"Quick and quiet, alright" perks quietly says with a smile. Remembering her previous run in with these things, "Stirges, those little suckers. You are going down." Perkas will move when she can to where she can see them, avoiding the crest on the floor, and fire off a few shots.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Nice job" Penumbra says strolling casually into the room while munching on some dried meat from her rations. "What's the deal with this crest? You think there is some magic at work here?" She inquires while making sure not to step to close. Moving over to the south side of the room she inspects the door to see of it is locked or trapped.
"I knew there was a reason I bring you two around!" Wakka jested quietly as he stepped forward into the room. Noting the large crest on the ground and Perkas' earlier warning, he stepped forward a bit closer to it to get a better look.
Investigation/ Arcana (they're the same score) - 18
‘I don’t know about magic, I was more thinking it was a good place to hide a trap...’ says Manfred quietly as he recovers and cleans his dagger. He then takes a moment to look around..
Perhaps gives manny a curt nod and a smile for their quick work of the stirges.
Perkas will take a closer look at the dead soldiers and weapons lying around see if there is anything worth it in the debris. She will recover her arrows from the fallen stories.
(Sorry - didn't realize you had posted and were waiting on me!!)
The party moves into the room, investigating the emblem on the floor, the skeletons (which, luckily, do not rise from the floor and attack you!) and the room in general. The gear is worthless, the door to the south is closed but not locked or trapped, and there are two secret doors in the eastern and western walls! The one to the east opens to the passages along the outer wall, allowing defenders of the fortress access to the arrow slits you saw. The secret door to the west opens to a stone staircase leading down into the mountain...
"Ho ho! Well this is certainly interesting!" Wakka commented as the two secret door were discovered. Carefully opening the door to the outer wall, Wakka carefully ventured out onto it to see where it might lead or if there was any useful information/ items he could gather.
Wakka moves through the eastern secret door into the outer defense area. These passages are cold, empty halls hidden behind secret doors with arrow slits along the outer walls. There are no skeletons nor signs that a fight took place in here. He heads north and peeks around the corner, looking west. He sees a door and decides to check behind that as well, ony to find more defensive passages and another door. (Are you heading back to the party after this two minute excursion, or do you intend to go further on your own? Map updated.)
Knowing there's a dragon nearby, Wakka will limit his curiosity for the time being to what he just explored and return to the others to share what he'd just seen.
"So folks, how do you think it's best to proceed?" Wakka will ask the group afterwards.
If you decide to go through the western secret door and down the steps:
The west secret door pulls open to reveal a 3-foot-wide staircase descending 10 feet to an empty, deathly cold 15' x 15' square room with a door in the east, south, and west walls. Chiseled into the lintel above each door is the word “CRYPTS” in Common.
(Hope everyone had a good weekend. I'm just getting home)
Perkas isn't sure which way to go. But thinks to herself and the goal "we could try and go and explore further, but if that dragon wakes up, we may muck our chance for it to listen to us if it doesn't like us sneaking around." She shrugs. "I'm saying that I don't mind sticking A few arrows in it's hide regardless, but I will follow your lead."
"Let's at least wait to loot this place until after we talk to the dragon, I can't imagine it will want to talk to us if we are looting treasure from it's lair."Penumbra says while stuffing her hands securely into pockets where they can't accidently pick up any valuables.
"Lead the way, I've got your back." She says to the group in general.
"That's all well and good, but I haven't the foggiest how to get to the dragon. I'm guessing its through the door (ooc: the only non secret door) but I'm no architect and who knows with a place like this." Wakka added rather unhelpfully.
Can Perkas go between all the doors And see if she might be able to catch a scent or something of the dragon? Maybe look for any signs or know from previous knowledge where a dragon might rest? {I thought I remembered that the dragon was perched on top of the keep for some reason....things might be bleeding over from podcasts I'm listening to.}
With no clear way forward Perkas starts poking her nose in the doors giving a sniff, wiping her finger on the ground and giving it a lick. "Give me a minute, I might be able to get an idea"
Yes, you know that the dragon is sleeping on top of the fortress. You also can determine that the 3' wide stairway down is too narrow for a dragon to fit through. As for ways to go, that's what the map is for =) But in text, you have the following choices:
A door leading south from the main room.
North of the main room, through the eastern secret door, is a set of passages (and a closed door leading west) between the outer wall and the main room.
On the western side of the small stairway leading down to the crypt is another secret door.
There is also a large fireplace on the northern side of the main room that perhaps the halflings could crawl up.
After her investigating she turns to the group with a hand on her hip. "The dragon is on the top of the fortress, if that is what we are trying to do first, might be a good to start outside and/or up. I think that the halls with the arrow slits would probably lead to a roof access of sorts. Although there is the chimney... That would definitely lead up and out."
"Climbing the chimney could prove dangerous. I'd prefer to just go back outside and fly up there myself but not all of us can fly, so let's go see what's down that hallway."Penumbra says moving towards the hallway with arrow slits.
Penumbra leads the rest of the group back through the defensive passages, north and then west, going through the doors Wakka saw before coming to the back side of another secret door facing west. Based on what you have seen so far, this door likely opens into another room. You estimate that you passed by the large room you were in and are getting closer to the back side of the fortress.
