the boffins; his dart thrower concept foremost in mind, but, he remembers da Vinci's catapult design and is eager to share that as well. Ooo! the ideas that are swirling through his brain: Evil beware!
Thomas gets settled in, then goes and asks about people’s experience with the new magic, hungry for more spells. He happily demonstrates what he does know for anyone interested.

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
You find Herman who strangely has decided to retire from special forces. He was never happy with all those people and the bossy Mayor was getting on his last nerve. When he hears about the farm he offers to go there. "Peace and quiet without people telling me what to do all the time."
Aleister finds some like minded boffins and I have no idea what they're talking about.
George and Genara find the kids staying with professor Eppes and his wife, Amita and their kids. She was a computer science professor and her latest project in the Changed world is to get a Babbage Analytical Engine built.
Thomas heads to the University Library looking for books on magic rituals in the Mythology section. He finds Mage Armor and Disguise Self plus a plethora of other stuff that will require much more research (you need to be 3rd level or higher to use). As this is an institute of higher learning and as everybody knows magic is not real it takes a lot of convincing before people take you seriously.
Uthvern and Max talk turkey with the Provost and a provisional skills swap program is sketched out plus the Ag School has access to a wide range of seeds for plants that Yachats doesn't have. You can trade things like toilet paper or sports clothing for them.
George is glad to hear Herman will join the growing Homestead, but sorry to see him leave their little band. He's also grateful to find a bit of sanity in Corvallis - even if it's simply insane in a more familiar way.
'At least these folks didn't adopt a mythical Dark Lord as their role model in this Changed world. They're a little nutty about the Faculty and the Professors and all - but it seems well-meaning and functional. I'm thinking we can work with them to help everyone recover. Another days rest and I think we'll be ready to head back to Town and report in on what we've found. Unless anyone has any objections?'
Genera is glad everyone is safe and sound. After the embraces and all, she offers to assist Amita in her project while they are in Corvallis (if she can be of any assistance. )
OCC Yes; the spring is rated at ~400lb pull, with the doubled cocking rope it is reduced to ~150lb (which is perfectly manageable); this gives the dart a 1780N push for .02 sec and an initial velocity of 1000 fps and an impact of ~475 lbs/in^2 at 100 yds. One would not wish to be on the receiving end of one of those. I am presently working on an updated version that uses a magazine, probably 6-8 rounds; as well as incendiary/smoke rounds. That's the sort of things Aleister is chatting with the boffins about. Huge grin!
Look Ma! No gunpowder!

Amita is happy to have your company as she works on the project. Lots of talking to people about how the parts would be made.

Now comes the real question, where are you going to get a spring like that? And wherever that is make sure to snap up a lot of them because no one is making any of those again any time soon.
You spend the night in real beds in the student dormitories and in the morning are preparing for your return to Yachats. Herman, the parents and the kids are preparing to return to the farm. Suddenly there is a loud bell tolling and noncoms moving through the cafeteria shouting "To arms! Form in squads at your rally points. Full gear. This is not a drill!"

Genera follows the group, excited to see the kids again.

Uthvern will stay and discuss the trade agreements.

George sticks with Genara and the parents to check in on the kids and Herman (who I assume falls in love with a coed and stays in Corvallis ;)

Uthvern converses with Max and decides to trade what they brought as trade supplies for a multitude of seeds and the like.

OCC Les, did you get the drawings I sent to your email - dart thrower?
Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Ooc, so I'm not good with that stuff but is that a spring propulsion system? If so it's nice

Uthvern suits up, grabbing his katana and shield before following the others to the entrance.
Genera grabs her gear and sprints out of her room to find Uthvern. She instructs the kids to stay back and follows him to the entrance.
