Thomas is up for hunting and figuring up what ever is going on, although he's reluctant to assume the missing people are dead yet.

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Okay. "Well it seems we were followed by a man made demon/cannibal from ToC; not exactly sure how but, it seems to be eating farm fresh food, including the farmers." He talks to everyone to see if they want to go investigate and solve the problem. He will show all the sword-swingers his new flame-paste (+1d4 dmg, 3 rds - that seem right?) as well as the sling bombs (range of about 60' or so, depending upon windage and launch/target height differential).
OCC Is Sharpen approved for use?
Yes and yes
These sling bombs; if they where the weight of a cricket ball Em could throw them. Not hit though, the fuse needed to make that work sounds way to complicated.

No matter how many times Sarah smells it, the scent of blood makes her stomach turn. Trying to ignore her nausea, she instead sharpens her senses, trying to make sure nothing gets the drop on them.
"Well, I would think Flame-paste would work on anything you can apply it to," Aleister says to Matthias. "A suggestion about my various bombs; singly they don't do much but, if everyone tossed one at the same time the effect will be multiplied and actually might do a bit of good. It would be similar in nature to the way the Romans used their pilums, charge the foe and when in range shower them with 'nasty, pointy teeth'; or, conversely, wait as they charge us until they get within range and then shower them with 'nasty, pointy teeth', which in our case will be nasty, splattering flame and itchies." He grins brightly, "Maybe it'll work better this time!" He gets a contemplative looks, "I wonder if I could mix the two effects into one so that the receiver gets 'Two, two gifts in one'," and he chuckles in a malicious fashion.

Your sharp senses perceive that the residents of the farm are gone but this does not seem to be a bandit raid. There are many items of value still lying around - food, clothing, tools, weapons

Em checks to see if it seems like the residents were going to come back or if it was more of a sudden mass exodus. "Odd, no one around?" Em says to no one in particular.

Aleister, too, will apply his skills in looking around for any sign of what happened; tracks, disturbed patches of ground, drag marks, as well as anything else that would seem odd under the circumstances.

"Well gobbletyblarthy! Will you look at that." He says in a rather disgusted tone.
"Which reminds me," he stops abruptly and turns to Sarah. "What was that about your sword being a window into the past, uh, into the world of unfinished business I think you said; that and something about a creepy thing your grandpa wrote about in his Guatemala journal?"

Your investigation is weak but find interesting tracks. A bear, five or six people. One of whom seems to be wearing only one shoe. There is a patch of ground where you think someone has died. No blood but some throw up and bowels releasing upon death.

The DM hasn’t forgotten that thread. It just won’t be resolved until you get another few levels.
Thomas looks around with the others, offering what little he can from his own experience. "I'm not sure what happened here, but this doesn't look like a typical pillage and the rest."

"Granny and I can't make heads nor tails of it," Sarah admits to Aleister. "Maybe one day."
Looking over the evidence the others have found, she wonders how the 'bear' managed to get so many people to follow it. Magic? Hypnosis? Ha! Who is she kidding. These days it was almost always magic.
"Looks like this things has some way of keeping people compliant. Maybe like my charm spell. Creepy. Keep on your toes, everyone."
"Seems there were five or six people and a bear, a circus troupe? Running around the country with a dancing bear? I'd say that was a bit odd." Aleister scrunches up his face and concentrates on the bear tracks. Do the human track imprint over the bear tracks at any time? What about the other way around? Like the humans following the bear or the reverse. Are they all going the same direction; bunched up or strung out a bit; just kinda wandering hither and yon? He will then try and figure out how many individual groupings of 'death' sign there are. Is all the bile and feces in on place or are there multiple locations and are they all human? Can he find the other shoe?
"Where the hell is Sherlock when you need him!" he mumbles more to himself than anyone in particular.
OCC Fusing - a wee bit o' the Flame-paste, a spark and heave; when the pot breaks - voila! Should be workable.

'Well, there's nothing to it but to follow these strange tracks. A bear and a one shoed man make unusual traveling companions.'

You have no problems reading the tracks. The bear and six people came in and left but when leaving their tracks are deeper showing that they are carrying heavy weights. Say two adults and 3 children... and a horse. There was tack in the barn plus manure that showed there was a horse here when it happened. Whatever it was.

Sometimes bear over men tracks and sometimes the opposite. You're sure the farmers are all dead.
"Maybe a shapeshifter? Beorning from the Tolkein stories would shape shift into a bear at times. Perhaps that's what we are looking for."
