OOC - We just encountered a devil. Ya think wandering minstrels would survive more than a day out here? :D
There are bandits and it can be dangerous to travel but its not as bad as the early days of the Change. Wandering minstrels are a real thing and in this case I'd say that not one in twenty Oregonians under 40 wouldn't know who The Decemberists are.
"What the heck!" Aleister expostulates. He steps forward and greets the troupe, "Hale and well met, pluckers and thumpers, any news of the road?"
Perception 18 What can he discern about these folks?
He spreads his arms wide, showing no weapons, "T'isn't it grand t' be alive on a foin day like this!"
They're cautious but welcome you. They are travelling from Portland to Boise singing for their supper as they go. After that they'll head back west to Eugene and start the circle again.
Matthias steps out and stands a little behind Aleister.
"Ah well, take care now, there's some band of Cultists around here we've heard mention of, trying to spread their Word. 'bout to put an end to that kind of nonsense, right Jefe?" Em says as he places his hand on his sword's hilt, turning to look at Aleister. He scratches at his neck, looking undisciplined as he does so, giving the troupe a passing look at all the tattoos he has under his chain shirt.

They are interested in your tats and your PPA livery. There's a smile at George's admonishment. "The world has changed a lot hasn't it. Cultists?" Once they hear CUT they seem worried for the first time "We've heard of them; crazy! The think everything is evil, even my accordion"
With her 'disguise', Sarah keeps silent as she finally moves forward with the others. The helm may keep her face and hair covered but it doesn't change her voice.
OOC: If you need a roll for either deception or stealth, just say.
Thomas remains invisible for the duration of the encounter, still wary. Once they were out of sight, he says "It's still suspicious. Hope they survive their travels. "

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
OoC: I'm not sure having them come with us would be a good play -- the longer they're around the faster our facade breaks, especially since they know the Lord Protector
"Ye'll no be wantin' t' journey w'us," Aleister says portentously. "The PPA 'as deemed it necessary t' censure these fanatics, I be thinkin' ye pr'haps be puttin' yerselves in danger near us, be a bit o' wet work we be doin' I'm thinkin'. Doubt the folk we be talkin' to soon 'll be too agreeable. Ye'd best be headin' t' the west out o' danger."
He hefts his long sword.
"I wish ye safe journey."

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
After they decipher that heavily accented sentence they agree to change their route to stay out of trouble.
DM Note A bunch of wandering minstrels will spread the story of the PPA punishing the evil CUT. Who said that social media died with The Change
The next two days of travel are without indecent. Along the way you pick up news of the missionaries and head for Grangeville, their last know position. How do you want to handle this?
Sending Gamliel aloft for a high scout, Thomas uses him to locate the offending missionaries to see if they are still in town.

The Seeker is in the town square talking to the citizens. There are 4 or 5 CUT trooper standing around watching the show. The other couple you where told about are not to be seen.
Thomas reports back to the others with all the details. "Do we want to disrupt their sermon on the mount, and have a nice, focused audience? Seems like a good opportunity." While the group gets ready to start the floor show, Thomas casts LongStrider on everyone and their horses.
OOC - what time of day and weather are we operating with?

Sarah will prep a minor illusion to fake a male voice. An attempted 'arrest' for heresy and upsetting the Lord Protector's interests should provoke an interesting confrontation.

George sighs and speaks up 'It's Sir George now, remember. We don't use that street slang since the Lord Protector took over.'

Em looks warily at George. "Right...sir." He waits to see what the rest of the (our) group does.

Sarah keeps a watch out for anything untoward and does her best to gauge the motives and honesty of the travelers.

"If the crazy CUT people are up ahead could we travel with you till we pass them. We know The Protector, he was a fan before the Change."

George studies the group carefully Hunters Mark
OoC: I am down with this plan.
Em unsheathes his blade and rides with the group with sword in one hand. He will keep about 5ft behind Sarah and a little to the side.
